Most likely because Cadet Spanky was playing golf at one of his resorts - on the taxpaying public's dime.
Trump's bringing the US system down with nothing (so far) to replace it. In fairness, though, that's what Trump said he wanted to do all along, and his supporters echoed their political messiah.
But if it's 'all about the economy, stupid', and the US economy was doing well, why would Trump want to risk destroying it?

No surprises. You reap what you sow.

There will be other countries that will gladly pick up the slack that China is trying to retaliate. Liberals and Democrats could care less about the American worker and believe giving into China is just the typical status quo we have to live with. What a bunch of BS. This will hurt China just as well and if it can bring China to the table for talks, then that would be a good thing, but thanks to Trump, this country is not going to whore itself out to China anymore. Trade is always good as long as it's fair trade.

????
I don't know what you mean when you write 'liberals and democrats', but if you’re referring to people who think America’s days as a leading manufacturer are in the rearview mirror and that workers now need help to be job-ready for a different economic era, one that includes lots of high tech including alternative forms of energy, among other 21st century industries, I agree with those you call liberals and democrats. The 1950's produced wonderful art and music, but can never be repeated.
No nation in history has ever been made ‘great’ again by going backward in time.
Reading between the lines I think you mean as long as the US has the upper hand. If trade hasn’t been fair, why have so many US industries been so profitable? Because some industries have failed? If they’ve failed, they’ve most likely failed because of market forces and perhaps poor management.
Wanting your government to control what US industries can do - don’t you call that socialism?

US industry. Trump said car makers in USA are American industry. when he praised Toyota in USA. He does not know a majority of American manufacturers are headquartered in Japan,

Wrong.
Many people do not like the free deal both GoP and Democrats have given China. China has been waging economic war on the U.S. for maybe 30 years with the express permission of U.S. politicians and businesses.
The problem with Trump's sanctions are that they initially focused solely as a broad tariff in order to support basically a dead industry. They are not rational. Many U.S. steel purchasers don't want to buy U.S. steel because of quality issues.
Now, he is narrowing the targets of the tariffs, but they still include countries like Japan. In addition, he is using tariffs as threats to allies like Canada.
Trump could have done much more and more intelligently with respect to China's steel industry. What about China stealing U.S. steel making IP? He could have banned the import or use of steel made with that IP? Obama could have done so too, but the politicians are asleep when it comes to China.

@Sochi: Lawn mowers, golf carts usury has Japanese names. He is upset because TPP. member countries. do not buy Amercan cars. O

OH, yes it will, and Trump is at the front of the line. Most of what he sells (and his family sells) was made in China.
One guarantee with con-men like Trump, they will tell you that you need to do something, and when the facts come out, they are doing the opposite.

He has been urging car makers in USA to export too Asia.

As America has lost all its wars in 72 years, who do they bother starting more?
mukashiyokatta
China 1, USA 0.

China doesn't import as much as the US though
Who won the first Gulf War? Saddam Hussein?
CrazyJoe
Hey pig farmers in Iowa... hows that Trump vote working out for you now?
Iowa-- please be patient. Our perfect leader has all your needs in mind. Only he can fix this problem. It may take his entire 8-year 2-term Presidency but eventually, China will be brought to its knees, and (if you still have a farm) you will be triumphant too! Isn't that great?
There once was a moron named Trump
Who wanted to give exports a jump
So he bad mouthed China
Like he was grabbing a ......
And now his farmers are in a slump
viking68
CrazyJoe, love the limerick.
Trump may have some coal mining jobs for you in W Virginia. But, maybe not since coal is still more expensive than other energy.
Trump may have some steel jobs for you. But, there will be a huge loss of jobs in broad sectors of the economy that use steel and aluminum.
So, maybe you should focus on feeding your family.
Or, grow hemp!! The GOP (led by two Kentucky Senators) wants to provide an exemption to the class 1 status for growing hemp. Why hemp was class 1????

Did Trump and his family drop their manufacturing in China?

Chinese communist leaders were not required to be public elected. Western politicans were required! The political impact caused by trade war will deeply slapped over western politicans but not the Chinese communists! Trump's trade war at China will made those republicans wgo supports him to pay dearly but I think he doesnt cares anyone at all!

High tech involves heavy use of automation. You know full well that training thousands of middle-aged steel workers to work in these kinds of industries is not only infeasible but statistically impossible. There simply aren't enough jobs in these fields in the first place. All you've done is provide some buzzwords about alternative energy and re-training to cover for your actual policy which is selling out manufacturing workers to countries with much lower wages and regulations. It used to be that progressives were against this sort of thing, but sadly modern progressives have become downright neo-liberal. It's amazing to see Trump turn so-called progressives into war hawks and advocates of outsourcing.

Japanese brand name products are made in USA with automation. American. car makers can't. UAW. prohibit automation. machines don't pay union due. All of. Japanese brand name car makers in USA. are not unionized. But Trump got promise from S Korea. that S Korea will import cars from USA. KIA and Hyundai, maybe.

Automated factories employ people who knows how to push on off buttons. Barney Sanders went Canton Mississippi to help low paid Nissan workers Unionization. He found low wage. Nissan offering was $45 an hour and unskilled meant push button technician. He gave up. and left in hurry.
Don't imagine automation means retraining.

Any thing produced by China really needed.

Your original argument, just a short while ago, was that you were against Trump’s tariffs and trade wars. Has that changed?

Until US people stop. eating. Chinese food, trade war will be one sided.

About time some nation stood up to US threats and bullying. Now Japan needs to do the same. For too long too many nations have appeased the US and allowed them to dictate, only to make the US more arrogant and aggressive. Well done China.

China will put tariffs on pork imported from the U. S. This is funny as China now owns one forth of all pork products produced in America that is sold in America and also exported. They will be taxing their own U. S. produced pork.
Among my 40 foot containers of imports I have imported pork to Japan from the U. S. Taxes are heavy for the protection of their pork producers.
I often wonder- those that make wild comments trying to confuse the situation, are they actually engaged in the import of processed food and agricultural products?
With annual huge trade surpluses in China's favor, because of dumping and other unfair trade practices, what would they do to offset these imbalances? Think about it.
Again, all Trump is asking for in East Asia is a fair playing field for truly free trade.

This is just an initial phase. As I've mentioned here before, there are talks about the 20-year China-Boeing deal worth around $1 trillion that could be affected.

China has a $372 billion trade surplus and feel the need to raise tariffs by $3 billion. I got get it. Let’s go another round of tariffs.

A. majority of US farm products in USA. Chinese cultivate in own farms.

Remember the China /US trade war back in Obama,s time? The one over chicken feet.
US poultry producers found a market in China for the little tasty bits (feet and wing tips) that Americans usually just ground up for pet food and by the early 2000s it had grown into quite a large enterprise. Chinese farmers were not happy about the American imports and complained to Beijing that the yanks were underselling the local producers and hurting business. Beijing's response was to impose a 100% tariff on all chicken feet and wing tips from the US. The Obama administration filed a claim with the World Trade Organization against the Chinese move, and won. The Chinese lowered the tariff to 70%.

Because the economy was NOT doing well, that is why the Tax cuts and tariffs were implemented.

Number one economy in the world, and Trump has his people convinced it's not doing well.
Reality disconnect.

Toshiko, what you have to say is a joke, America raises enough farm products to feed it'self and much of the world.

Targeting the farm industry in America is more of a political move, since many farming states are red states that voted for Trump.
