A bold move. I agree Xi will play it safe and watch from home.

That was wise of Xi. Send Trump Hannibal Lecter and Marjorie Taylor Greene. Let Giuliani attend in his new orange suit.
Zaphod
Considering that Trump has already survived 3 assassination attempts, I can see that Winnie Poo has a point. Looking at the stellar performance by the DEI American secret service ("we can not go on that roof, it is tilted" etc) does not help to convince him either.
Ricky Kaminski13
Zero surprises there.

Xi should do the unexpected and send the leader of Taiwan to represent China.
bass4funk
Naw, Trump knows Xi will probably decline the invitation, but still funny to rub its in his face. Lol
Zaphod

LOL, I would actually love that. That would be an interesting chess move on many levels.
TaiwanIsNotChina
It is risky for him to leave the country and let the PLA do something stupid like attack Taiwan.
TaiwanIsNotChina
Lai might come away with a mutual defense treaty. Also risky for Xi.
NCIS Reruns
Between the jet lag and American fast food that Trump serves his guests, Xi might very kick the bucket.
stormcrow
That would be for the best.
Did Trump send an invitation to Zelensky? Now that would send a message.

Since the US officially applies the "one China policy" that would mean a mutual defense treaty with Peking. As I said, an interesting chess move...
Zaphod
stormcrow
Why not? Zelensky can take the opportunity and check out his new villa in Florida, to which he will retreat with his millions once he is replaced.
TaiwanIsNotChina
A simple google search reveals this is Serbian nonsense.
Another easy rebuttal: the US only acknowledges that Chinese claim there is one China.

Just wait and see. Does shell company ring a bell?
Weasel words. Show us a Taiwanese embassy in the US then.

A preposterous stunt, what logic or possible benefit can be achieved from attempting to ridicule belittling Xi Jinping with childish political trickery.
Donald Trump needs to focus his full attention to the task, the promises the Trump campaign pledged day after day.
Inviting a genocidal maniac, human rights abusing dictator is nonsensical.

It is a very big insult to sit next to the world most hated and depised person like Donald Trump. He is a criminal and under conviction, I don't think Xi feels interested to get along with Trump any anymore. Does anyone remember how tense and heated while Angela Merkel confronted with Donald Trump sitting in G20? She is right at that time, Trump does not deserve any respect as a political leader !
itsonlyrocknroll
It is wise to separate the volatile personal political/diplomatic relationship between Donald Trump, Angela Merkel, Xi Jinping.
I am reading Angela Merkel memoir, Dad's birthday present,
Merkel eviscerates ‘emotional’ Trump in upcoming memoir
The former German chancellor painted a scathing picture of the president-elect — and hinted at a playbook for dealing with him.

Germany is still having to regret deal with Angela Merkel political and economic failures to this day.
Macron is wandering around in a state of a continuous nervous breakdown both politically economically.
Starmer is in a state of denial.
It is also a fact that a lot of political milk has flowed under the bridge since March 2017 meetings.
This Trump 2nd Presidency has the full backing of the US electorate, both houses, the popular vote, a powerful mandate, some have suggested without the past checks and balances.
The prospect of tariffs incoming displayed like a badge of honour.

So Trump inviting Xi when he good and well knows Xi can’t/wont come was actually a masterful power play,
poor leftists, outplayed again.

Both Donald Trump and Chinese leader Xi Jinping are undoubtedly in the global political ascendancy.
Xi Jinping economy in a number of respects suffering downturns, the debt, an industrial policy will need continued costly stimulus efforts.
Donald Trump could deliver potential tariffs, trade embargoes that would have disastrous consequences to China growth.
WoodyLee
Would have Trump traveled to China for the Inauguration of a chines president if there is such a thing,???
itsonlyrocknroll
WoodyLee,
Undoubtedly yes, sporting his trademark oversized red MAGA headgear.
itsonlyrocknroll
Much to the horror of Trumps Chinese hosts he would probably absolutely insist delivering a speech to honour the occasion, invitation.
HopeSpringsEternal
Pure Media Speculation, as if Xi contacts the media to inform them of his travel agenda in advance.
It would be a great gesture if Xi did attend, the real message it would send is "Let's turn the page on insanely stupid geopolitical games and focus on economic prosperity for all. " Trump's VIEW as Well!
Equals - Scumbag War Monger Globalists NOT Needed!
HopeSpringsEternal
Real surprise in the next Trump Admin will be a gradual thawing of China relations, serious Chinese investment into the US to avoid tariffs, China pressure on Russia to wind down their Ukraine Security Operation etc.
HopeSpringsEternal
Plus, Trump very keen on getting Xi's help in convincing Iran not to pursue nuclear weapons!
HopeSpringsEternal
My prediction, Trump and Xi set to achieve a historical partnership in order to restore sanity to the world order, due to the unhinged Biden Admin's unelected globalists.

left and right is being confused.
maga critters are the leftists, forcing government edicts from washington on ‘we the people.’
how to live, how to love, how to religion, how to control children by banning books, how to control information using only party-approved media.
no different than communists, the facade of x corrupt leaders instead of y corrupt leaders. state control of the economy, sing the praises of the party and getting richer (comrade musk) with government money.
idolizing dear leader in cult fashion. kiss the ring, rationalize every flaw, ignore the hypocrisy, dear leader is always right.
and the hallmark of lovely governments like the old soviet union, nazi germany, fascist italy, north korea, iran, china, syria until recently, islamic radicals - lie, lie and lie.
the caviar lifestyle of lavish dinners for the party leaders and the oligarchs who keep each other in power, while telling the peons to get in line with the party because they’re doing it all for you.
Some dude
Xi doesn't come:
MAGA: "masterful gambit, sir"
Xi does come:
MAGA: "masterful gambit, sir".
bass4funk
Wrong, because we don't believe in the same political ideology
Spoken like a true Marxist.
Typical of the radical left.
The left did so when Obama is President, so why was that acceptable??
Libs love the umbrella of globalism
Like Gavin Newsom and Gretchen Witmore?

Everything Israel/USA has done over the past 2 years suggests that Iran will now do everything in its power to get a few nukes.
robert maes
One of his most stupid decisions. Anyone knowing Trump a little will know he takes this as a personal insult and he will go even stronger after China. Real stupid from Xi
TaiwanIsNotChina
Merely an economic convenience. In the event of war, the US can change on a dime again and it would still be legitimate. The PRC knew the US was going to continue sending arms to Taiwan when they normalized relations as well.
TaiwanIsNotChina
Scumbag war mongers can stop threatening Free Taiwan then.
deanzaZZR
This is factually incorrect.

That says nothing about arms being prohibited. The Taiwan Relations Act was introduced to the House on February 28, 1979 and while embassies were established the next day, surely there was plenty of foreknowledge for the PRC to reverse course.

Please squeeze billion dollar weapons sales into the words cultural, commercial and other unofficial relations.
White man speaks with forked tongue confirmed once again.
TaiwanIsNotChina
"unofficial relations", boom
Forked tongue would be forcing virtually every country in the world and the UN to abandon Taiwan.
