Was watching the panic on TV last night, and that was far scarier than the virus, in my opinion. People shouting from their apartment windows that they were starving to death. People trapped on a bus and not allowed to go home (or it looked like a bus), police trying to keep people from going out also freaking out because THEY couldn't go home either, etc. Scary stuff.

I hope people of China will remember what their countries totalitarian CCP and Xi done to them and their family members and rise up!!!

Maybe this is then end for the Chinese government.

What’s behind this nonsense?

People being tossed out of their homes or being confined?

Not able to buy food means people will die and the state won’t be blamed but the virus will be-ridiculous!

The situation is ‘grim’ but it isn’t the virus that is to blame for it…

@K The situation is ‘grim’ but it isn’t the virus that is to blame for it…

And yet some continue to post anti-democracy, pro-authoritarian messages in support of totalitarian nations like Russia and China, and during the pandemic some posted disinformation which came from the Kremlin or one of its media outlets. Som of these posters use 'western' media to attack western media

And some believe China is the future. Just look at this and think about that. Is this what the world wants for it's "bright" future? Hard lock downs are one thing but this level is beyond ridiculous. People must eat, exercise and have access to medical treatment and medications.

Lockdowns only work when everyone is supporting them and when they are done right (without starvation). It only takes a small handful not cooperating to circumvent all the efforts of everyone else doing the right thing.

China has lost focus on the whole in trying to maintain focus on the specific.

If they know something the world does not that justifies this level of overly harsh lock-in's, then it should make that information public. Just what is it hiding?

I keep worrying that this has been engineered to continue to mutate until hitting a much more deadly strain that will wipe out a huge portion of humanity. As a way of dealing with climate change through reduction of the problem. Humans themselves. If so and if China knows that, it would explain the continuing harsh policies in use in China. While the rest of the world is now opening up in the hope this pandemic is over. What is it that China knows.

Keeping people forcibly in lockdown means that commodity prices can be better controlled.

Imagine what would happen if suddenly millions of people start consuming normally in a short timeframe?

We have seen this happen in the world recently with higher inflation everywhere.

I would reason that the China CCP is attempting to stop mass food riots and a consequent threat to its hegemony

Possibly, but the Chinese have that hysterical element in their personae as seen in the Cultural Revolution. Desert Tortoise can attest to this by the in-law first hand stories he’s shared. What you came up with would be the plot for a novel such as Dean R. Koontz’s .

Keeping people forcibly in lockdown means that commodity prices can be better controlled.

If it were more a significant portion of the population - Shanghai has 28 million of China’s 1400 million population.

Maybe this is then end for the Chinese government.

Kind of like Evergrande was supposed to crash the Chinese economy? The CCP is unfortunately using Shanghai as an experiment in battling viruses. The people there are guinea pigs subject to experimental and other observational procedures.

if the cost of getting natural resistance or herd immunity is a million avoidable deaths then obviously they don’t think that is the way to go.

There is heavy criticism of the government all over the Internet. No one is allowed out, not even to go to the hospital. One foreigner who had priapism, a permanent or prolonged erection, was the exception prompting netizens to criticize that the government cares more about a foreigner’s penis than their lives.

I am waiting to see if / how the World Health Organization uses the Chinese Covid death toll headlines to promote their World Immunization Week. It starts 24 April, runs through 30 April, and its theme is years is “Long Life for All.”

The theme has been selected in pursuit of a long life to be lived happily and healthily. Making it a global campaign, WHO has also given a hashtag #Vaccines4Life. This is a carry forward campaign of UNICEF’s one of the most successful campaigns, Vaccines for all.

Important? We can watch and wait to see if / how media coverage (like this article) is used, especially since there appears to be considerable frustration on the part of some public health types over falling interest. And money.

Now, it is clear that the world will fall far short of [WHO’s goal to fully vaccinate 70% of the population in every country against COVID-19 by June 2022] by the deadline. And there is a growing sense of resignation among public health experts that high COVID vaccination coverage may never be achieved in most lower-income countries, as badly needed funding from the United States dries up and both governments and donors turn to other priorities.

+++

There is also hope that a global COVID summit the White House plans to co-host next month could be an opportunity to generate momentum and funding.

+++

The vaccine regimens that had been planned for the developing world offered little protection against infection with the omicron variant. And as sub-Saharan African countries were shut out of vaccine distribution for much of last year, more and more Africans gained protection against the virus from natural infection, which studies have shown works as well as two mRNA doses in preventing infection. New data from the WHO shows that at least two-thirds of Africans had been infected with the virus before the omicron wave.

Drive to Vaccinate the World Against COVID Is Losing Steam, https://finance.yahoo.com/news/drive-vaccinate-world-against-covid-140924000.html.

Spin? Maybe. Now we wait.

And to think just about 1.5 years ago china had a celebration indicating that they defeated covid all the while ridiculing the West for floundering. Hmmm.

For perspective, New Zealand’s Ministry of Health officials resigned recently, in the midst of 10 to 20 Covid related deaths per day.

For this perspective to have a meaning you would need to adapt the definition of COVID death that the CCP is using, which is not only much more limited (considering only deaths where no other pathology is identified) but also heavily manipulated according to multiple reports.

New Zealand numbers are much more transparent and include anybody for whom COVID is a contributing cause of death, if it were to do the same as China the numbers would be much lower.

New Zealand is a very small country and very low density of populations, it was unacceptable that 10~20 people died daily. China ia big but the population is high and concentrated on east coast cities like Shanghai, I think it was irrelevent to compare NZ & China, big difference of human density.

The Chinese govt. has reduced the deaths to minimum due to her high efficiency of lockdown procedures.

Nothing is more important than saving lives. If you comparing with United States, a modernized nation of 300millions with a staggering death toll of 1 Million, you will find out who is better.

I'm covering my eyes.

Can anyone tell me if there are any sources supplied in the above post?

China dig its own grave with their lack of adaptability, ever since delta became prevalent the zero covid approach was doomed to fail, no matter how much they are trying to hide the truth it is already leaking and proving how bad they are managing this crisis.

I'm covering my eyes.

Can anyone tell me if there are any sources supplied in the above post?

So, when did the comment section here degenerated to kindergarten level?
