It was America brought all the conflict from the beginning. The "Trade War' was still a war, just the consequences might be a deadly all out war but history must marked it was caused by Donald Trump and then Biden !

If America keep on their senseless sanction on Chinese defense minister "General Li", then the Chinese delegation should not contact with that American delegation not even a handshake with Austin. Their sanction actually has no effect to us but a very unrespectul behaviour, a dialogue should be based on equal and respect. Never mind, the Americans doesn't understand any basic manner. China should just leave them alone, Russia is a better one for military cooperation!

Doesn't anyone here understand international relations, political science or diplomacy in the geopolitical sphere in which we live? Judging by prior comments, I think not. Li and the CCP are simply using thinly veiled saccharine coated fake dialogue to coerce others to see "their point of view.". They clearly have plans to both cripple the West an reclaim Taiwan and Hong Kong. Macau never gets mentioned because the Western and CCP oligarchy make too much money there. Biden is a lame duck and the CCP knows this. They are aware the Democrats in the US are idiots and can be easily purchased and tricked. Li is simply using the media to play the victim, while his military is getting built up at an incredible pace. Blaming Japan, Canada and the US for routine training should be a red flag to any and all of you that China wants to fight.

First off the majority of Democrats in Congress, if not all, are highly suspicious of China and not at all inclined to believe anything their leaders say. Many are themselves the children of Taiwanese parents and have zero love of the CCP. From what I have seen they are less likely to bow to commercial considerations of firms tied to Chinese factories than most Republicans. They universally support defending Taiwan, The Democrats I know are all hawks when it concerns China.
As for Mr. Biden I think only a fool would call him a lame duck President at this point. I vividly recall during the last election he was written off as a lost cause right up until the votes were counted. He just played rope a dope with Kevin McCarthy leaving the right wing with almost nothing to show for all their yelling and foot stomping over the borrowing limit negotiations.

Before there can be any respect the Chinese need to stop using their army to break into private firm's IT systems and steal their ip. As far as I'm concerned the Chinese government and their major industries are nothing but thieves, preferring to steal tech others worked hard to develop rather than develop their own tech in house. I run a business outside of my day job and darned if I would let a thief into the store. No way. But the effing Chinese expect you to look the other way while they steal you blind then expect you to bow to them. They can all go to hades.

Agree to dialogue only when the CCP steps down. These mafia clowns have ruined it for China. If they have any real self-respect, respect for the people and even patriotism they would know they are not fit to govern.

The relationship between China and the U.S. is not at all simple, as some posters have implied. Both countries want to avoid military conflict or a new Cold War. These are incentives they can use to negotiate with.
But, under Xi, China has become more repressive to its own people and more aggressive to its neighbors. Given the example of Russia's intrusion into Ukraine, along with China's support for Putin, the U.S. and its allies want to make sure China does not attempt an invasion of Taiwan or any other sovereign country. I think these are red lines that are non-negotiable.
The ball is definitely in China's court. The rest of the world is waiting, watching, and preparing for the worst.

Of course, the CCP could turn a new leaf, and today would be a good day to do that as the 34th anniversary of Tiananmen, by admitting their innumerable wrongs and sheer obduracy. Then perhaps the world would be right to listen to their dialogue (instead of a sermonising monologue).

When Trump announced his trade war against China, I was skeptical. Most of the value earned on cheap Chinese imports doesn’t go to China, it goes to America. Then Trump announced his tax cuts, which I didn’t expect to happen, America’s business tax rates were the highest in the world, and congress exercises moat of its power extracts most of its graft by selling to corporations tax exemptions and loopholes. But the cuts came through, and, almost miraculously, I saw small and medium-size manufacturers put off moving to China, and, in some cases, shutting down operations in China and returning to America. I am a small industrial exporter located in Japan, and saw the tide changing. For the first time in my life it looked like America might see an increase in small and medium-size manufacturing, and capital flows began reversing, moving from Asia ( predominantly China), and returning to America. The total amount of capital was nearly half-a-trillion dollars. But then the pandemic hit, then Joe Biden became president, and everything evaporated. I didn’t vote for Trump, and many of my colleagues were fearful of him and his policies, but now he is missed. Trump was the one-and-only force sufficient to keep China in check.

How is it a risk for ships to sail in international waters? They have every right to sail through those waters every day of the week if they wish. Unlike China sailing around Japanese Senkaku islands (within the twelve mile limit) every day of the week, which they do anyway regardless of risks associated with such irresponsible challenging of Japans sovereignty.
One rule for China (China can do anything it wants), another rule for everyone else (everyone else must do as China demands). The world is not buying China's hypocrisy.

The published tax rates are meaningless. If you look at the sources of Federal revenues, tax receipts from corporations are between 1% and 2% of total Federal revenues, and the recent trend has run closer to the 1% figure.
Corporate and business taxes are levied on profits, not revenues. There are a lot of creative ways for an accounting firm to make your taxable profits appear small on paper.
Fully 85% of Federal revenues come from income and payroll taxes paid by individual taxpayers. The remaining 14% comes from a variety of excise taxes that are mostly paid by consumers of the product to which the excise tax applies.

Like his predecessor James Mattis, nobody at any level of the PLA has actual combat experience leading a large ground formation in actual war. Mr. Austin has commanded both a brigade and later a division in combat before becoming an area commander. He has hands on experience none of his Chinese counterparts have. Mr. Austin may not be as colorful a speaker as Mr. Mattis was but he has a proven combat record, he knows the hardware, the tactics and he knows how to lead. Most importantly his Chinese counterparts know he is the real deal, not a stuffed suit like Sergie Shoigu who never served a day in the Red Army before becoming the Defense Minister.

The crux of the problem is that China is trying to re-write international law by a combination of threat of force and adverse possession, a fancy legal term for squatters rights. If they squat long enough on some body of water and nobody boots them or challenges them they claim it as theirs. Under centuries old maritime law, the Taiwan straight 12 nautical miles from shore and the South China Sea are international waters and likewise international airspace. The ships and aircraft of any nation are free to use them. Similarly any feature that is below the surface of the ocean at mean high tide, like those shoals and reefs China built islands on, are by definition international waters and airspace. Anything built on them is man made and, again, under international law those man made features even a man made island have no territorial seas or territorial airspace surrounding them. Anyone can legally fly right over one of those man made islands and there is no legal recourse for China.
But they sure cry and stomp their feet when somebody calls their bluff and actually sails those waters or flies over one of their man made islands. For the western allies it is crucial to keep sailing through and flying over these places China illegally claims as their own otherwise the world cedes freedom of the seas to China. And..... I can guarantee you that if the west and its Asian allies allow China to actually take effective control of the South China Sea and Straits of Taiwan to a point where they can dictate who uses those bodies of water and who does not, they will not be satisfied with that. Next it will be all the waters inside the First Island China and maybe even waters beyond Indonesia and the Philippines.
