Human Rights Watch said the report laid a solid foundation for further U.N. action to establish accountability for the abuses.

CCP Media will soon be out crying western bias, and now how long until the UN investigates treatment of Ukrainian prisoners held in one of Russia's 'camps'.

'May constitute crimes against humanity'? IS.

'Unity Security is fortune, Separation and Turmoil is misfortune'. Oh yeah? Who's doing the separating and causing the turmoil? Who's separating the Uighurs and messing with the Muslims? Talk about calling the kettle black.

The CCP is causing problems and bullying and then plays the projectionism game with the UN.

'Teeeee-chuh! He's the one shooting rubber bands, not me! Oh no, not sweet innocent goody meeeeeee'.

CAN IT, CCP. The whole world knows about your abuses and crap. Don't play innocent. CCP, you suck!!!

Human rights groups renewed calls for the U.N. Human Rights Council, which meets next month, to set up an independent international body to investigate the allegations.

It seems the conclusion was “ has committed” human rights abuses. Wasn’t the UN an independent body?

China outraged that the truth exists outside its bubble of alternate reality.

When you're banning Winnie the Pooh or altering the ending to the Minions film it's pretty fair to say your society has failed.

They just take it when the truth comes out and their hands are dirty. WAH.

Armed civilians patrol

I haven't seen an armed civilian since my time in Londonderry. People have a right to protect but this is the image of a bandit country.

Civilians armed and out in the streets to terrorize the populous. Secret police - whether it's the Gestapo, Tonton Macoute, PINA or Donald Dirtbag's militia thugs are all terrorists and bandits. That's what dictators do. Thugs, murderers, bullies, SCUM.

Genocide is not mentioned. Are they downgrading that to human rights abuses? The quote from the report is “may have committed.”

-3 ( +2 / -5 )

Must be hard being constantly offended and angry China.

Better break out some civet anal gland scent remedy.

3 ( +4 / -1 )

The report doesn’t go far enough but it is a good first step.

9 ( +10 / -1 )

what sam said

8 ( +9 / -1 )

The Chinese government is disgusting

9 ( +10 / -1 )

I would like to see the UN address the similar borderline genocidal treatment of the Tibetans by China and the growing repression of Inner Mongolia.

10 ( +12 / -2 )

I think Ms. Bachelet pulled her punches a bit with the report but as the article mentions she and her staff were under tremendous pressure from all sides.

11 ( +12 / -1 )

Genocide. Elimination of a people and its culture.

Training of Uyghurs: Https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gGYoeJ5U7cQ ... they need to learn how to walk, blind folded, in a line with plenty of guards around, I guess.

Https://theintercept.com/2021/01/29/china-uyghur-muslim-surveillance-police/ is about the CCP-state surveillance of Uyghurs.

There's plenty of proof. The CCP just doesn't like being caught. You'd think they were smarter. Obviously they aren't. Violations like this cannot be hidden in these days of cell phones with cameras.

11 ( +12 / -1 )

More proof that the Chinese government are despicable racists that oppress, rape and imprison ethnic/religious minorities.

The free world should be moving to divest all investment, trade and relations with Communist China. Taiwan should be recognised as a sovereign nation, and be supported militarily by the free world.

Anyone who supports having a relationship with China is an enabler and supporter of genocide, rape and torture, and is a traitor to humanity.

8 ( +12 / -4 )

well no proof just talk.

i have travelled to that area of China some 6 years ago and yes felt gov strong presence thanks to raise of islamic fundamentalism.its not about some human rights from my point of view but about to keep security and unity of country.

USA trying make China weak by sanctions etc by imposing of bans, import tariffs etc etc as fearing that China will replace them as top worlds economy in short period of time/few years max decade?/ so trying anything possible to make China weak.Taiwan "issue",organizing of some activists of any kind fundede from Us funds, organizing some movements...using islamic fundamentalists in area noted in this article...broke China apart.

divide et impera.highly likely yes.

however chinese gov is well aware of it and doing everything possible to minimize impact of this antichinese actions.

The U.N. accused China of serious human rights violations that may amount to “crimes against humanity”

Is this not self-evident if the innumerable reports of abuse, described here by the investigators as being "credible"? If so why do they state that these: "may amount to “crimes against humanity,”" Why "may"????

Like a report matters, China just denies everything.

6 ( +9 / -3 )

The US stooge interviewed 26 Uydgurs and claimed millions were being human right abused. She has never stepped foot in Quantamono Bay, or Abu Guraf.

-15 ( +2 / -17 )

@Eastman,

Xinjiang is 4x the size of California. There's no way China would he dumb enough to put the camps in and around common destination points in Xinjiang. Not saying you aren't incorrect because I've never been there, but I'm willing to bet you haven't traveled the whole region, nor would you be allowed to roam wherever you'd like.

14 ( +15 / -1 )

Ohhh, the UN throwing shade at the CCP! Authoritarians like the CCP get very, very angry when people speak the truth of their atrocities.

Maybe the CCP shouldn't be trying to genocide the Uighurs if they don't like it when people point out that they're trying to genocide the Uighurs. The easiest way to not have your genocide pointed out is to not genocide.

You can pay me consulting fees if you'd like CCP. I'll tell you guys all your mistakes.

9 ( +10 / -1 )

The assessment released late Wednesday concluded that China has committed serious human rights violations under its anti-terrorism and anti-extremism policies and calls for “urgent attention” from the U.N., the world community and China itself to address them.

the UN at least seems to be trying to be objective

It made no mention of genocide, which some countries, including the United States, have accused China of committing in Xinjiang.

1 ( +2 / -1 )

The report seems to be spot-on, but its language is a bit soft.

