I am interested in avian flu in relation to the socio economics and humanity. I am not very impressed how Chinese government is now taking over Chinese media on avian flu issue. The world wants to know the facts. Please do not hide anything. Tell us the facts. Any problem?. We all need to educate those ignorant poor people on hygenes just like we did for AIDS from spreading. I believe it is a smart investment in humanity and it is a win/win for all.

Being the 2nd largest economy indicates little to nothing about human development, and you know it. China is a densely populated country of over a billion people, and most of them are poor. That doesn't change at all quickly, and neither does it with countries like India, Indonesia, etc. Are you actually interested in the complexities of Chinese politics and human, or are you just trying to take to your first world pedestal and preach at those ignorant poor people to stop being poor?

China is the 2nd largest economy is the world. Instead of spending over 10% of its GDP over the military expansion , this is where China should spend spend more money, time and effort as they have a "Global Social Responsibility".

Over use of antibiotics in food industry probably creating tougher strains of viruses and dangerous viral mutations and that is why thing are getting out of control.

But birds do not stay put, they also fly, migrate so they can be in 3rd world countries in one season, get sick etc..get up and FLY and land here in Japan, etc..and then we can get sick here too. Or take any other choice of birds that migrate form "low tech dirty countries" to "high tech clean countries". So yes kind of like Epidemiology 101 but we also have to take into account that we are now focusing on birds, but my guess out in China etc...you may have a market with a bunch of chickens, right next to a stall with live pigs, next to a stall with god knows what so this VIRUS will not be only in birds, but MUTATE and go on to pigs, US humans, etc..

Because bird flu tends to germinate much more easily in countries with high population density, hot and humid conditions, low tech farming and hence lower hygiene standards. E.g. southern China, India, Indonesia, Philippines, Malaysia, etc. This is like Epidemiology 101.
But I'm pretty sure you knew that already, and your actual motive was a jab at China.

Why does Avian flu always start around in Hongkong and Shanghai? That's what I would like to know. Never started around in Australia, Scandinavian countries, Canada? Am I the only one who raise this simple question like this?

If we're already seeing it, it's already too late for such a culling to have the full effect, and really they're not sure what they're looking for except that it's birds.
