“I will make no apologies that we are investing to make America strong. Investing in American innovation, in industries that will define the future, and that China’s government is intent on dominating," he said.

And some people say that Biden isn't tough on China.

China does not fear competing with the U.S. but is “opposed to defining the entire China-U.S. relationship in terms of competition,” Foreign Ministry spokesperson Mao Ning said at a daily briefing Wednesday.

China being coy but there are probably policy wonks there reading Thucydides and know of the theory of hegemonic war.

Biden has people whispering in his ear too.

Hopefully more serious conflict can be avoided.

And some people say that Biden isn't tough on China.

A speech condemning China wouldn’t strike someone as being tough, but still, the rant ticked them off so at least on that small note it made me smile.

Is China beginning to sound and act more and more like North Korea?

China smeared itself with their lies and cunning actions. It's time for the world to see what China represents. It is the bully of Asia run by a tyrant who his No1 enemy is Winny the Pooh.

Why was Biden suddenly shouting, “Name me a world leaderwho can change places with Xi Jinping. Name me one! Name me one!” ?

They still haven’t explained why Montana’s weather is so interesting to them... today it’s cold, tomorrow it will be cold, the day after that.... Anyway, they could have just watched one of the weather channels and saved a lot of time and money.

Hahaha!! Exactly!

Is China beginning to sound and act more and more like North Korea?

Ever since that Xi-male took over they've been 2 cheeks of the same A$$

China smeared itself with their lies and cunning actions. It's time for the world to see what China represents. It is the bully of Asia run by a tyrant who his No1 enemy is Winny the Pooh.

Why was Biden suddenly shouting, “Name me a world leader who can change places with Xi Jinping. Name me one! Name me one!” ?

Well, we all know who would like be Xi Jinping, and that's Trump. He would love to be an authoritarian leader. That's what Biden was getting the audience to conclude.

7 ( +10 / -3 )

I actually have to side with Biden, that he did not smear China.

In fact, he barely mentioned them.

The entire theme of the State of the Union speech should have been about China but Biden was obviously nervous about genuinely upsetting the CCP. It was an embarrassingly weak display of what should have been strong leadership.

The biggest statement of the day about the whole matter was made by MGT as she carried the white balloon.

Pure genius with that double entendre.

So is Biden a warmonger today or not? You seem confused again.

So is Biden a warmonger today or not? You seem confused again.

Yeah, these issues can be difficult to understand when you are not a US citizen, and you try and recirculate headline news.

Maybe you should do more background research or something?

-16 ( +2 / -18 )

Oh dear, China shedding crocodile tears that old Uncle Joe had the temerity to smear the Chinese...... how sad.

What Biden should have been telling then in his shouty inimitable style, is that China has caused immeasurable damage to the rest of the world by unleashing their Chinavirus which has killed more than 6.5 million people and infected over 3 billion people worldwide so far.

Then he should have mentioned the genocide of the Uighur people and the enslavement of their younger generation in cotton-production camps. Oh, and their total extinguishment of any hint of democracy in Hong Kong.

And the forced detention of 900,000 children in Tibet, who are currently undergoing Sinocisation.

Plus the 11 separate international disputes with which they are currently embroiled.

That's the sort of rap-sheet he should have hit them with, a clear characterisation of the totally repressive fascist regime which China represents to the world today.

13 ( +15 / -2 )

Biden mentioned China six times without any smears.

That makes no sense. The 'Union' means United States; so it's a speech about the state of the US. US foreign policy is part of that, and the US's relationship with China, is part of foreign policy. So considering that, it got the amount of coverage that it deserved.

but Biden was obviously nervous about genuinely upsetting the CCP.

I think he got the balance exactly right, and obviously he did upset China somewhat, which bears this out.

It makes sense, as you explain yourself below.

Right, but it was barely mentioned. I watched it live.

But hey--no surprise--to you "it got the amount of coverage that it deserved"!

I think he got the balance exactly right, and obviously he did upset China somewhat, which bears this out.

No you don't think that, and you know it.

-16 ( +0 / -16 )

The entire theme of the State of the Union speech should have been about China

Why? There is a whole lot more to the US than relations with China. They don't define what the US is nor do them define the state of the union.

