A totalitarian dictatorship and concepts like transparency and respect for international law don't mix.

An absent of "Transparency and respect for domestic laws" is like the Trump administration! Mueller will let the world knows his findings, one day!

There is more behind the scenes than what is made public. That is the nature of politics and especially of policing and security issues and organizations and their personnel.

Interpol a policing organization has limited enforcement ability, but much investigative and coordinating ability and power on an international scale and level.

Not sure if international laws may and can apply to all countries and also be enforced. However its investigative ability definitely affects each and every country and individual., It is the "information", "the data" that can be "shared" internationally can be a problem for any rogue or nonparticipating country.

This may be a case where, certain sensitive information regarding China and some of its political members have been identified as being of interest to China or to the international policing community.

But then it is anyone's guess.

It may even be a situation where he has "information" on other international figures that China wants to get out from him and use.

Exactly. That said, China is relatively free to do what it wants within its borders because it's a sovereign state..

I bet a confession will be coming, true or not. Could easily be a political hatchet job. Or he might be corrupt.
