Now you see how little the Chinese government can be trusted to maintain peace in the region? Do you finally see what lies in store for the rest of Asia if China keeps getting its way?? We're at a crossroads, friends, and every unchecked encroachment on the sovereignty of other Asian nations is just another "Munich-style" capitulation: the aggressor knows that to choose to do nothing is still a choice, a choice of weakness.

"Peaceful Rise" was a pathetically dishonest ruse invented by a bloody-minded dictatorship~ those Chinese "communists" will lie to anyone, right to their faces, until they secure enough power to then stab their opponents in the back! The question is, what is anyone going to do about it?

Time to build a PAT (Pacific Alliance Treaty) against China with all these other Asian nations worried about its overt and belligerent aggressiveness. NATO worked out pretty well against Soviet encroachment in Europe, so why not repeat the act in the East? I'm sure there'd be no shortage of countries willing to sign up....

Does Japan allow finishing near diaoyu/sankaku island? Does Japan not use their naval ships to fire water cannons or collide on the fishing boats from Taiwan and China? Do they not arrest the fishermen

So why are you complaining? Whatever you do only legitimize what others want to do. So far they are only -wanting- to do it. You are already doing it for many years.

There're some serious logic gaps in the heads of the Japanese people. One should hope this is only a tiny proportion. Illogical thinking leads to war. Learn the lesson from the history!

Does Japan allow finishing near diaoyu/sankaku island?

What you seem to not be aware of is there is a huge problem with Chinese fishing vessels in undisputed Japanese waters such as those near Okinawa, let alone with the waters around Senkakus.

It's not widely reported but it happens basically every day. Obviously Japan is not making a big stink about it. Can you imagine China not blowing their top over similar?

As opposed to China which fires live rounds.

Vietnam and China clashed militarily several times in the past 30 years over the Paracel islands, which are included in the new zone. Chinese ships fired on two Vietnamese fishing boats in 2005, killing 9 people. Video from Vietnam posted online several years ago also showed Chinese patrol boats firing machine guns at Vietnamese fishermen near the Paracels.

But not to worry. Vietnam has just received its first Kilo-class submarine from Russia with five more to go. Malaysia paid $1.1 billion for two submarines in 2007 and 2009. Indonesia is expanding its submarine fleet to twelve by 2020. China's rise is peaceful alright. It's so peaceful, it's started an arms race.

The time has come to cut them off.

Ok we can't just cut them off, but must Holt there market growth 100%. There growth is very small now, so the time is right. Best thing to do is invest in India, seen as they make = cheap goods, that could just see more growth making up for 90% of china's growth.

We have seen all we have to see, 2 know they have been talking BS the hole time. Getting let to have a market was based on there promise "to not start any trouble" and not to build up attack weapons aircraft carries and the list goes on.

Its beyond clear they are just going for more and more, and that more is going to lead to wars.

The hole reason why mass people in power did not want to give them a market, was for this precise reason. As It turns out there fears, or what they said "have become 100% true" like they new it would.

If we are going to be so dumb to watch this and not act, we will see ww3 or a massive war costing mass millions of lives in the future. We can see they have lied and did 50 things they kept denying unto, but yet have still not acted on there massive buildup and a massive buildup of weapons to attack other country's.

All communist once rich build up and start wars. These guy mass murder there own and do not give a Shi&. I am stunned how dumb everyone is, and can 100% see why history repeats its self's.

Ether America wants a war that will kill of 100drs of millions of people, or there brain dead beveling nothing is going to happen.

At what point are they going to cut them off? When they are close to tec and have $10 trillion saved up ready to pull out?, So china can attack mass country's why they site in there new 5,000 mile long underground bomb proof / nuclear bomb proof tunnels system, that can move 100drs of thousands of troops tanks and weapons forward, away from nuclear or attack. Yeah they have know plans for a massive war building that "OMG" WTF

"Does Japan allow finishing near diaoyu/sankaku island? Does Japan not use their naval ships to fire water cannons or collide on the fishing boats from Taiwan and China? Do they not arrest the fishermen"

Actually, Japan does. They recently signed a fishing treaty with Taiwan that allows Taiwanese fishermen to fish in the disputed waters. I think it happened in April 2013. Google it for details.

Anything else you wish to have disproved?

6 ( +6 / -0 )

The press has done a great job whipping you all up into an anti-China frenzy. The article explains that all that happened was a technical difference to already existing rules, but nobody wants to scratch that surface. How big a change from before? I don't know, but I do note the article does not say. Why not? Because like I said, they are whipping you into an anti-China frenzy and they are doing it on purpose.

You folks are acting like they just annexed the Sudetenland or invaded Poland. Its just fishing rights. Take few slow, deep breaths.

-7 ( +0 / -7 )

Scott it would be all for nothing, any leader that would allow their country to be destroyed to get an "advantage" is clearly insane. Even if they live when they reenter the would it would be a graveyard. Then they would have to face another strike.

