well the start of US companies being shut out of the Chinese market begins, most countries around the world are moving towards China not the US , this could become something the US will regret. Chinese government will still be in control on China once Trump is long gone.

Go Trump! We are done with being taken advantage of by China.
the ones who will have to pay the price are Mr. & Mrs. Smith!
Yeah, Mr. & Mrs. Smith have been paying the price of having China rip us off for decades. No more.
Chinese government will still be in control on China once Trump is long gone.
Yeah, probably the Communists will still be in control of China after Jan. 2025, but they won't be taking advantage of us anymore.

This will cause a trade spike with Europe that will increase Europe's trading surplus with the US.
White goods and other items once sourced from cheaper Chinese manufacturers will now be sourced from European countries as they will now be the same price or cheaper for better quality goods. Products that last longer, are more reliable and do the job better are now going to be the choice purchase of US citizens. The down side is Trump will bemoan the growing trade deficit with Europe and start a new trade conflict with them.

If the Democrats take the White House in 2020 it will be back to business as usual with China. In other words China wins, we lose.

1st Currency War (happened)
2nd Trade War (currently)
3rd .. WORLD WAR (soon?)
Deadforgood
Yea, as much as Trump likes to talk about how much the world needs America, with his policies the world needs America less than they ever have...which leaves a pretty big gap for countries like China and Russia to fill in for. We lost the trade war as soon as Trump started it, and its leaving us broken. Look, American companies started moving abroad as soon as Trump began this whole thing. Not really surprised, people who actually know how to run companies get out of Trump's way because they don't need him tanking them along with him.

they wont need to , Trump is just making AMericans pay higher for goods and materials, making manufacturing more expensive and their exports less competitive to foreign countries. They'll start to lose buyers for their goods as China EU etc will be able to buy them from cheaper countries. With tariffs you can't have your cake and eat it as well, somebody always loses. Americans are addicted to cheap imports, if its not from China , then itll be some other cheap labour Asian country

Higher cost of living, with no respect for the minimum/average wage families, which Trump's base has many of. Funny watching them praise Trump and wonder why they struggle more and more each day.
JeffLee
Why would it? Since Trump rolled out the first tranche of tariffs, China's economy slowed down while the US's economy surged ahead.

I see the anti Trumpers are at it again making comments because America finally has a President that doesn't roll over and sell out American Jobs to another Country.
The Chinese Government seems to think they can just play games, and are getting slapped down - job loses are building China while the American Jobs market is booming, its just a matter of when American Companies start transferring manufacturing to another low cost Country or return them home with robotics and automation.

Dear soybean farmers and autoworkers in Ohio, Pennsylvania, Wisconsin, Iowa and Michigan who voted for Trump and made him our president.
There's a price to pay for pride and ignorance, and the bill is coming due.
You're welcome.

I'm an anti-Trumper, but your comments are not why I think Trump is poor at dealing with this. The problem is that he's conflated two issues:
1) IP theft
2) Trade deficit
The first one is a valid concern that must be addressed. The second is Trump's poor understanding of how trade works, and his elementary mindset that sees the word 'deficit' and thinks it's a bad thing, being too stupid that America is the stronger party when it comes to trade deficits.
If he were correctly separating these issues, then it would be easy to address them. But he's blending them, which just messes everything up and makes it harder. And regular Americans will be the ones to suffer for his amateurness.
Deadforgood
It's not surprising that Trump's foreign policies are falling apart like a low budget cosmetic surgery operation. Trade war, NK, Iran, Venezuela, on and on and on. It's almost as if he has no idea what he's doing...
Strangerland
And look at the three trade wars he started:
Europe - shelved after US lost.
Canada-Mexico - they came up with a re-writing of the original NAFTA treaty, and even that looks like Congress won't ratify it now, and they are just going to revert back to NAFTA.
China - Ongoing, but zero results.
Remember when he said "trade wars are easy to win"? Then why hasn't he even won a single trade war?
Pathetic.

Let's face it, if he did he would have a hard time getting up again.

Birds of a feather.
Meanwhile Xi bides his time and keeps his own council.
Because he's a narcissistic megalomaniac who thinks he's a stable genius who can do anything.
He's too stoopid to grasp the extent of all the stuff he doesn't understand. He lives in a permanent fog of memememe.

Just take some of that $1.3 trillion dollar spending on the military and invest it in technology and the economy. Learn from the decline of the Roman Empire and we won’t lose.

Trump and his daughter have most or all of the goods they sell, made in China. Talk about him NOT selling out is incorrect. He leads by his example.

And up until then, American farmers, metal workers, auto workers, construction workers, etc., will all take it in the shorts thanks to the author of the "Art of Losing $1 Billion"...

China will win this trade war
I seriously doubt that, we're their best customer by far, they need us more than we need them.
This is just what China wanted
I seriously doubt that, Northern. No one else is saying that.
Trump's poor understanding of how trade works
Oh, but Biden and Bernie do, right? hahahahaha

Dear soybean farmers and others overly dependent on exports to China - you guys made a big mistake. You're gonna have to endure some hardship for the good of the rest of the country.

When all those Chinese made goods that China's best customer buys increase in price 300%, will you still be cheering Donny?
Irrelevant, but you did satisfy your obsessive compulsion to bash Dems.
Damn the farmers for engaging in the market! Damn them all to hell! They should have known Donny was incompetent and would start trade wars.
lincolnman
So Donnie, these Chinese tariffs - do they apply to your ties and all the other clothing items your company and Ivanka's manufactures in China?

But vote for Trump/Pence in 2020 and we'll kick you in the head some more....

but they won't be taking advantage of us anymore.
they wont need too China will be the largest economy and consumer market in the world in the near future, nothing the US does will stop that. The US can join in on the Chinese market of be shut out, their choice. Id say many countries are hoping on the later more business for them without the US.

Good on Trump! Keep up the pressure, still amazed how Schumer s backing the President on this.
