Yang Maoping said they had no word from Guo or information from police since he was reportedly detained at Shanghai’s Pudong airport Thursday

Another person who is deported or probably dissapeared for good by the so called authoroties.

What a...holes are ruling that country.

I can not understand why some people are still pro-China.

14 ( +16 / -2 )

Why do we keep feeding this country money?

13 ( +15 / -2 )

Reluctantly I am tempted to agree with you there, Ulysses. This news is pretty horrific.

if you ever wonder why China will never be the #1 economy in the world look no further. It is about trust. Nobody will invest in the Chinese stock market or dedicate tons of capitol there because at the blink of an eye the rules change with no explanation. China can not be trusted.

@Dango

On January 24, 2021 the Wall Street Journal reported that China has overtaken the U.S. as the leading destination for Foreign Direct Investment (FDI)

https://www.wsj.com/articles/china-overtakes-u-s-as-worlds-leading-destination-for-foreign-direct-investment-11611511200

I disagree. China will overtake the U.S. sooner than expected. Do I like this? No. But it is a fact. It is also a fact that the rise of China was very much influenced by U.S. (and other nations) greed. If we are not willing to admit this then the problem would never be solved.

Alongside the recent mass arrests of HK citizens leaving for Taiwan, "exodus," which used to be allowed for Chinese dissidents (yet re-entry is banned) is no longer viable.

The CCP may be starting to build a Great Wall along the borders. Just like East German officials on the Berlin Wall, they might want to justify the construction by saying that the wall is meant to protect Chinese citizens from foreign adversaries.

When a "legal rights activists" disappeared in one of the most crontoled countries in the world you can guess there are no legal rights, actually not guess it's pretty obvious. My choice visit China or stick a a large prong into my foot, going for the prong..

IS CCP BIGGEST THREAT TO THE WORLD ?

I think it is definitely one of the biggest threat as we go through the facts china never did nor they will give anyone speech of expression. There own famous and legendary legal right activist is not able to access his own basic rights what do u expect more from China. The famous author Fang Fang who wrote the truth of Wuhan by writing a book named "Story Of Wuhan" he was threaten to life and was forced to shut his book and banned it. and if we look forward about the Covid-19 which was spread by one and only and the Chinese doctor who first warned his government of the coronavirus outbreak but had his claims dismissed has now died of the virus.

@Speed

Why do we keep feeding this country money?

Rhymes with your name - Greed.

Everyone wants access to the good old big market

Everyone wants (wanted) access to the good old cheap and exploited lablr

Tech companies are willing to accomodate and excuse the actions of China to do business there....lot's of cash to be made.

The sellout started by President Nixon in 1971

All countries, the $$$ before eyes made such totalitarian regimes like that in China big and bigger and soon the biggest, and now astonished crying and complaining? Come on, that’s your fault, not the one of those dictatorships, as they haven’t changed and won’t change.

Being stopped when departing Pudong is always one of my greatest fears of visiting China. Or worse, they grab my wife and send me home. It isn't just Chinese who are disappeared this way.

You are a blind extremist. The general opinion in the west was that doing business with the Chinese, and all that person to person contact, would gradually change their society and make it more democratic. After all, that same tactic worked for Taiwan and South Korea, both of which were as harshly governed as China into the late 1980s. Up until 2013 when Xi Jinping became CCP General Secretary and PRC President, China was indeed changing and changing for the better. When Hu Jintao held those positions there were serious discussions of allowing private ownership of land and there were experiments with competitive elections at a local level in some communities. The Chinese economy was mostly capitalistic and the CCP leadership of the time was pushing further in that direction. Under Hu, China could discuss the Cultural Revolution and it was taught in many schools. All of that changed when Xi Jinping came to power. Unlike Hu and Jiang Zemin, Xi is a Communist true believer and Maoist hard liner. All discussions of the Cultural Revolution are now banned and the last university to teach about it, Fudan University, is under heavy pressure not to teach it (there have been protests there over CCP attempts to re-write the schools charter to eliminate any mention of free thought, replaced with Communist weasel words). Xi favors state owned industries and private enterprise is under increasing government control. He has resurrected mandatory party indoctrination sessions, which has not been accepted by the many party members who are business people and who resent the degree of party control of their livelihood Xi has imposed. The clash between Jack Ma and the CCP is just the most visible manifestation of how Xi has made a great many wealthy or politically connected Chinese fear for their very lives. Xi has enemies inside the CCP. Do not doubt this, but Xi has shown himself to be as ruthless as Mao and as a result fear is replacing entrepeneurial spirit among their business people.

