China dismisses Canadian protests over cases tied to Huawei

Inside China, having a non-Chinese GPS device is illegal, so for all of us taking our non-Chinese-modified smart phones that don't use the Chinese GPS system into mainland China, we are actually breaking Chinese law and could be arrested. Do you pre-load Google Maps before your visit for off-line use? That's 2 Chinese laws you've broken.

So, are these 2 Canadians guilty of breaking some Chinese law, almost certainly. Should the laws they broke lead to a fine over US$50, nope.

As for Meng, there is little to zero chance that Trump knew anything about her outstanding extradition request in the world before it happened. The US has hundreds if not thousands of outstanding extradition requests around the world. There are lots of Russian, Chinese, NK and Ukrainian nationals on the list for remote computer hacking. The US President doesn't know any of those by name, but the US Justice department does.

China's CCP is behind the latest COVID Virus, and is also releasing new variants upon us now... beware unmasked Chinese walking around aimless touching products in shops and rapidly leaving without making a purchase... that's how the first version started, and its happening all over again. The new version is deadlier, and being vaccinated will not help you one bit, so you need to help yourself - and be cautious - wear facemask coverings, avoid close contact with others... this is for now (until the CCP have been gotten rid of) the new normal.

Do not visit China. Do not buy their products whenever possible. Support Taiwan and whatever democratic elements exist. Accept Hong Kong and Uyghur refugees. That's about all we can do.

China is a joke with its complete lack of transparency in such cases. Underdeveloped countries like China don't deserve a seat at the international table with developed countries. Maybe someday but not yet.

Commentators seem to actively ignore or underplay the role of the United States in having created this drama. They also dismiss the painfully obvious reality that Meng's arrest on behalf of the Trump administration was a bad faith, politically motivated stunt as part of a broader US effort to destroy the reputation of Huawei and to simultaneously drive a wedge between China's relationship with Canada. 

This dynamic is almost completely dismissed in favour of the one-sided mantra of depicting Canada as a victim of Chinese tyranny and presenting its legal system as completely illegitimate. The scores of Western diplomats who appeared outside of the court as a publicity stunt sends an insulting message to China which stirs historical memories, and is an important part of the context as to why Beijing reacted the way it did. This context is important to a balanced understanding.

When European Empires forced their will on China in the 19th century, they pursued a practice called ‘extra-territorialism’, whereby their nationals in China were exempt from local laws and only held to account under their own laws, disregarding Chinese sovereignty and receiving ‘special treatment’ for themselves, because, they argued, the Chinese legal system was backwards and barbaric. 

This historical experience has influenced how Beijing approaches the subject of law and order, as well its diplomacy towards Western countries on these matters

But China is too arrogant to realize that all of this posturing is just making them look worse and worse in the eyes of the world.

it seems that increasingly, they simply don't care what the rest of the world thinks; as long as whoever makes any arbitrary decision think they look 'good' in front of Xi. they know the west is soft and won't do anything more than 'condemn' their actions, to which they simply go: 'eh, whatevah'

I usually say we must STOP feeding the Monster.....but it really needs to be be-headed, for EVERYONES well being, including the Chinese people!!!!

Time for Meng to be held in maximum security prison until her extradition case is completed and she gets shipped in chains to the US. Canada should also look for one or two Chinese "communist party spy's" to put behind bars for a decade or two. China has spy's in every country so finding them shouldn't be too hard.

I don't think Justin Trudeau saying “absolutely unacceptable and unjust." will sway China overmuch.

If it wasn’t a human life on trail, the opportunity for parody comments is unlimited. The insistence on China being unquestioned just raises the question “why” Chinas response as an adult nation…because I said so? Mmmmm they the Chinese government might need to further limit access to Avenues of free knowledge. And ramp up the love China lessons in schools.

Just sometimes foreigners commit crimes overseas, even in China. Sometimes Chinese commit crimes in our countries.

At some point the rest of the world is going to have to remove its collective head from the sand and realize that while we are not at war with the Chinese CCP and its allies, they are at war with us. We must now fight them at every level. We can still be aggressive ans victorious without resorting to their vulgar and primitive methods. Unfortunately we now lack only one thing: the will to do so.
