“The U.S. frequently dispatches ships and planes to operate in seas and airspace near China, promoting regional militarization and threatening regional peace and stability," Wu said at a monthly briefing held virtually.

International waters near China

Read that the concrete on some of their phony islands was breaking down and the whole island could sink with a typhoon.

That's funny coming from China...

China has been building hundreds of 300-500 ton displacement fishing vessels and having those ships work in the disputed areas. These ships are subsidized provided they fish near disputed islands. When non-Chinese coast guard vessels show up in the disputed areas, Chinese fishing ships block the smaller coast guard ships from witnessing anything illegal.

More on this story: https://warontherocks.com/2021/04/xi-likes-big-boats-coming-soon-to-a-reef-near-you/ It has a great photo at the top to provide an idea about the size of these Chinese ships.

The only real way to counter is with warships and there are few countries in the region with warships which can counter the Chinese. If China would work with neighboring countries better, the US wouldn't be there.

The ocean is big. Certainly there is room for many large ships.

This must just be propaganda given Biden is in China’s pocket. Ain’t that correct, Trump fans?

This has to be true given Biden is a warmonger. Ain’t that correct, Trump fans?

This is different, the US is taking a justified and purely defensive posture, this is not about the Middle East where the US has the option of being energy dependent, because of Washington politics and back deal handshakes with corrupt leaders decides to set roots in countries we’re not wanted and don’t need to be there to fight wars with the locals unnecessarily or engage in nation building.

China basically lays claim to 90% of the South China Sea. China’s abuse and misapplication of international law it doesn’t, so this is not warmongering, this is about the right to sail through international waters and China doesn’t own and can’t claim it.

The superstates at each others throats, again.

Vile.

2 ( +5 / -3 )

Really??!!! I wander why??? Is it in anyway possible that it is a cause and effect reaction to China's military aggression towards Taiwan and the entire South China sea area???

9 ( +12 / -3 )

How wrong can you be. It's only directed at the regional bully. Our bad...

China says U.S. increasing military activity directed at it

Good. The US and Asia need to respond to China's "inch by inch" policy, and it needs to start now.

So, this is Biden being tough on China, correct?

This would be expected of every President past or present and they all defied China on this for years. So I would call it more like defiance over being tough. Now China wanting to take on Taiwan or Japan and the US standing up to them and giving them an affirmation of no, you’re not is showing strength.

So, Biden is showing strength towards China, correct?

I already answered.

Everybody in the Pacific Ocean is making money. Apparently China isn’t happy about that because it wants to restrict the air and waterways. Stand together unitedly against the bully.

Go home China, you're drunk

Do not buy anything Made in China, do not sell them any raw materials, withdraw all your employees who are not members of the CCP while they are free to leave.

Sides have already been chosen time to get your tools out and sharpen up your skills.

Yes, you did answer. You said implied this was Biden showing strength towards China.

I never said that, this is exactly what I’m talking about when it comes to the left. Smh….Once again, I said: So I would call it more like defiance over being tough.

how do you square that with your belief that Biden is in China’s pocket?

For one thing, Biden will never take an aggressive tone or do anything to agitate the Chinese, a country that is even more of a threat geopolitically, domestically, he won’t, Trump did. Even Schumer applauded Trump for being tough on China and if that guy can admit whereas no Democrat will shows that even this guy couldn’t lie what was the obvious truth. He’s not doing it to Biden because he knows he won’t and can’t.

China must be stopped. Trump realised that and acted on it and Biden is following through on it. Great.

China is a bully and must be stopped now. I agree with other posters. Don’t buy anything made in China, cocoon them back in their territory. Leave not only china but also Hongkong while you still can.

bass: For one thing, Biden will never take an aggressive tone or do anything to agitate the Chinese

If only there were an article that quoted Chinese officials saying the opposite.

Guess we will have to wait.

This always happens. The right can’t square their circle of Biden being weak while being a warmonger and so we get a word salad.

Just spell it out clearly. What practical steps should Biden take here?

For one thing, Biden will never take an aggressive tone or do anything to agitate the Chinese,

Based on the statements coming out of the Chinese Foreign Ministry it looks like the US is doing plenty to agitate China. Did Mr. Biden not state clearly in his State of the Union Address that democracy itself is being tested by authoritarian regimes like China? Did he not say that China thinks their system is superior in its ability to respond rapidly to a changing world and that this is a direct challenge we must face if we are serious about keeping our own democracy strong? That was throwing the guantlet down. The ideological war, the competition for hearts and minds has begun. It's about time too.

Since he has taken office patrols of the South China Sea have increased, we have sent a high level delegation to Taipei to speak with the Taiwanese President, enraging the Chinese, and had a carrier strike group conduct air operations in the Taiwan Straits, not just sail through but conduct flight operations in the straits, along with sailing DDGs and a Coast Guard cutter through the straits on separate occasions. Looks to me like the US is stirring the pot vigorously, challenging China's claims while rallying allies to our side. Next month the Royal Navy sails through with a squadron of USMC F-35Bs aboard. All of that is agitating China plenty.

Borrow the old motto of Teddy Roosevelt, speak softly but carry a big stick. No need to be bellicose. Just build up the Navy and Air Force.

Thugs getting called out complain.

Those swarms of 200-500 ton boats that set up shop or threaten to ram tend to disappear when a couple of them get a 5 inch hole at the water line.
