China shot down a balloon a few years ago and claimed it was from the US. On CCP state media, "crushed the enemy in a heroic move" was the way they described their shoot-down.

If the USGovt was flying balloons over China without permission, then they should be shot down.

I suspect what is really happening is that China is confusing their all-govt balloon programs with the way everything works in the USA where most stuff is not USGovt related and the govt knows very little about it.

If a university in the US puts up a balloon, they only need to call the FAA to get approval for their expected flight time. There are regulations about the size of the payload and that it cannot use RF while in the air. I can put up a high altitude balloon with very little red tape, provided I follow the rules and it isn't in commonly used aircraft routes. For heavier payloads and larger balloons, there is more paperwork and approvals, but for very light payloads, it really is minimal.

Now China says that more than 10 balloons have flown over its land in the past couple of years and they didn't do anything or say anything until now . . . that sounds rather doubtful. If something foreign had floated over China, does anybody really believe that China would just sit there and say, "Well, whadayaknow! Look at that suspicious balloon going by!" And then do nothing? Highly doubtful.

China is obviously full of hot air. There isn't a chance in hell, that given an opportunity to take down a US asset over Chinese airspace and make a big stink about it to smear America, they woudn't do it.

Suddenly China accuses the US after the US alleged Chinese Spy Balloons. Where were you sleeping, my friend? You should have informed the world about it. But, no because you started this .....

Nobody will remember the balloon incident 6 weeks later!
