Is this news true?

Like it or not, China produces almost all of the most advanced computer components, electronics, all of the parts (capacitors, resistors, diodes, etc.) for PCB's in the world. NASA is using Chinese parts to go to Mars.

Call it fake news or stolen technology isn't going to make more Americans go to grad school in the sciences and engineering, which are full of Chinese and foreign students at US universities.

Dismiss it at your peril.

It is suspected that the solar panels for the Chinese spacecraft and modules were made by forced labors.

China uses Uyghur forced labour to make solar panels

The first human presence on Mars will be Chinese...

the great world power as it was 500 years ago

But isn't today's PCR more of a world power than Ming ever was?

Yes, but none of the science and technology behind that is Chinese..in parallel they copy/steal the blueprints of these products and in no time you similar Chinese products..

Call it fake news or stolen technology isn't going to make more Americans go to grad school in the sciences and engineering, which are full of Chinese and foreign students at US universities.

Now why are the science streams in the US universities full of Asians, why are Chinese students going to US universities and not Chinese universities..now why is Chine unable to copy the US education system..what's the catch...

3 ( +17 / -14 )

And by that reasoning, will China also?

@Kentarogaijin 1:02pm: - “Be careful US, Rome fell, Byzantium fell, anyone falls !! ..”

Congratulations to the Chinese space team! No matter how you slice it, a successful landing is very difficult and amazing that it worked on their first attempt.

Hoping for a long, successful, mission. Good luck!

"The great mother China will be the great world power as it was 500 years ago and will take revenge for the interventionism and dirty treaties made by force by European powers and the United States"

The mother is aging fast and not producing enough kids. The rich kids leave home with their piggy bank and migrate to the enemy home. Worry about that first instead of competing with the US. This news would evoke yawns at NASA, as the article mentions -

The U.S. has had nine successful landings on Mars since 1976.

14 ( +18 / -4 )

I am not a fan of the Chinese space expeditions for their pursuit of higher political ambitions. However, landing a spacecraft on Mars is a scientific achievement that must be acknowledged!

Congratulations to China, and welcome to Mars!

-7 ( +11 / -18 )

Call them cheaters or copycats or whatever, but they know how to put it together and very soon they will be ahead of everyone, if not already. Landing on Mars is a big feat, no matter what. It will be in the history book, even for a copycat. This is the bare truth.

-9 ( +8 / -17 )

This is a time for cooperation and diplomacy between nations.

1 ( +7 / -6 )

Whether you like China or not, it's an impressive feat nonetheless.

-6 ( +11 / -17 )

Great news

How much stolen technology was used in this program?

How about checking how many Chinese work for NASA?

-12 ( +7 / -19 )

I was worried for a while that maybe the CCP hasn't stolen enough technoligical secrets from NASA to pull this off

14 ( +17 / -3 )

Great job, all for the benefit of the human race

-8 ( +9 / -17 )

By this time next week they will have unearthed an ancient map showing that Mars was originally part of their empire.

17 ( +22 / -5 )

How much stolen technology was used in this program?

actually a lot of of was bought from the Russians, Chinese space suits use modified Russian designs.

love or hate the Chinese still an impressive feat, its catching up to its European and US space agencies fast

-10 ( +7 / -17 )

"How about checking how many Chinese work for NASA?"

Non-US citizens can not work for NASA. If you mean Chinese Americans, a quick search will reveal that only 7-8% NASA employees are AAPI (Asian American or Pacific Islander).

https://www.nasa.gov/offices/odeo/workforce-data

However, this broad AAPI term does not just refer to Chinese-Americans. For example, the mission controller for the NASA Perseverance rover landing earlier this year was Swati Mohan.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Swati_Mohan

I know you would have loved it if it were a Li or Wong, but no, Asians does not just mean Chinese. So to answer your question, no Chinese works for NASA. They just steal from NASA.

"The first human presence on Mars will be Chinese...

