Trump has offered billions in aid to buy out U.S. farms badly damaged in the U.S.-China trade war. U.S. soy exports collapsed last year, virtually wiping out foreign markets farmers had spent years cultivating.

Socialism as damage control for Trump's reckless trade wars. Will this be enough to keen/gain the farm vote?

Correct - this is absolutely socialism - government subsidizing private businesses rather than letting the market determine a level playing field.

So Trumpers, what do you think of Trump enacting clear socialist policies?

Sounds like Donnie has lots in common with AOC, Omar, and Bernie...

Yeah, since when does another country HAVE to buy from US Donnie? Here's an idea Donnie, make it so you don't screw up negotiations in the first place by starting a blind lash out trade war and stupid tariffs to drastically poison and unbalance the economic relationship previously had before! Countries only buy from other countries if that country can produce what the buying country WANTS to get! Buy 'Murican cars? Only when companies produce quality cars that others want! cough Tesla cough and not much being sent out from GM, Ford, Jeep, etc...

China used to buy a nice chunk of agricultural goods BEFORE dumb Donnies interference. But Mr. Negotiator had to screw it up because he mistakes a country for a company. And countries don't work like companies.

A billion dollar trust fund loser.

Does China actually need American produce?

So the US trade deficit is rising with Mexico

NAFTA is dead, long live NAFTA

but China is letting us down in that they have not been buying the agricultural products from our great Farmers

Trump again with an other-guy defense, pointing the blame away from him, which is probably what's to be expected from a spoiled class Nancy-boy.

China had better get with the program or they are going to suffer.

How?

This is Trump making America Great!

"Trump implied China would be immediately out there and sales would be going to happen right away. This is not what has occurred."

Maybe don't listen to Trump and take it at face value?

When Donny says 'China promised to buy American stuff', does he mean China the country is expected to import American products and distribute them to the people a la old-fashioned devilish communism?

I don't think global trade works like that.

Surely it doesn't matter what Xi promises (he can promise to lower tariffs, of course); if the people choose not to buy American stuff (and why should they, when Donny is slagging off their country on Twitter all the time?), it's going to stay unsold and there's no point importing more of the same. That's not China backsliding on promises, it's Chinese consumers reacting to Donnyism.

government subsidizing private businesses rather than letting the market determine a level playing field

Except that it's not the market determining the playing field; Donny ploughed deep holes all over it with his tariffs and trade wars, first of all putting the US consumer at a disadvantage as goods become artificially more expensive, and then putting US producers at a disadvantage by inviting trading partners to also impose tit-for-tat tariffs. Not so much Make America Great Again as Make America Gag Abjectly.

I don't think Donny bailing out the farmers with subsidies is socialism so much as patchwork CYA. And pretty incompetent CYA at that.

China had better get with the program or they are going to suffer.

What does this mean, exactly? Will they suffer like US farmers?

5 ( +5 / -0 )

Trump is brain dead, why must China buy their agricultural products ??? when these products are not produced

better than the Chinese can produced. Would U spent yr money if U can produce better quality agriculture products all natural ???. A big bully, that is what trump is. Throw a tantem when he cannot gets what he wants.

Yeah!!! With all those trump tariffs the Chinese have been forced to pay by 12 dimensional tiddlywinks played masterfully by Dear Leader they don't stand a chance.

MAGA!!!!

As long as Trump has a base that celebrates his failures, he'll be fine.

"China is not making major purchases, certainly not since the Xi meeting," Nelson said. "Trump implied China would be immediately out there and sales would be going to happen right away. This is not what has occurred."

Will "dumpsters" add this to his list of accomplishments?

"I thinking sending them to..."

Wait...round up a group of people and send them somewhere? Hello late 1930's early 1940's Europe

Poor Trump. Fooled yet again by another dictator.

Nobody wants to be forced into buying from suppliers who they don't like. Trump just makes business harder for everyone else.

Does China actually need American produce?

maybe want, but certainly not need, many didnt realise that there are many other countries around the world that are lining up to take business away from America and it showing now.

trade deficits continue to grow, trade wars arent easy to win as US farmers are knowing too well.

Mr China and Mr Kim play trump like a pet rabbit.

Feed it a bit of carrot to make it behave.

Then play the part of rabbit feeder.

Commercial rules abuse of power by the USA is a recurring thing.

A decade forcing others for free trade.

A decade a protectionism.

This has happened for a century regardless of the government.

"Does China actually need American produce?"

I don't know whether they actually need American; however, providing Chinese eat grains only, they'll still have to wait until 2035. Maybe they can survive until then without eating, who knows?

"China is on the way to guaranteeing food security with grain self-sufficiency to be generally achieved by 2035, according to a report released on June 26."

Not according to the Dow Jones.

But that’s the Dow. Wouldn’t be the first time they were wrong.

Well, they definitely can’t do anything. California and it’s agriculture has proved that over and over and over.