I want to believe Biden so bad, but I can’t considering news was just released by the Baltimore Sun that schools in Maryland cannot do math at grade level. In fact, it’s being reported that in 23 schools in Baltimore failed to produce one student who could do math at grade level. That’s right, zero. So I find it interesting that Biden would say such a thing when China is clearly beating the socks off of the USA when it comes to education: one of the main ingredients that lead innovation and industries that will define the future; the other one being talent. Maybe the USA should tone down the gender ideology and activist indoctrination that currently fills its public school system’s curriculum and instead teach kids math and science and reading and how to operate a computer like they do in China before Biden decides to make such a bold claim

I don't think you have any hands on with graduates of the Chinese educational system. They are not smarter or better educated than American kids. In most ways the education in China is inferior. They maybe only do math better but their universities are no where near the caliber of the best western universities. My wife passed her entrance exams in China but her family didn't have the money to pay admissions the bribes necessary to get the classes she needed nor did they have anything close to the amount of money needed to pay professors for a passing grade. That is how it works in big Chinese universities, as it does in much of Chinese society. The "red envelope" is what gets things done. Not merit, but money. She earned a BSEE from an American university, but she has a very poor understanding of world history, never read anything by any of the great philosophers because most of their writings are banned in China, has zero understanding of how elected government works, was never taught about the Holocaust or any of the wars in the Middle East. But yeah she is fantastic at math. But the rest of her family never matriculated any college, again for lack of money for the required red envelopes and you find if you spend time there most Chinese are no better or worse educated than most Americans.

you said Biden was in the pockets of China.

9 ( +11 / -2 )

The worst propaganda is always coming from the West. They will bring up anything to smear China without any proof whatsoever. You can see from most Western media that they immediately labeled the balloon as “Spy balloon” even before it was proven to be so. This is what they called “disinformation” and those media should be ashamed. All sorts of stories were made up to colour the balloon in order to attack China. Politics always come first in the West, even before life itself like in the case of deaths from Covid. Some of you might notice that the US used F22 to bring down a balloon! Really dramatic, just like using a grenade to kill a fly. Can anyone predict what story will come up next to smear China, this is going on constantly. However, I notice from reading comments from various Western media, more and more people are getting tired of this and have come to realize this type of propaganda to discredit China is just fake news.

Biden is no more weak on China than Trump was. They are the same.

5 ( +8 / -3 )

However, he also warned that “if China threatens our sovereignty, we will act to protect our country," a pointed reference to the shooting down on Saturday of a suspected Chinese spy balloon that had traversed the continental United States.

I'm sure the CCP is scared by those words, especially after they took a virtual tour over mainland America and its military installations and nuclear missile silos.

Hilarious.

So China gets photographs and videos of US military installations and sites of nuclear missile silos, images of restricted air space areas, and everything else under the clouds from Montana to South Carolina, but it was a big win for Biden because the US got a deflated ballon and smashed up pieces of a surveillance device.

No, Trump pissed China off by calling them out, mocking them, threatening them, and them sanctioning them.

Hmmm.....some threats....ROFL...

“He’s now president for life, president for life. And he’s great,” Trump said, according to audio of excerpts of Trump’s remarks at a closed-door fundraiser in Florida aired by CNN. “And look, he was able to do that. I think it’s great.

Trump praised Xi as “a great gentleman” and added: “He’s the most powerful (Chinese) president in a hundred years.” Trump said Xi had treated him “tremendously well” during his visit in November.

Trump told The New York Times in December that because of North Korea he had “been soft on China because the only thing more important to me than trade is war.”

I have only one criticism of Biden's speech - he didn't dwell enough on crimes against our children....

He should have highlighted this;

Former President Donald Trump escalated his attacks on Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis Tuesday, seizing on a story that his rival for the 2024 Republican presidential nomination partied with underage students when he worked as a teacher at a Georgia high school.

In five successive posts Tuesday to his social media site, Truth Social, Trump went after DeSantis. Two of them referenced a story published by the far-right website Hillreporter.com that claimed DeSantis had been photographed "partying with underaged students" at the Darlington School, a private K-12 school in Rome, Ga., where DeSantis taught from 2001-02. The image showed what appeared to be DeSantis flanked by three young women that had been captioned, "Here is Ron DeSanctimonious grooming high school girls with alcohol as a teacher."

Even Kevin is not admitting the Repubs got played at the SOTU;

House Speaker Kevin McCarthy admitted Wednesday that Republicans “took the bait” by allowing President Biden to turn GOP heckling at his State of the Union address into political gold.

