How about the rest of us encircling Taiwan now to demonstrate defensive capabilities? China will spit the dummy then.

Serious whining more like.

Screw the pooh bear dictator. Bullies need a smack in the gob.

13 ( +16 / -3 )

Un wise saber rattling...I'm sure the whole exercise was under US surveillance and is undergoing analysis both strategic/tactical and logistic - sorta like playing your hand before necessary -

The Russians are getting their asses handed to them in an aysmmetic war without a sea involved...

pretty dumb...

Taiwan is a democratic country...It doesn't have vast natural resources - it has earth quakes -

Foolish pride on the part of the main-land and if acted on would likely destroy China as a country economically The sanction on Russia would be a joke compare to what would happen to China

12 ( +16 / -4 )

Lashing out at Taiwan has been used by Zhongnanhai for decades to distract from domestic problems - and the PRC has a whole lotta 'em.

11 ( +14 / -3 )

Paid by your Alibaba and Temu dollars.

6 ( +8 / -2 )

China is acting like a warmongering fascist. Leave the people of Taiwan alone. They are no threat to China.

9 ( +13 / -4 )

We are an independent country already and we call ourselves the Republic of China, Taiwan.

But, we, as in the U.S. "allies", call them "Taiwan, province of China". There are tree options here:

(1) One China = ROC

(2) One China = PRC

(3) Two China

The quote above seems to acknowledge option (3). In which case they will have to rewrite their constitution, as that is based on option (1). So, everyone, let's choose, and let's stick to it. But only one of them, not two at the same time!

-4 ( +2 / -6 )

Bring on WWIII.

You're already backing Russia in Ukraine.

Somehow you're going to mediate the two from conflict while you threaten to start your a

"Limited Action" of your own.

It's all just a matter of time.

-1 ( +5 / -6 )

You don't say!

Reminds us of Putin and his troop buildup outside Ukraine starting in Nov. 2021.

Taiwan's ANOTHER terrible proxy fight for the US, no matter how well armed, trained and supported, exactly Ukraine, another failed state an almost CERTAINTY.

Only this time not just energy and food/fertilizers, semiconductor economic influence HUGE, Taiwan the largest producer by far, naturally most great IP and design done elsewhere, but chip foundries are THERE.

-18 ( +0 / -18 )

One must understand China's NOT simply being defensive or reactive regarding Taiwan, they've set in motion massive Mid-East proxy war that's escalating rapidly, they've brought Suni and Shia together in reproachment, Turkey's on board, unprecedented weapons proliferation to Iran from Russia.

That's POWDER KEG, President Xi has the 'match' and Iran and Russia have LOTS of proxy fighters in Mid East, only now they're all state supported "mercenaries", no more radical jihadists needed!

-8 ( +1 / -9 )

SO, US and global elitists running 1600 best think twice about proxy war in Taiwan, everybody's seen destruction and total avoidable failures of Afghanistan and Ukraine, not to mention massive global starvation due to food inflation and poor crop yields subsequently and accelerating right now.

Add no semi-conductors to above and global inflation ravaged banking crisis will go from BAD to DEPRESSION

-14 ( +1 / -15 )

Big mouthed saber rattling, not more. If it really was that easy they had already extended the maneuvers to the real attempt, like the Russians widely unexpectedly did when moving troops and holding maneuvers in western part of Russia then turning it into invasion of Ukraine.

5 ( +6 / -1 )

Agreed, Chinese saber rattling's in this form's total cancer for Taiwan, no belief/going concern, so they win tactically.

Capital and population flight out of Taiwan continues, most to US naturally, potential proxy war benefits US as well you see, that may be the real agenda after all.

Like fancy lifeboats on the Titanic.

It is a necessary action to defend national sovereignty and territorial integrity,” she said.

Neither of which are being threatened in any way shape or form by anyone.

China claims Taiwan as its own territory to be brought under its control by force if necessary and regularly sends ships and warplanes into airspace and waters near the island.

China has been harping on about Taiwan for many years. The simple fact is, when the dust from the rebellion settled, the nationalist government and forces had Taiwan and the rebel forces had the mainland. There was no surrender given by either side. Now the communist party wants to restart the war after 70+ years because it still harbors a grudge against them.

A country that wants to be a world leader, leading the way to invading another nation and annexing it to expand its territory. Just like Russia is attempting to do in Ukraine. Great example for other nations that covet their neighbors land. China will never ever be a world leader under any CCP government. They have no idea how to lead in any way other than clumsy warmongering border expanding behavior, again, the same as Russia. Both are pathetic.

10 ( +11 / -1 )

Ever since China slid towards the Hard-Left of politics, it's been on a downward spiral. When will people ever learn?

4 ( +7 / -3 )

The cost of attacking Taiwan for China, in both people and armaments, will be immense. Like Russia's war against Ukraine, a war against Taiwan would be highly illogical. The problem is that dictators are not swayed by logic. Xi wants to go down in history as "Xi the Great," not as President Xi.

7 ( +10 / -3 )

If China actually invades Taiwan, it will not be a proxy war. The sole purpose of China's fixation on taking Taiwan is to complete breaking the First Island Chain. A necessity for the PLA Navy to get out into the Pacific to challenge the United States. The nationalist hard liners in the Chinese PLA are hell bent on a war with the West.