It's sort of a joke to talk about rights or expressions in China. It is completely prohibited in China to go against the Communist Party or question the CCP in any way. This is why, as he used to advocate for those who opposed the CCP in China, Guo Feixiong was made to disappear. A few days ago, the disappearance of 'Jack Ma' and now the disappearance of Guo Feixiong demonstrate how bad freedom of speech is in China. At the same time, it is also obvious what can happen to someone while speaking against the CCP in China, whether it is a celebrity or a common man.

I have news for all of you Russia is China biggest ally but Russia after Putin will go after China. Russia keeps a strong eye on China like it or not Russia see's China as a threat this is a known fact but not in the media and Putin knows that.

I can not understand why some people are still pro-China.

Because there is a middle class in China now and things have gotten better the last 20 yrs until the bump in 2020 from COVID. When your horse is winning, knowing when to get off is very difficult. Plus, the CCP-Chinese govt isn't afraid to use intimidation, bullying, thugs, police actions and their military against their own citizens just for wrong-speak or having distant relatives who previously caused problems for the govt.

Uyghurs Chinese Police DB leaked shows how deep the surveillance is:

https://theintercept.com/2021/01/29/china-uyghur-muslim-surveillance-police/ They collect millions of texts, phone contacts, call records, banking and e-commerce, then use AI to decide who needs extra “control and monitoring” by a trusted cadre member. These cadre members visit the homes of Chinese citizens.

The huge data center built in Utah last decade was not built only to go after those "foreign terrorists".

The surveillance is terrifying and unprecedented in human history. Also unprecedented is that, for the first time, there is no promised land to escape to. Nobody can flee to a kind of America or Australia anymore. People will be stuck.

The Biden regime is issuing executive orders so fast they are giving the China’s and Russia’s of the world a strong challenge for the title of greatest threat to Democracy.

You must be confused. Americans voted out your proto-authoritarian in a landslide.

True. Alas, our globalist elites like make money by transferring jobs to China, and are quite happy with the Chinese model of censorship. As you see demonstrated by big techn, the swamp politicians, and the fake corporate media. The US had started to reverse that, but now it is back to the not-so-good swamp days again.

The solution to the trade imbalance is to run budget surpluses. After a very nasty trade dispute with Japan in the 1990s with strong similarities to the current trade disputes between the US and China, the Clinton Administration and Congress came to understand that selling debt to one's trade partners, done originally to help them grow and prosper as a bulwark against the USSR, was a two edged sword that gave those same trade partners a more or less permanent advantage in trade with the US. I have written about this fact here many times. For those who like to claim the US cannot run a balanced budget without doing catastrophic damage to the nation I'll remind everyone the US ran balanced budgets in 1999 and 2000, however Federal Revenues as a proportion of GDP was close to 20% where it is around 16% today. If you notice despite all the tariffs and hate directed at US trade partners the past four years, the overall US trade deficit has risen to record highs. Why? Well, the Republicans cut taxes and increased the budget deficit.

To be clear, there are times when a nation has to deficit spend to get out of a depression. Increasing government spending increases GDP and has a multiplier effect as the objects of government spending spend the money again on goods and services, which further increases GDP. What the US seems incapable of is paying down its debt. When growth resumes, taxes need to rise to pay the debt down, but too often politicians see the increase in revenues created by economic growth even without a rate increase, and rather than pay the debt down call for a tax cut. That is exactly what happened in 2001. First two years of balanced budgets since the Eisenhower years and the prospect of paying the debt down, but the Repubs threw it away to cut taxes and run the debt up. Stupid. Now we are in a dire emergency where deficit spending is highly appropriate but two years from now the discussion better be one of raising taxes and balancing the budget. Do that for a decade and you will see the trade deficit cut massively without resort to tariffs or insulting America's allies.

China, unless it is brought to heel, has every intention of treating the rest of the world the way it does its own people - guilty until proven otherwise.

Most likely and sadly it is adios to Guo Feixiong.

@commanteer - I cannot speak for other countries however I can say as an American that the U.S. is certainly working to catch up on this one (and has been for some time now). The huge data center built in Utah last decade was not built only to go after those "foreign terrorists".
