“This is a blatant effort at the pursuit of an Asian hegemony by China,” wrote Rajeswari Pillai Rajagopalan of the Observer Research Foundation, an Indian think tank, in The Diplomat. It is “designed to promote China’s interests in its great power competition with the United States.”

It’s interesting to note that ORF, the Indian think tank which makes this statement also employs Dhruv Jaishankar, the son of the Indian foreign minister Subramaniam Jaishankar from his Japanese wife.

And yet Modi is heading to the SCO. This means that Modi just wants a better deal from the US to align against China.

Xi, 69

laughed a bit at this. Like his robot name and number.

The US really is letting the world leadership role pass to these awful people.

Its funny how some people think that being the head of the second strongest army in Ukraine makes you some kind of player at the international level.

Not only armies make you strong. control over energy? Manufacturing most of what Americans consume? Strategic minerals? Having the support of the governments who lead the majority of the world's population?

I don't like either of these thugs, but poor leadership and decision making in "the West" has made them much more powerful than they were just a year ago......

Xi and Putin are scarily the two most powerful and consequential world leaders due the lack of usual USA leadership.

lf you claim they aren’t, then name the two who are so that people can likely laugh at you.

you don’t have to like or agree with something for it to be true anyway.

-7 ( +6 / -13 )

If they were both peaceful superpowers discussing how to better the planet, then that would be fine, but they’re not. They are two bullies who threaten to invade and conquer their peaceful neighbors for no other reason than to enrich themselves. Their greed and selfishness is a genuine concern for all.

6 ( +9 / -3 )

Hate to say it, but they and their sidekicks are certainly getting more powerful with each passing year. The US really needs to shake up its ideas if it wants to stay top dog.

“zero COVID” strategy emphasizes the importance to the ruling Communist Party of asserting China's role as a regional leader.

To me it sounds like Xi and the CCP do not want their subjects to travel outside areas controlled by the Xi regime, where their subjects might learn about how individuals in other cultures live; and the CCP might fear some of their subjects that travel outside the realms controlled by the CCP might be exposed to information about how CCP leaders are viewed abroad. And they might read media in which individuals are able to criticize their government without fear of being punished or jailed. Dictators like Xi and his buddies Putin and Kim know they cannot allow their subjects to have even a few bits of freedom, so they constantly keep their boots on their subjects throats.

Desperate times call for desperate measures, I guess...

5 ( +7 / -2 )

Well, Tziny Putin looks vers short next to fellow short man dictator Xi. Angry small men should never taste power.

5 ( +7 / -2 )

The two most powerful men in the world..

That could well be, and many leaders of the globe's fossil economy helped make them so. As did western politicians that have used their platforms to divide people in their nations, knowing nations divided are weaker, Putin and Xi have both used their troll farms to help western politicians that want to weaken their countries, as have some western media outlets.

4 ( +5 / -1 )

Xi and Putin fanboyism - it's now a core value of MAGA-world. Remember who called them "fierce and smart"....

One is losing a war of his choice very badly and the other is facing a population pushing back against two and a half years of COVID lockdowns...

"Powerful and consequential"? Only to those who worship dictators and tyrants...

I imagine both are wearing Chinese-made Trump Collection ties...

I don’t dispute that Xi is one of the most powerful, but its laughable to say that Putin is in the same league as him.

China is a superpower that has emerged as a rival to the US on the world stage. No argument there.

Russia in contrast just has oil and its military. And of those two, it can only sell its oil at a discount to China and India because the West won’t touch it, and its conventional military is not fooling anybody anymore. Until February 23 Putin could at least lay claim to being the head of a mid level regional power, but now he is the head of a vastly weakened country that he has driven into the ground.

4 ( +6 / -2 )

PT

Yes, a bit of trolling is enough to bring down democracy.

Way more than silencing and arresting one's political opponents, for example.

Thinking that these 2 thugs are getting more powerful is not the same as worshipping them. And accepting that some of the recent measures taken by the West have been pretty dumb is not the same as taking Purtin's side.

-7 ( +1 / -8 )

Both have reached a turning point and are now losing support. The war is disaster for Putin and he'll be lucky if he's not poisoned or overthrown soon. Xi's zero-Covid policy is having the same effect and the Chinese people are growing fed up. Hi legitimacy is based on economic growth which has stopped. Hence he the need to stand tall on the international stage.

6 ( +7 / -1 )

Russia could use some real help here, without China they will lose this war. Because Russia alone cannot field an army big enough to defeat Ukraine, they need food rations, clothings, machineries, electronic components... on a scale that only China could meet the demands

“China and Russia share the same stance in opposing the Western practice of imposing sanctions and overthrowing regimes of other countries,

JT delving into outright comedy printing things like this. Russia attempting to take over Ukraine while China continues planning the overthrowing of Taipei by invading Taiwan.

