The plan would also involve creating a named military operation for the Pacific that would enable the defense secretary to allocate additional dollars and resources to the China problem, along the lines of CENTCOM. possibly.

The Marines are also reorganizing in a very big way to allow them to coordinate with the Navy to sink ships. The Marines retired their last tanks last month (most were transferred to the US Army and the crews had the option to go over to the Army or learn a new skill in the Marines). The Marines are also reducing their tube artillery (long guns) and replacing them with rockets and missiles. Among the missiles are JSM and possibly Tomahawk. There are also a new class of smaller, lighter and more numerous landing ship under consideration for rapid acquisition. The goal is for the Marines to be able to capture some small islands, quickly set up anti-ship missiles and in coordination with the Navy engage enemy warships with the Navy driving the enemy towards the Marines hammer and anvil style. Instead of taking and holding territory or fighting conventional land battles the Marines want to get in, shoot missiles and then egress quickly, moving to other islands to support the Navy. The Marines have been testing autonomous truck mounted JSMs and is procuring these now.

It looks like China's just going to keep on poking and probing further and further until they get Taiwan to commit a violent reaction and then it's game on.

That is a very American way of looking at things. Everything has to be about "game on" and fireworks. But that is not how the CCP operates. They are going for slow and steady strangulation, not a "game on" ting.

Look forward to more and more pressure to isolate Taiwan (to which the current US govt will concede), and a gradual isolation of Taiwan, leading up to a naval blockade.

You need to explain how the US Navy standing up a dedicated task force to counter the PLAN along with re-structuring the Marine Corps to support naval warfare in the western Pacific leading to what they are calling Pacific Brigades amounts to "appeasing" China.

I would hazard to guess that the response would have to also simultaneously satisfy “progressive” assertions that America is a systemically racist colonial power bent on the subjugation of black and brown people the world over. Isn’t there a history of the use of the military as an institution to degrade and rob the land and freedoms of non-white peoples? Instead of countering China biden is just as apt to listen to the Squad and defund the military entirely.