7 ( +7 / -0 )

China under the CCP is what Germany under the nazis was in the 1930s and 40s. They start with demonizing minorities, move to mass incarceration and then liquidation.

Xi is responsible for more murders than the nazis and needs to be tried at The Hague.

8 ( +10 / -2 )

China has VETO rights....right? So that doesn't matter!

-5 ( +1 / -6 )

My argument is that human rights abuses are always unacceptable, no matter who is inflicting them on whom.

Nope. They are acceptable if done by the US and allies

-10 ( +0 / -10 )

Whenthe US and allies invaded Iraq and were murdering its citizens, for example, people were cheering them on.

Even now it doesn't even occur to most people's minds that it was wrong.

-9 ( +2 / -11 )

Ian - American here and I can confirm that there were many Americans who were cheering on the invasion of Iraq. I can also confirm that there were many of us who were opposed. You do understand that the US, like most countries, is not a monolith, right?

10 ( +10 / -0 )

Like Iraq's wmds , people talk as if the genocide is fact.

Even if this very articke says the UN report made no mention of it

-8 ( +1 / -9 )

I visited Xinjiang when I was in college and found the Uighurs to be the most delightful people, full of a justifiable pride in their unique culture. Genocide in any era is bad - but in the 21st century?! Shame on China.

12 ( +14 / -2 )

Russians rape and murder Ukrainians, while China does the exact same thing to the Uyghur people. 2 sides of the same coin.

9 ( +10 / -1 )

I can also confirm that there were many of us who were opposed. You do understand that the US, like most countries, is not a monolith, right?

When some people point it out some of you do pay lip service , yes.

-5 ( +2 / -7 )

But most just shamelessly carry on

Forced birth control is definitely a genocidal act. Some of the kidnapped female Hispanic children got the same treatment in Trump's concentration camps too. Forced birth control on anybody is a gross crime, doing on a certain category of people is a form of genocide.

Nobody really cares, what White people say about human rights abuse

Right. No human rights abuses in African countries. Except for Cameroon, the Central African Republic, Chad, Ethiopia, Eritrea, Mozambique, Nigeria, South Sudan, Angola, Burundi, Eswatini, Rwanda, Uganda, Zimbabwe ...

Remember the 1994 Rwanda genocide? The Hutu Power fascist dictatorship tried to exterminate the Tutsis, after their ouster they fled to neighboring Zaire and started a chain reaction and domino effect of ethnic wars, mass rapes, abuses, genocides that ravage central and Saharan Africa to this day. Nigeria has been picking on the Ogonis for years. Ethiopia is experiencing an ethnic war in the Tigray. As in the southern Orient, may we mention the crap that has been going on against ethnic minorities in Myanmar since 1962?

5 ( +6 / -1 )

To illustrate that most people are gullible and have double standards

I don’t disagree. A lot of people do seem very willing to forgive their own side’s trespasses. I just wanted to point out that it wasn’t all Americans. Many of us were sickened by what we saw and are opposed to wars of aggression.

7 ( +7 / -0 )

Not only human rights violation by China. It is the wholesale Chinese oppression of a different people for which the proper remedy should be national liberation.

7 ( +8 / -1 )

To keep this in perspective, China was accused of killing Uighurs. Even after the UN report, they came up with "may have committed" and "may constitute crimes against humanity." The jury is still out.

After Hong Kong and Taiwan, the next attempt will be Myanmar. It'll be the military is committing all these rapes and murders and the CCP is backing them. Keep watch on Myanmar.

1 ( +4 / -3 )

As I said before, the CCP does not believe in basic human freedoms. And they want to push their world view on everyone else... which isn't going to work on those who have actually experienced and lived with basic human freedoms.

Charlie Chaplin's "Great Dictator Speech" still resounds loudly today.

"Dictators free themselves, but enslave others!"

9 ( +9 / -0 )

Yes, let's concentrate on China so we can ignore flagrant, unprovoked missile attacks on international airfields in the Mideast by warmongering racists. Torture, if true, is evil but who is better known for TORTURE and outright murder than America and its Mideast parasite? What amazing levels of HYPOCRISY we see when discussing America's rivals... Perhaps when China begins flat out state sponsored Genocide as America has done and is ongoing now in the Mideast by those who shall remain unnamed, we can condemn China in a less dishonest way.

-3 ( +3 / -6 )

Despite the negative headline, the deeper message again seems to be nothing has been found.

-4 ( +1 / -5 )

Anyone who supports having a relationship with China is an enabler and supporter of genocide, rape and torture, and is a traitor to humanity.

If the goal is to feel good about yourself, then perhaps. But breaking relationships with China won't help those who are suffering.

-3 ( +1 / -4 )

Anyone who supports having a relationship with China is an enabler and supporter of genocide, rape and torture, and is a traitor to humanity.

That includes everyone on this board except the 3or 4 that boycott China's products

Genocide is not mentioned. Are they downgrading that to human rights abuses? The quote from the report is “may have committed.”

Ain't no 'may haves' about it. HAVE. DO. And while racially the Uyghurs are the same as the rest of the Chinese, they are an ethnicity in itself along with the Han, Cantonese and others that make up China. that and the Muslim religion (like all of them) is a no-no.

The worst part of it all is this Communist regime does not in the slightest follow the ideals that Marx and Engles wrote about in 'The Communist Manifesto' and other writings. There's never been a true 'communist' society, at least not by that original definition. The CCP would have you think they are but it's all a sham. If they really followed the Marxian principals, they would not be persecuting anyone nor coming up with excuses like this 'counterrevolution activity' crapola.

The CCP just can't handle the truth. They sass off to the UN because they know what they're doing is wrong and the world is watching now. Wah.
