I think unlike ordinary people, governments and large multinational corporations all over the world believe the Chinese figure because they have enough resources that ordinary people do not have to understand the current situation in China.

In total the number of people working for foreign enterprises is at tens of Millions in China.if China falsely reports the epidemic figures and the virus has Already spread in China, the employees of these foreign enterprises certainly have been infected, that will affect their business and the management of these foreign enterprises will know for sure. But There is almost no reports that multinational corporations employees are infected with the virus these companies are doing great in China now. It’s impossible for so many foreign enterprises to collude with the Chinese to report fake numbers at the same time .In addition, according to statistics, at least 700000 Taiwanese, 100000 Japanese and 50000 Koreans have settled in Shanghai alone. Can you remember any news that there are a large number of Japanese or Taiwanese settled in China infected with the virus?

The thing is that this (lockdowns until testing has shown complete elimination of infection) is what it is well known amongst epidemiologists as the only way to eliminate a moderately (or higher) infectious virus, because it is how smallpox was eliminated.

On the other hand, the pursuit of 'herd immunity' through vaccination is also well known to be a recipe for repeated cycles of deadly outbreaks even with mandatory vaccination laws and regulations and a disease widely dreaded and acknowledged to be significantly fatal, again, because of the decades of failed attempts to eliminate smallpox.

And the folks screaming their hatred of China? Well, like every such group around the world and throughout time, they don't care about facts, they only care about nurturing hate no matter what it costs.