The PRC is trying to bluff the world into giving in to its plans. Then again I do not think their tunnel system would survive. No think a lot of their demands are fodder to keep its population happy. Again even if they have a couple hundred thousand troops. How will they eat? Where will they get supplies to keep the things running? If enough nukes are used it would be hundreds of years before they can leave their tunnels.

No I hope this is bluster so they can get part of what they demand. The reality is the PRC does not have enough forces to win. I say to the other countries united we stand, divided we fall.

4 ( +4 / -0 )

@funny car

existing rules?

How about UNICLOS and the exclusive economic zone AKA as EEZ? PRC does not own them under Internationally recognized law of the sea and only pressing unilateral rules drawn by Beijing which no other nation recognize.

Fishing rights are essential part of a EEZ rights and PRC doesn't own them in those part of the sea.

5 ( +6 / -1 )

Yeah, existing rules. Its in the article.

My point was not remotely UNICLOS or EEZ. My point was that this issue is old and stale and dating from 1993. I am not here to declare the validity of the rules. I am just saying that it looks to me like far too much ado is being made over a change in a rule dating from 20 years ago. A change I note, that is not being clearly described for us.

And people are not hesitating to let their bias be their guide. What do you think the lack of detail was intended to do? Do you like operating under-informed?

-7 ( +1 / -8 )

But it is largely identical to an existing measure from 2004, and reports said similar rules had also been declared in 1998 and 1993.

The rule--- which comes as tensions have escalated over overlapping claims with the Philippines, Vietnam and other nations ---was called provocative by the U.S.

According the article, the rule of 2013 enforcement is same as 2004, 1998 and 1993 again. If it is the same as before, it was existing rule. Not the new one. What took it so long for US calling PRC as provocative? Why should US have to wait from 1993 to 2013 for calling? Japan is the Champion of aggressive fishing near South Pacific not only South China and East China Sea. US should refrain Japan fishing for the sake of sustainability.

Actually, Japan does. They recently signed a fishing treaty with Taiwan that allows Taiwanese fishermen to fish in the disputed waters. I think it happened in April 2013. Google it for details.

Japan has never honored treaty singed with Taiwan. Japan used to flip-flopped with treaties signed with Taiwan such as Taipei treaty signed with US witness. Even Japan did not honor that treaty, fishing treaty will be laughing stock for Japan. After signing fishing treaty with Taiwan for less than one year, Japanese fishing authority showed the true color again.

If Japan really honor the treaty signed with Taiwan, Blue Fin Tuna will fall from sky. Mount Fuji will be re-active again. Cherry Blossom will be last for a year.

Committee members met in Taipei in May but nothing concrete emerged from the first meeting.

One concerns the request by Japanese fishermen for Taiwanese fishermen to shorten the distance between trawlers and change the direction of casting their nets.

funny car said: The press has done a great job whipping you all up into an anti-China frenzy.

I'm sure it's just the press. Any resemblance to China's "cabbage" strategy is pure coincidence.

China's approach reflects what the Chinese general Zhang Zhaozhong this year called a "cabbage" strategy: assert a territorial claim and gradually surround the area with multiple layers of security, thus denying access to a rival. The strategy relies on a steady progression of steps to outwit opponents and create new facts on the ground.

If it looks like a duck, quacks like a duck and walks like a duck... according to China to call it a duck shows a "lack of basic common sense or some ulterior motive."

7 ( +8 / -1 )

A war is looming and the main perpetrator is the PRC and it's continued attempts at taking any and all territories.

China will continue to push until they push too hard and then all bets are off.

4 ( +5 / -1 )

House Atreides, I am not denying that there is strategy by China here. There is. I am just saying there is ALSO strategy by your own side to whip you into a frenzy. The Chinese, Japanese and American governments on one level seem to be great friends and allies. They all want you in war mode.

Anything done by China, they respond to like clock-work.

As for cabbage strategy, the Chinese are merely expanding and perfecting what Japan did before them; Japan with their massive ADIZ, EEZ and terra nullius hocus pocus. But at least China is only after some islands and sea they actually do have as much claim to as others, or better (even though some don't want to admit it). There is no reason to think they after all of Asia (a claim that seems centered on them taking Tibet over 60 years ago).

-8 ( +0 / -8 )

The problem I see in all these posts are.. the people of China will only believe what their own captures tell them They agree they have the right to own others, control others, because they themselves accept being owned and controlled themselves. What else should we expect from the people of China that post anti-Japan, anti US, pro-China! Cheap nationalism instilled within China society based on total ignorance induced into the manipulated minds of the Chinese people.

“If someone insists on calling technical revisions to a local fishing regulation that has already been implemented for years a matter of regional tension, a threat to regional stability, then all I can say is, this is either a lack of basic common sense or some ulterior motive.”

