More evidence of the Trump/Putin/Kim/Mullahs alliance to put pressure on the US from all geographic areas to attempt to re-elect their stooge Trump, or a similar authoritarian-friendly Repub in 2024....
When the Repubs win, so does Russia, China, nK, and Iran....

Salutations and greetings to new U.S. Ambassador to Japan, Rahm Emanuel welcome to the Asia Pacific.

US should sell Taiwan 39 F-35s in response.

The headline is a bit click-baity, they make it sound it something new is happening and a war is about to start, and not a standard drill that has been happening for over a year.
@letsberealistic
Not likely at all unless some third-party makes a first move. Which is always possible, of course.
Taiwan could start a military action by declaring independence, but they would know that is a terrible idea. Most of the people there prefer maintaining the status quo to overtly declaring independence.
Short of that, China is not going to want to engage in a military action against a population they consider their countrymen unless they have to. Not to mention, the status quo is generally pretty good for them too.

The world stands with you, Taiwan, against any and all aggression from the People's republic of China!!!
Kumagaijin
I can't imagine the Ukrainians or the Taiwanese putting up with being occupied by foreign soldiers for very long. If Russia invades the Ukraine, it could be another Afghanistan for the Soviets. If China invades Taiwan, I would expect something similar.
gogogo
Smells like China and Russia going to invade two countries at the same time :(
Eastman
this was possibly just another routine flight.
every country doing so.
btw nice clickbait.

China showing once again it's aggression towards a sovereign nation. Disgusting intimidation by a horrible nation. More reason to stop investing in China or doing any business with them. It all supports their aggression.
Agree. closely followed by Russia.

It’s ok, the ioc chose them to hold the Winter Olympics so they must be a friendly country not forcibly sterilising their own people or creating global pandemics killing millions. When will China be held accountable for covid 19(the China virus)?
Fighto!
Outrageous behaviour from the Communists. If they think this is going to scare the Taiwanese, or make them back down from legitimate independence claims, then the Chinese are dumber than we thought.
The free world is standing by, ready and willing to respond to ANY attack on Taiwan at a moments notice.
The Avenger
Unpleasant truth: Taiwan is up for grabs whenever the Chinese choose, as Ukraine is for the Russians. We have more leverage on the Chinese, but it isn’t enough. Sanctions and military posturing won’t work and anyone who says otherwise is lying or deluding themselves.
Sven Asai
That’s just only a stupid stage play set in scene by all three world powers together, just to divert the focus from all our current real world problems and their obvious incapabilities regarding to them. Corona, economy, innovation, energy, CO2 and climate transformation , social progress , wealth distribution and more? Forget it. All three , US, China and Russia have currently nothing to contribute. There’s not going to be a war in Ukraine or Taiwan very soon. That’s all false flag to keep you unfocused and abiding.

What about Russia gathering troops at the ukrainian border ?
Fighto!
Wrong.
It's the free world's business. And the free world is no longer gonna take any cr@p from those two evil totalitarian regimes.
Alex
I know, right? And what about the US troops all over the world? Sheesh..

Russia has every right in the world to have troops at its borders. That is completely different from Chinas claim that Taiwan is part of its territory.
Mr Kipling
A very misleading headline, what really happened was that China flew 39 military aircraft in CHINESE airspace.
More of the usual anti China propaganda.
tooheysnew
It’s a deliberate tactic to -
A. Check the Taiwanese response time
B. Wear out both the fighter planes & pilots
nandakandamanda
Like the Russians, the Chinese have to keep their military doing something patriotic.
kaimycahl
This is nothing but a calculated plan by Russia and China. China wants Taiwan and the only way they can get Taiwan back is have Russia stage a planned attempt to attack Ukraine, something they will not do this will allow China to go in an try to take Taiwan thinking the US and it allies can't fight two wars at the same time. This is the same thing that happened when Russia and Japan was at war Japan controlled the islands that Russia now claims as there's that Japan also claims. The only way Russia took control over those islands was when the US and Japan went to war, when this happened Russia simply claimed the islands back because Japan could not defend them. This is the same plan, nothing new.