No sanctions, just outright invasion. Thats the Russian and Chinese method of choice to force change of governments they do not like. Both nations are a disgrace and it shows it only takes a couple of individuals in power to throw the whole world into deadly turmoil.

WWIII is coming thanks to Russia and China. Mark my words.

“oppose the building of national security on the basis of insecurity in other countries.”

Yes, I can see why the world record holder for 'regime changing' democratically elected governments hates the group.

PS, while Iran is still technically an SCO observer state, it's full membership is only a signing ceremony away.

And to think only a few years ago many here (and elsewhere in Japan) where complaining about too many Chinese tourists in Japan.

To me it sounds like Xi and the CCP do not want their subjects to travel outside areas controlled by the Xi regime, where their subjects might learn about how individuals in other cultures live

oh wow imagine that, you took yet another opportunity to just ramble about Trump and neckties instead.

While ignoring if not Xi and Putin the 2 strongest leaders in the world- then who?

-6 ( +2 / -8 )

Let's hope there's a suitable welcoming committee for when this evil duo arrive in Uzbekistan - preferably the officials from the International Criminal Court in The Hague, assisted by Interpol. This pair should not be free to walk the streets, let alone stride the International political stage; they are personally responsible for the deaths of hundreds of thousands of people, and the sooner our Leaders of the Free World wake up to this stark fact, and stop treating them like important statesmen, the better.

Putin looks dead behind the eyes, and Xi as slippery as a rattlesnake - I can not wait for their demise, the celebrations will be held the world over.

2 ( +3 / -1 )

all these insults.

but no one credibly denying the facts that they are the 2 strongest and most powerful leaders in the world.

feelings arent facts, sadly.

-7 ( +2 / -9 )

Yeah... I'm a happy American living with my Japanese wife in Japan... but I'll tell you, there is no way I would want to move to either China or Russia. You can call them powerful countries but to me... Russia is a thug nation and China, while not a bad country, is scary. Things could change for foreigners in a second with zero ability to do anything about it. The USA is pretty much a screwed up bag of mixed races with the white majority dwindling daily. It is transition time in the USA... hopefully they get through it but I'd rather be in the USA, Europe or other West aligning countries than this SCO alliance. You can call them powerful... but I don't see people banging on their doors to enter and become one of them.

4 ( +5 / -1 )

Blacklabel:

These comments are not insults - they are cast-iron facts.

Both Putin and Xi are dictators, they are responsible for killing innocent people, today and everyday. They are fake leaders, and hopefully can be eliminated. They care absolutely zero about the sanctity of a human life.

You should read widely about what goes on every day in both Russia and China, life is cheap there, torture is the norm.

For Putin the storm clouds are finally gathering, and the paper-structure of China's economy is about to fall, so both of these could be gone in a heartbeat with any luck.

6 ( +7 / -1 )

The lack of response may mean nobody here cares if you have this opinion.

Anyone else find it weird the way the far right in the US has gradually come to the point that they now fetishize the strength and virility of communist dictators?

4 ( +4 / -0 )

its reality. and its sad.

due to the inability of the USA to take their traditional leadership role. as the people in charge there now cant even lead themselves from a podium to off the stage to where they supposed to go next.

no one is fetishizing anything.

if not them- who? that question still looking for a legitimate answer.

none has been provided or even proposed.

oh wait its not that there is anyone else, its just that suddenly "nobody cares"......gotcha.

Praises dictators who want to destroy America - some patriot...

The only thing you got was comedy post of the day...at least until tomorrow....ROFL...

When America declares everyone who stands in its way to be a dictator, and people simply repeat that declaring it to be an unassailable fact, a rattling sound can be heard coming from George Orwell's grave.

When America calls one of its satrapies a democracy despite the 'election' being a farce that excludes significant amounts of the, it's moans.

George Orwell...1984...the State Thought Police...great description of Russia and China today....

When America calls one of its satrapies a democracy despite the 'election' being a farce that excludes significant amounts of the, it's moans.

Well that explains it - a fruitcake election denier - didn't you get the message? Rudy admitted that "This is not a fraud case" and "we just don't have any evidence"....may want to stay up with the news...

They insult Biden but go silent when asked what would happen to them if they did the same to the Peter The Little or Winnie the Pooh....likely shoved out a six story window or disappear forever into a gulag...

When America declares everyone who stands in its way to be a dictator, and people simply repeat that declaring it to be an unassailable fact,

So what you are saying is that Communist China is not n fact, a communist dictatorship and all opinion to the contrary is merely the result of the United States pulling the wool over everyone’s (including, it would seem, the Chinese’s) eyes?

I had no idea the reach of the deep state was so…..deep.
