China's national health authorities reported two COVID-19 deaths on Saturday, the first recorded rise in the death toll since January 2021

Seems like China's zero policy has been working, in contrast to and despite what is taking place in Hong Kong.

Stay the course China!

You are assuming that the CCP are truthful with statistics.

China is not very credible on statistics, esp pandemic statistics.

"2" == "200"?

Still better than the US, but at what price? Constant lock downs and nailed-doors-closed for violators.

I keep wondering to myself, with this virus first being identified in China by the Chinese and them being the only remaining nation to still to pursue a zero covid strategy, is there something they know about this disease that the rest dont know?

Does it have to do with knowledge that the mutations will continue and oscillate between being a weaker strain to a stronger strain and the only way to avoid an eventual strain that kills a much higher percentage of those who catch it is to retain a zero covid approach?

I hope my suspicion is wrong. Time will tell.

Agreed. If China has found a way to successfully prevent the spread of Covid, severely limit Covid related deaths, and so on, then good for them. They should continue deploying such methods.