The powerful California Republican said Biden effectively used the outbursts by Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-Ga.) and other far-right-wingers to win over Americans watching at home.

“The one thing we need to be is, we need to be smart,” McCarthy told Fox News the morning after the widely praised performance by Biden. “Don’t take the bait, stay with the American public about what we want to do.”

The Chinese didn't get much of anything useful from their floating hemorrhoid because it was being jammed. If anyone here has followed events at Area 51 over the past couple of decades you know the US has for a very long time had the means to distort optical systems. People would go to this one ridge on the base perimeter with the longest lenses made and their images always came back highly distorted. The US is also pretty adept and jamming communications. I sincerely doubt China learned much from their floating hemorrhoid that they didn't already know from their low Earth orbit satellites. About all they accomplished was to make themselves look bad.

8 ( +8 / -0 )

“I’ve made clear with President Xi that we seek competition, not conflict," Biden said.

Yeah, but you seek money from China too, and you keep spending money that you don’t have.

The US Secretary of the Treasury, Yellen, recently urged China to increase the US debt holding. She didn’t ask Japan even though Japan has reduced more US debt holding than China.

We know Japan will continue to be in a recession and the EU will have little growth for 2023. The only country with some borrowing room is China (IMF growth forecast: 5.2%), which explains Yellen's question.

Yellen can't convince US vassals like Japan, the UK, Belgium, Luxembourg, etc, to hold additional US debts when US debt was skyrocketing last year but asks the number one enemy- China, with whom there is an ongoing Cold War?

China’s statements basically say, WTF?! You want us to lend you money but place sanctions and fight trade wars against us?

The Biden administration can't even fix domestic inflation right now and needs to borrow money from China before it has the strength to go to war with China. That’s how silly the administration is.

The Treasury department defaulting on the US debt as the current budget ceiling negotiation stalls would result in a severe financial crisis for the already Covid-19 stressed global financial system.

Meanwhile, China will keep converting surplus dollars into gold to be prepared for the next financial catastrophe brought on by the failed US budgetary process.

If either party wants to end illegal immigration make passing eVerify mandatory for all employees. Yes the data base probably has some errors. Fix them. Make eVerify mandatory. Remove the demand for illegal labor and the rush to the border, and visa overstays, will quickly disappear. But please notice who opposes mandatory use of eVerify most, big business and agriculture. Tackle that. All the noise at the border is just that, noise. You will never seal the US border and you will never stop visa overstays by technical means. Remove the demand for illegal alien labor and the problem will go away.

But Joe--as an American--next time can you maybe stop these known intrusions sooner?

Bingo!

My, my....Gov Sarah Sanders SOTU speech is getting panned....must be the Dems; Hillary, Nancy, Schiff....

Woops, nope not them...

*That speech, I thought that speech was terrible. It goes into the wokeism, and that’s all interesting. But you gotta get to the heart of the matter. The heart of the matter is the debt ceiling, the CCP. If you’re gonna give a counter speech, you gotta talk about important issues.*

*Don’t get me wrong. The wokeism is very important. But it’s not quite the heart of the matter right now, right? It’s not the heart of the matter. She is not–and the reason is she’s just not–*she’s not intellectually capable of going to the heart of the matter, right? Let’s be blunt.

Quite an imagination. Amazing!

Quite simply the truth is that China was spying on the US with these balloons.

The evidence is just being released

My favorite part of the SOTU speech was when Repub MTG stood up and yelled "Liar!"...

And Repub George Santos stood up and yelled; Yes - I'm over here!...

Sure. But why is it news? They have been spying on the US for years with satellites.

Sarah Sanders is a groundbreaker.

First female governor of Arkansas.

Meanwhile, the Democrats can't define what a "female" is.

Quite an imagination. Amazing!

I shudder to imagine all the intel China collected on the US.

It is amazing, I agree.

You know why. It's silly to downplay it.

But they got a more detailed look and a long, almost a week before Joe did something.

Yes, I do.

You’re posturing for your team. It’s BS.

I don’t have a team.

I don't. Because they have been doing it for a long time, the intelligence services no how to hide things.

I honestly have no idea why people think a balloon that is collecting intel on stuff that they are already collecting intel with satellites, is a story. Explain that to me.