7 ( +9 / -2 )

“It is a necessary action to defend national sovereignty and territorial integrity,” she said.

Taiwan isn't threatening to invade the CCP-China land.

Taiwan has never been part of CCP-China.

Any more questions? These FACTS are trivially proven.

Will China invade Singapore next? After, there are ethic Chinese there too.

When does it stop?

Will they invade China-Towns around the world, especially in Africa and the middle east?

Is that how far the CCP racism goes?

6 ( +6 / -0 )

Who is "us"?

The nationalist hard liners in the Chinese PLA are hell bent on a war with the West.

What utter nonsense. Of course even the most fanatical lackeys of US empire don't believe even though they say it. The Chinese economy is growing strongly and still has more than the population of the US to bring into the working class before the contradictions of capitalist economy start to strange the economy. Capitalist economy has the US, Japan and Western Europe gasping for air and it's only getting worse. Which is why they are the crazed warmongers.

Like since the revolution of 1949? Turning reality on it's head! It's frightening how easily people are manipulated.

”Hard-Left”???

Are you not aware that China is a COMMUNIST-ruled state?

Clay, a Chinese invasion of Taiwan would not be a proxy war. There would be direct US involvement on a massive scale. It would be an unrestricted total war between the US and China. From the perspective of a former US Navy officer that has never been in doubt. The Navy at least was preparing for the last 15 years or more for that possibility while hoping to have enough of a force structure and advanced systems to deter the Chinese from starting that war.

It's a fair comment. Xi Jinping's predecessors were not doctrinaire Maoist-Leninists like Xi is. Unlike under Mao decision making even at the highest levels was by consensus. There was great regional autonomy that permitted economic experimentation. Much of the party's orthodoxy was dropped in favor of growing wealth. There was power sharing between the two competing factions within the CCP, the "Shanghai Gang" led by Jiang Zemin and the Communist Youth League faction led by Hu Jintao. Xi by comparison has destroyed both of these factions and removed their leaders from power while consolidating all decision making in his hands. Regional autonomy is a thing of the past as well. Everything now requires approval from Xi. Party members are forced to attended monthly indoctrination sessions. Prior to Xi the party was more of a networking opportunity for business owners and pretty much a millionaires club. Under Xi every business, even western owned one, must have a CCP cell within and the CCP cell can tell management what to do. Xi is turning the clock back to the bad old days of Mao. It's very much a turn to the hard left.

A warning to what? Stop meeting with US leaders? I believe China can take its belligerent self and stuff it.

Nonsense that the PRC is hell bent on war someday regardless of what Taiwan does? The PRC says all of the time time that Taiwan must be absorbed and their patience isn't infinite.

The Chinese economy is growing strongly and still has more than the population of the US to bring into the working class before the contradictions of capitalist economy start to strange the economy. Capitalist economy has the US, Japan and Western Europe gasping for air and it's only getting worse.

US per capita gdp is 3.5 times that of China. What are the odds that China reaches Japan style stagnation from not having immigration before then? Companies are already going places cheaper for manufacturing. Of course if China starts WW3 it is going to set them back considerably more...

Which is why they are the crazed warmongers.

Non sequitur = it does not follow

So, would American and Japanese troops landing on Taipei in response to China attacking its breakaway province constitute an 'illegal, unprovoked, brutal invasion of China'?

-1 ( +0 / -1 )

China’s military simulated precision strikes against Taiwan in a second day of drills around the island on Sunday, with the island’s Defence Ministry reporting multiple air force sorties and that it was monitoring China’s missile forces.

China, which claims democratically governed Taiwan as its own territory, began three days of military exercises around the island on Saturday, the day after Taiwan President Tsai Ing-wen returned from a brief visit to the United States.

China is a fascist state same as Russia and should be tread equally. Stop all trade with China!!!

Could be, but I suspect the sinking of blockading ships will be more of an affront to the PRC.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

TaipeiIsChina, do you think that the destruction of the ships, airplanes, and military bases participating in the US led efforts to sink China's ships will be described as 'self defense'?

You can call it whatever you want, it still will cause such destruction of the PRC that it is going to make a burnt out Formosa look like a pretty silly prize.

Ever since China slid towards the Hard-Left of politics, it's been on a downward spiral. When will people ever learn?

Americans are probably the biggest reason for needing a change to the left, right wording of politics, as they just throw everything in the same basked thinking one thing leads to another. The most free and happiest countries in the world are left governed social democracies. What ever countries such as China, Russia, North Korea are doing is the total opposite of the main definition of the word left leaning, but since they get recognized as communist, they get put in the left corner. In reality it's more of a fascist dictatorship mixed with controlled capitalism, way closer to the right than to the left.

The countries themselves will just use what ever word that enables them to control their people so the elite can get rich and stay in power. The definition of the left is wanting less status and class differences between people and more equality. There is of course extreme variants such as Communism, but I don't think there is currently any true communist country, Those that are labeled as such, China for example definitely isn't a classless society, more towards the opposite.