The A.D.I.Z. is a self declared one without international recognition !
There is still international airspace!
Desert Tortoise
No, it was international airspace. It is not any nation's sovereign airspace. Territorial sovereignty extends only 12 nautical miles from shore.
lostrune2
Xi is not satisfied with the status quo - he wants Taiwan as part of his legacy to be known as the best Chinese leader ever
Desert Tortoise
In a sense that is true of every ADIZ. A nation declares off shore airspace out to 50 or 100 nautical miles from shore an ADIZ (Air Defense Intercept Zone) as a means of determining the intentions of aircraft approaching their country. Generally aircraft on a filed flight plan will check in with the ADIZ controlling agency as they cross into it. The controlling agency will see their filed flight plan and see if the aircraft is just passing through or is inbound to an airport in that nation. Once the identity and intentions of the aircraft entering the ADIZ are clear no further action is necessary. It is when aircraft are not on a filed flight plan and do not check in with the controlling agency that a nation might launch fighters to investigate. First they will try to contact them by radio (the plane might be having problems and a busy flight crew missed checking in) but failing that they will launch fighters. The ADIZ gives a nation time to launch their fighters to defend against a potentially hostile aircraft or more than one aircraft. There is not territorial violation and no legal reason to harm such aircraft, even if they belong to an enemy, simply for entering an ADIZ but the host nation of the ADIZ has every right to send up fighters and closely escort potentially hostile aircraft of another power. A territorial violation does not occur unless the aircraft crosses that 12 nautical mile limit without the approval of the coastal nation. Very often nations fly combat aircraft into their adversaries ADIZ to test how and how quickly they respond.

Insecure Chinese leaders would crumble, if their feeling are hurt, by mocking them
RichardPearce
China doesn't need to invade, or even attack, the enclave of the cult that imagines itself the true rulers of China, they just need to make it so expensive for their foreign backers to keep that cult going that they stop doing so.
And whether it's one of these flybys or crushing the Lithuanian economy as a warning to countries that are willing to court favour with those foreign backers, what isn't even a noticeable cost to China is a major cost to the other side.

@losrune2
Even if he did preside over the reunification of Taiwan, I doubt that would even register in the top 5 of his accomplishments. Compared to things like ending poverty. Taiwan probably feels minor. I don't think his legacy is a particularly major concern to him at this point.
lostrune2
Oh no no no. Whoever Chinese leader gets Taiwan could lay claim to the best Chinese leader. That's been a dream for China ever since Chairman Mao took over. That's ingrained in their Communist foundation
And Xi is very much concerned about his legacy:
-- He undid the presidential term limits, so he could rule for life
-- He is only the 2nd sitting leader to have a historical resolution adopted that defines his legacy in the history of the party. Mao is the only other sitting leader to have his name written into the party charter in its 102-year history. Only Mao, Deng, and Xi have bodies of thoughts bearing their names. Xi devotes over a quarter of the 531 pages of the party’s newest official history just for himself. No Chinese leader in recent times has been more fixated than Xi on history and his place in it
-- Like Mao's Little Red Book, Xi’s philosophy is already being interwoven into Chinese society, added to educational textbooks from primary school to college. But while Mao and Deng used such resolutions for the party to reflect on past missteps and criticise where they had taken the wrong path, Xi's resolution is all about "praise and self-praise"
-- Mao’s legacy during the Cultural Revolution is whitewashed in the communique. Xi is rewriting history to justify his rule for years to come. That's because in order to establish absolute authority like Mao and his cult of personality, they have to erase from history Mao's mistakes. Which is absurd because that was exactly the sort of thing they repudiated in the 1981 resolution that concluded that Mao and his cult of personality made mistakes. Xi is giving himself the same titles that's been previously reserved only for Mao
Shall we go on