Isn't this excuse interesting. One could certainly draw an analogy with the government purchase of the rest of the Senkakus from a private Japanese owner (who had presumably paid property tax on the land to the Japanese government all along). Seems like a great example of a "technical revision" to me. Yet the PRC reacted with outrage when that was announced calling the move, among other things, a "threat to regional stability". I wonder if they realize how weird their public proclamations sound to the free world.

It must be clear to anyone by now that the commies are just going to trot out their double standard anytime someone raises a peep of protest to their strong arm tactics. What truly vile leadership the citizens of PRC are subjected to .

Vietnam will live to regret for kicking out America. Needless to say that now they are the most who want US back into the region to have counter balance against the immense weight of China.

0 ( +2 / -2 )

Do you know how many Vietnamese fisherman have been killed by chinese?

0 ( +0 / -0 )

The notion that anyone other than China itself is creating the "China Threat" is ludicrous. Everyone else is simply responding to China's actions. Those who attempt to justify China's actions are even funnier.

1 ( +3 / -2 )

anbinh the US was responsible for killing over a million Vietnamese during the conflict. Yet they are now friends with the USA.

Make acquaintance with NEW China : economic and political giant.

The best solution : step back from chinese coast .

Go out fishing with Navy guard ship. Communist Chinese Government has trying to dominate and restriction in Asia-Pacific region.

The only one thing can teach Communist Chinese Government lesson. Boycott all made in Communist Chinese goods and only buy local products in effected Countries will teach Communist Chinese Government about how to behave with its neighbors. The more you buy Made in Communist Republic of China products and the more you will get aggressive from Communist China because Communist Chinese Government use your money for buy and made weapons which use for bully neighbors. The rich Communist country does not contribute and benefit to the world. Communism is Totalitarianism. I have no doubt about the Communist leaders yearning of to control its neighbor and the world.

Communist Chinese leaders’ ideology is they do not need to obey the law and rule which they do not wrote but its neighbors and peoples must respect the law and rule which they wrote. You can not make stable friendship or relationship with Communist China. So Prime Minister Shinzo Abe policy is perfectly matched with Communist Chinese leaders’ ideology.

Not at all - just provide security of national borders & national waters

The country which

trying to dominate and restriction in Asia-Pacific region.

USA

sad but truth

The only one thing can teach Communist Chinese Government lesson. Boycott all made in Communist Chinese goods

Little question - why "Free World " have invest so muuch in "Communist China"?

My be because of that simple fact - money is very important , principles is not so important

Anyway today is tooo late to blame " bad commies " (and good investors from US&Japan)

OlegekJan. 12, 2014 - 03:18PM JST Not at all - just provide security of national borders & national waters

National water are not the entire Sea of Japan or the China Sea. China has claimed every bit of those seas and they base their arguments on ancient tales and history!

But, the present Chinese seem to forget that that the People's Republic of China wasn't even a nation in 1946!

Claiming that you own the ancient territories of your nation is like the Mongolian's claiming that they own present day China and Russia.

Your nation's argument is absurd and childish at best.

But, I understand that if you question this propaganda you will disappear and will next be seen on some news feed admitting that you were wrong and then "puff" you would be gone again.

Oppression is oppression when you cannot speak your mind or go against the state.

0 ( +1 / -1 )

The Chinese are not fools, Beijing is just using all of this BS to distract the poor angry Chinese masses who are pissed off at Beijing corruption!!

0 ( +0 / -0 )

JoeBigs National water are not the entire Sea of Japan or the China Sea. China has claimed every bit of those seas and they base their arguments on ancient tales and history!

entire Sea of Japan- including Japan coast ?

But, the present Chinese seem to forget that that the People's Republic of China wasn't even a nation in 1946!

China has 4 thousand years of history. They have good times and ...not so good but they are still here

Claiming that you own the ancient territories of your nation is like the Mongolian's claiming that they own present day China and Russia.

China has its cities and population mainly at the coast of Pacific so its quite natural to take away any hostile fleets from this coast

Your nation's argument is absurd and childish at best.

It's not my nation - I'm not from China - but this is so easy to understand China's position

If US send military forces 10 000 miles away from national borders to "protect" national interests its quite normal

If China made the same thing NEAR its national borders - it's aggression...

-1 ( +0 / -1 )

China won't be able to enforce any of the rules. Bad idea to introduce them in the first place. China should work out amiable rules of conduct with its south sea neighbors. Surely none of those small countries want to have to problems with china. Cannot possibly be good for them in the long run. So China's move is very puzzling.

Very likely the military hawks have been gaining more influence lately. Xi's been cracking down hard on them on corruption (no more drinkies, no more luxury cars, etc.) Got to give them some other things. More ships. But then what do they do with more ships? Set up some fishing rules so that they have something to do. Surely there be will lots of strings that tie them down, so that they actually can't do anything.

The central government is not all that interested in any sort of conflicts with anyone, except Abe's Japan perhaps. They are more interested in showcasing the new hardware for export. Many of those ships are already on trade shows in models around the world, before they even had their first sea trials.