*That's right and they deserve to be there***"**

I hope you don't mean that you want to send all the Chinese to Mars right? I mean I can't tolerate the CCP supporters or the racist chauvinists but most of the other Chinese are quite nice if you get to know them.

11 ( +13 / -2 )

Without China, the whole world will collasped into poverty. So many items even in homes of Rich are from China. At least praise their achievement when you haven't done something to be praised for.

-13 ( +3 / -16 )

And that brings us a delicious meal or pays an expensive bill? No? So it’s just stupid and useless.

-2 ( +1 / -3 )

The first human presence on Mars will be Chinese...

That's right and they deserve to be there

The mission, as opposed to a the entire nation? Because if the latter, that's a rather dubious statement. Chinese people are not their garbage government...

No matter what you think or feel, the deed is done and is not to be underestimated.

I often think, what could the USSR be like if it collapsed? Where and who was China in 1980, and where is it compared to Russia now? We have lost our Tao, the Chinese have found it.

-1 ( +2 / -3 )

what could the USSR be like if it collapsed?

Uh, I think it did collapse. Well, in this universe, it did.

2 ( +3 / -1 )

has this been verified, or is it just more ccp propaganda

1 ( +4 / -3 )

Great job, all for the benefit of the human race

All for the CCP, repression and slavery of humans in outer space.

An impressive feat carried out by a horrible regime. Until freedom of thought, speach and action become cornerstones of Chinese life they will remain dangerous both on and off Earth.

1 ( +5 / -4 )

@Kurispisu, no, Mr. Musk's team will be the first humans on Mars.

3 ( +4 / -1 )

Yeah whatever

2 ( +5 / -3 )

The world continues to feed the monster and in a few years the whole world will be eaten.

This is the sad truth. Everyone knows that the CCP is dangerous but have decided that engagement is the best way to deal with them. China is using this naïveté to undermine their first world competitors. Single minded ideological regimes such as China (and Iran for that matter) will not change their goals by economic bribery. It’s sad that world leaders like Biden are incapable of confronting this terrible threat to world peace.

2 ( +6 / -4 )

How much stolen technology was used in this program?

Yep, the wretched Chinese copied everything! They copied steel from Sweden, paper from Rome, gunpowder from Russia, seismographs from Japan, paper money from Wall Street, compass from England, keels from Spain, compartmentalized shipping from Norway, lacquer from Canada. More generally they copied math from USA, horticulture from Australia, astronomy from Austria.

It's high time the nations of the word banded together to demand China stop copying all this most fundamental technology from the rest of the world and demand China pay compensation for stealing all this most fundamental technology. And let's not even start with 5G.

-2 ( +5 / -7 )

How much stolen technology was used in this program?

And don't even mention their theft of tea, chopsticks, umbrellas, moveable type, waterwheel, crossbow, silk, mechanical clocks and etc etc. One could write a book about all the inventions the wretched Chinese have stolen from Western countries, primarily USA.

-2 ( +5 / -7 )

Who will be the first to claim ownership of a part of Mars now ?

0 ( +1 / -1 )

The US is Portugal and China Spain in the new world (Mars). Now build a Millennium Falcon and bring back a cargo of Martian spices.

And by that reasoning, will China also?

@Kentarogaijin 1:02pm: - “Be careful US, Rome fell, Byzantium fell, anyone falls !! ..”

They have fallen many times but the rise and fall cycle is usually several centuries which makes me think the CCP will hold on to its power well into the next century.

-2 ( +1 / -3 )

Everyone knows that the CCP is dangerous

On par with the treacherous Trump administration and the present Trump fan club and it's deadly ideals.

How about checking how many Chinese work for NASA?

Zero. Chinese citizens.

There are a number of Taiwanese immigrants who became US citizens, however. I worked directly with a few. Also French, Israeli, Burmese, Vietnamese, Liberian - naturalized US citizens. The two Burmese people were freakin' brilliant and really nice too.

