Biden will do all he can to boost those numbers for the CCP.

Take number from the CCP for what they are worth. That said, with the new establishment govnt in the US, the CCP can celebrate... it is exactly what they wanted.

China needs more money for defense against the Uyghur Muslims. /s

Decouple from china now and prepare for their aggression before you wake up and its too late.

As China has always looked forward towards its expansion policy and for that it needs a strong defence, but it has never considered its own citizens. As China is focusing more on defence rather than developing itself internally and providing basic human rights to its citizens. As they are not allowed to express their views and if they do so they are threatened or are put behind the bars. Whereas China has won only 7 out of 15 battles so far.

Defense from whom? Commercial business sectors who only want free trade and competitive marketing and products? Why doesn't JT call it for what it is? IS JToday owned by the Chinese or has Chinese investors to leave out so many important details in the storyline? The other media around the world print news of China as aggressive not defensive in nature. Words used by China are "attack the US" attack Japan, attack well they did sort of attacked India, attack Taiwan, won't even go into Hong Kong we all saw what was coming. If Japan and US do not stop the aggressive nature by China then they will both wake up to find China building on the Senkaku's if not already, pretty sure the plans and designs are drawn up.

Reminds of the really rich kid that nobody liked.

china is such cancer in every way i dont know what else to say.

It is not the percent but the quality of the percent.

A 6% increase in making masks for the masses as a part of gdp does not compare to superior 1% increase in gdp of high end tech inventions like the US does.

The air looks so rank

So China actually plans to decouple technologically, interesting

A few passages in this tory scare the hell out me and a bit forward thinking here.

Here are the top 3.

1. Xi's government pursues more assertive trade and strategic policies and faces criticism over its treatment of Hong Kong and ethnic minorities. The ruling party has doubled down on crushing dissent as Xi tries to cement his image as a history making leader reclaiming China's rightful place as a global power.

2. Beijing claims Taiwan as its territory and has threatened to invade if it tries to make its de facto independence official. Li said the mainland will "resolutely deter" any activity "seeking 'Taiwan independence.'"

3. Li vowed to "work faster" to develop tech capabilities seen by communist leaders as a path to prosperity, strategic autonomy and global influence.

China may not a be global growth phenom yet. But in ten years.

China will expect everyone in Asia to speak Chinese.

Mandarin will be the thing perceived as cool.

Chinese schools everywhere.

Chinese influence everywhere.

Chinese banks at will be able to manipulate and destroy any market conflicting with Chinese interests.

Autonomous everything!

The death of currency.

Mark my words.

@ Peter 14

What you say could be true, But it's also true that US's Military spending is the biggest budget spending, mostly going to the MIC ( military ind.complex), lobbists, bribery etc. So, that eats the bang in the $.

The biggest threat to world peace has been, is now and will be the US.

> China is just taking sensible precautions to stand up for its own interests against US hegemony.

You have got to be joking. The US may be aggressive with authoritarian competitors like China, but it has done more to help other countries than anyone else.

China goes from strength to strength, America goes from bad to worse and Japan goes nowhere.

lol... Okay. CCP agent, I'm guessing.

So is South Korea the country that stole Takeshima away. #1 most Anti-Japan country on Earth.

Dokdo/Takeshima issue aside, South Korea has never invaded or colonized Japan (Or any country, for that matter) while Japan has done it twice. South Korea does have good reason to be wary of Japan, especially with the rising far-right popularity.

Including the most common pay allowances, the average total compensation for a US Army Private may range from $38,636.10 to $38,636.10 per year as of 2021.

https://www.military-ranks.org/army/private-pay

“I am so happy as I am going to receive an additional income of up to 7,000 yuan (US$1,000) after the pay rise, or a 40 per cent increase, taking my monthly income to more than 20,000 yuan,” said a Beijing-based colonel, who requested anonymity.

https://www.scmp.com/news/china/military/article/3118636/china-boost-pay-pla-forces-after-years-sweeping-reforms

A Chinese Colonel getting a pay rise to over $3089.23 per month or $37,070 per Year. (all in USD)

Based on pay rates alone more of the total US budget for defense goes to its personnel that the total Chinese advertised defense budget alone.

US army privates earn more wages than Chinese army Colonels.

The cost, man for man means China can maintain a much larger force for the same cost the US pays for its personnel. Dont start on equipment cost comparisons.

Just saying the USA spend over 700 billion and China 200 Billion does not reflect the actual value obtained by each nation. China with the smaller numerical budget gets a much higher value per dollar and in my estimation if it was costing everything at US costs it would need to have the higher budget in US dollar terms than America, to get what it gets now at Chinese dollar values.

@expat. Now compare that with national debt.

Does China think that anyone wants to attack them hence the need for the extra spending?

So America doesn’t have 180 military bases around the world, 30% aimed at attacking China, and a government/s that continually say they are at war with China?

S. Korea is at 43 Billion already. Rising faster then Japan's military spending and within the next decade will surpass Japan easily.

S. Korea, a country much smaller then Japan. With only half the population, 1/4 the land they have to defend and 1/8 the water they have to patrol and defend. They are only a few billion behind us on spending. More should be done. Needs to be done!

China is a threat militarily. Yes

North Korea. Yes

Russia. Yes

So is South Korea the country that stole Takeshima away. #1 most Anti-Japan country on Earth.

China needs to spend more on defence, those aging Tibeten monks are a serious threat as are those followers of....well anyone other than the CCP. And with having too many single boys, give them a gun. Problem solved.

Li promised to pursue "green development" following Xi's pledge last year to ensure China's carbon emissions peak by 2030 and to achieve carbon neutrality by 2060. That will require sharp increases in clean and renewable energy in an economy that gets 60% of its power from coal and is the world's biggest source of climate-changing industrial pollution.

I hope that they can get the air pollution under control, though it looks like it hasn't improved much from those pictures. The AQI is reading today is more than 200...yikes...normally they try to control emissions and traffic during the Two Sessions and other important meetings so Beijing can have blue skies. I used to live in Beijing and the air pollution nearly drove me insane.

If the USGov duopoly was not beholden to the rentier parasites of Wall Street et al and their deindustrialization/financialization agenda maybe America could prevent being overtaken by China.

In the past GDP growth figures have been suspect because infrastructure expansion did not increase at a rate that would correspond to the stated growth.

1 ( +3 / -2 )

So that's about 10%? 15%? of US spending?

-2 ( +6 / -8 )

Why the term Defense when its clearly the aggressor , so Attack Spending would be more realistic for the headline.

and Russia. Decades of economic growth coupled with its ongoing military modernization have enabled China to emerge as a major player in the global arms trade.
