"We express our strong dissatisfaction and resolute opposition to this report," Chinese Defense Ministry spokesperson Wu Qian said in a statement

Truth hurts.

"exaggerates and hypes the non-existent 'Chinese military threat'".

...that is right there in front of us right now, and growing. Just ask Taiwan, the Philippines, India, Vietnam, Japan, Indonesia etc. etc. etc.

Wu said the development of China's armed forces is aimed at containing the threat of war, safeguarding its own security and safeguarding world peace, and is not aimed at any specific country or target.

Should read: "aimed at threatening war on anyone and everyone in the region, stealing other countries' territory and threatening world peace, and is aimed at any country that says nasty things about our brutal totalitarian state. Or that posts pictures of Winnie the Pooh."

Well, BLAST them, then....seems appropriate

It’s a hard truth but the truth nonetheless.

China seeks through military hegemony what it cannot attain through its failed political/mercantile model.

The good news is that basically the entire East Asian region has awoken to the threat.

China can blast all they want, but that doesn't change the fact that the entire region is watching it's territorial claims and militarization of the South China Sea and sees China as a threat. If China doesn't like it all they have to do is change their behavior and become a constructive member of the international community.

Calling the military-to-military relationship an important part of Sino-U.S. relations, the Defense Ministry's Wu said, "we maintain frank and effective communication with the United States through military diplomacy".

But not the hotline which is the most important communication.

China's continual lies means that whatever it says is untrue. So the opposite is more likely the true situation.

Actions speak louder than words, especially with the CCP. The CCP govt is so used to lying, they don't know the truth anymore.

It is aimed at democracy in general and the individual rights of everyone on earth. Certainly not any specific country. Just everyone in general.

Sure, they are building up their nuclear capability/military capability. Blar blar blar!!! Threatening everyone. But, who knows what will happen in the future???? All i know is, the pass/historically, what who has done. And i know who is the actual/real thread, over the propaganda.

US reaction is to provoke othes to continue their own production of nuclear weapons that too by the Multinational corporations' lobby. They suck on American public money and give it to the these ammunition making corporations and then use it for creating terrorism & faking to control it exercises. Thus WTO and their ammunition lobby's business keeps up their boom. Public is kept in lull by religious stuff and life problems duly created by their long term plans.

China has over 500 warheads, the U.S. has over 5,000, and yet China is the threat?!

Although republicans have gone over the line to justify starting wars in the past. China/Russia

etc are the only countries actively trying to start wars just to expand their own borders.

China has over 500 warheads, the U.S. has over 5,000, and yet China is the threat?!

Yes. Because unlike China, the U.S. is not threatening another country with invasion if they do not agree to be part of it. Nor are they laying claim to a vast sea based on ridiculous claims. The U.S. is not acting in a mannr that could destabilize an entire region. China is the threat. The entire world agrees.

China has over 500 warheads, the U.S. has over 5,000, and yet China is the threat?!

Yes, because China is on the upswing and was historically not held to the same standard as the US and Russia.

Why do people lie when the proof is so easy to get?

The US has 3,750 nuclear warheads in its stockpile and 2,000 are waiting to be dismantled, according to a release from the State Department, which emphasized the importance of transparency.

ref: https://www.cnn.com/2021/10/06/politics/us-nuclear-weapons-stockpile/index.html

Just shows how weak an argument truly is. Further, the target for each warhead can't be changed drastically. They were designed with a specific county and the fuel load reflects that. For example, the US has 450 ICBMs and all of them are aimed at Russia, not China.

Additionally, https://www.defensenews.com/congress/2022/12/07/china-may-have-surpassed-us-in-number-of-nuclear-warheads-on-icbms/ says that China might have more nuclear warheads on ICBM platforms. That's unknowable, but something to be considered given the CCP's history of lying.

The next US ICMB upgrades are due in less than 10 years. At that point, I expect dynamic targeting to be possible, within reason.

OssanAmerica,

“Yes. Because unlike China, the U.S. is not threatening another country with invasion if they do not agree to be part of it. …”

No, US has invaded so many countries and killed other countries’ leaders with impunity. The US doesn’t just claim, they absorbed and plundered. They don’t just destabilize a region, they created crisis for the whole world. Claiming to fight for democracy but in itself a fake democracy; dramatized politics and monetized liberalism. At least China does not interfere in other countries internal affairs nor export its ideology. More and more countries are leaning towards China.

@theFu

"The US has 3,750 nuclear warheads in its stockpile and 2,000 are waiting to be dismantled"

As I said, the US has 3,750 + 2,000 = 5,750 warheads in its stockpile which is over 5,000. Don't they teach math where you come from?

Once (if) they have dismantled the 2,000 then they will 'only' have 3,750, which is still a lot more than 500.

@Taiwanisnotchina

What standards has the US been held to? 'Might is right?' It is called American exceptionalism because America refuses to be held to any international standards.

-1 ( +0 / -1 )

China has MIRVs just like the US did pre-2017. 400 ICMBs doesn't equal 400 warheads. Assuming their MIRVs have 12 per ICMB, that would be 4800 warheads. The US removed the MIRV capability. 1 ICBM = 1 warhead. https://blog.ucsusa.org/emacdonald/the-end-of-mirvs-for-u-s-icbms/

I read

"The US has 3,750 nuclear warheads in its stockpile and 2,000 are waiting to be dismantled" as 3,750 - 2000 = 1750 .

I suppose we are both showing our bias.

According to another source, 1750 is the correct number of deployed nuclear weapons. https://www.ucsusa.org/resources/us-nuclear-arsenal