Of course, there were lots of 2nd generation US citizens from around the world too. The US doesn't hold the child responsible for what a parent does.

-1 ( +2 / -3 )

Mr. Musk's team will be the first humans on Mars.

The first people on Mars will likely die. Yet, they will still choose to go.

The way I see China in space is as a prompt for western countries to do more, better, amazing space science. And China will always have a need to prove to the world they are good enough, so they will also do some great space science.

As long as weapons don't get in the way, this focus is win-win for all sides. Some things can only be learned through trials. Of course, it helps if someone else already accomplished it.

I'd really love it if Chinese rockets didn't drop from the sky, uncontrolled, and hit in populated parts of the world. That's the main complaint.

The other complaint is why does China claim WTO "Developing Nation" status when they have nuclear power, weapons, and a world-class space program? Are they so poor to need that still?

It's another advancement in science and space exploration where everyone benefits. You gotta give credit where credit is due, period.

Congratulations to China! A most impressive accomplishment. I hope to live long enough to see humans land on Mars, knowing that we could have done this decades ago had we the people of Earth not wasted so much of our resources fighting useless wars or destroying ourselves with drugs and other self indulgent pursuits.

3 ( +6 / -3 )

Well, at least we know we won't go hungry on Mars. We'll just head over to the local Chinese restaurant which, apparently, will be there whenever America finally gets around to building a manned expedition...they have, in what is almost a 'first go', matched the technical accomplishments of the United States and seem to have the momentum and energy which America had but has frittered away in endless losing wars of greed-based armed diplomacy. And where would Mankind be in this endeavor if we had all worked together from the beginning? Russia is beginning to see the light getting brighter to their south and, I've read, are entering into co-operation with the Chinese in interplanetary travel. We may want to get on that boat or find ourselves so self-satisfied with killing and supporting the killing of indigenous peoples throughout the world that we don't notice when Mandarin creeps into our schools as 'necessary to land a good job'...

And this is probably not the last surprise that China will be showing us...恭喜你工作出色 [I hope this says "Congratulations on a wonderful job"]

Prove it. Take a photo on the surface with today's headline from JT.

I agree. No pictures from the surface as yet - I'm beginning to smell a rat.

The US Perseverance rover began sending pictures within minutes of landing on Mars. We've had nothing and it's been well over 24 hours. Too much national prestige at stake for failure, methinks.

Quite easy for the Chinese to fake success - relay signals to and from their spacecraft already in orbit around Mars and build a nice 'Hollywood style' Mars set here on Earth.

0 ( +1 / -1 )

I don't believe this is true. It's nothing but space propaganda.

2 ( +3 / -1 )

One could write a book about all the inventions the wretched Chinese have stolen from Western countries, primarily USA.

So this is fake news or unfair because the ‘wretched’ Chinese stole the inventions of chopsticks and tea from the West, mostly The USA.

Am I following you correctly?

Ever heard of sarcasm?

Here is an appropriate definition: Sarcasm is an ironic or satirical remark tempered by humour. Mainly, people use it to say the opposite of what's true to make someone look or feel foolish.

Sometimes themselves. I see.

Cooperation works most and best when there is a shared "other" for competition. Pure cooperation seldom works alone. The competition aspect is absolutely mandatory to achieve the most.

There are examples throughout history. The effort to be 1st is one form. Beating another organization is another form.

Or perhaps that's just my competitive nature?

Competition is human nature. We have sporting events as an outlet to reduce other, undesirable, efforts. Accomplishments in space are another outlet that has been safe, mostly.

What amazes me most about China is its achievement in economy and space technology, vying neck and neck with the U.S.A.

Everything started with Leader Deng Xiaoping's daring policy of "Reform and Open Door" that was struck home in 1978. With it many young Chinese went abroad to study, especially at U.S. universities. I think General Secretary Xi Jinping was one of those young Chinese who studied at an American university

Xi Jinping teaches us a lot that academism can be globalized but not political thoughts and systems.
