China's Wuhan to test all residents as COVID returns

Authorities announced on Monday that seven locally transmitted infections had been found among migrant workers in the city, breaking a year-long streak without domestic cases after it squashed an initial outbreak with an unprecedented lockdown in early 2020.

But thanks for deliberately allowing the international travel that made this virus into the pandemic we're all suffering through.

Did you miss the part where the region was local case free for a year?

No need, there are plenty of foreigners in the region that would have reported these kind of obvious measures even if the government tried to hide frequent outbreaks.

There is zero difficulty to believe an autocratic government could control the pandemic, the kind of measures that are more effective to interrupt transmission are the ones that a government without any kind of regard for civil liberties can do instantaneously.

It would be a kind gesture for China to donate some of those tests to Japan.

Only for them to get lost in some incompetent bureaucratic bottleneck.

More evidence that masking and lockdowns are not the panacea that our various governments seem to think?

Did you miss the part where the region was local case free for a year? that is the expected result of the measures, which mean they worked as intended. Nobody ever said preventing the spread of the disease would work forever and that no new outbreaks would happen from imported cases.

Temporary measures are used to protect the population until permanent ones are available, such as vaccination and better treatments, once the risk from COVID is on par with other respiratory infections it becomes unnecessary to have extra measures against it.

Maybe another "escape" from their Laboratory in Wuhan.

Wuhan's chickens come home...Let's hope the Chinese do a better job this time. A million-fold Chinese pandemic might open a Pandora's box of pathogens sending a catastrophic Covid tsunami around the world.

But surely testing does not work!

If it did, then Japan would be making testing available to their population, surely! (No?)

More evidence that masking and lockdowns are not the panacea that our various governments seem to think? That the virus is endemic and we will need to learn to live with it? that we can't carry on with draconian and authoritarian responses and hope to "best the virus"?

The correct way to respond to Coronavirus whether people like China or not. Any negative comments or downvoting is simply bitterness that Japan couldn't do such things.
