STOP feeding the MONSTER!! The world needs to leave china behind to rot on its own
Fighto!
Absolutely sickeining - yet another Canadian taken as a politixal prisoner by the totalitarian, genocidal Communist regime.

Fighto!
Expecting the usual suspects to start banging on about how "theyve been to China many times and never been arrested for spying" to justify this outrage by the Communist Chinese government.
Boycott Communist China, boycott the Genocide games 2022.

The CCP disgusts me.

Asian countries don't share a lot of western values and views. Drug trafficking is one of them. That Canadian will get the same sentence in Malaysia, Singapore and Indonesia, to name a few. When in Rome, do what the Romans do.
Cricky
Just have nothing to do with China, it’s not worth it.

Wow, I expected death sentence.
These guys are in this mess because of USA and China politics.
Canada should have never gotten involved.
The Canadian government removed her from her on going flight by trick and now we have this mess.
The legal loophole the USA is using to get extradition is well over 100 years old and should have been removed long ago as in theory she hasn't done anything illegal by Canadian standard that could lead to extradition.
The extradition request isn't even for the main charges she is being charged with in the USA because they would lose the extradition case.
The USA found a tiny minor law still on the books in both countries and on that basis has requested extradition.
If she ever is sent to the USA they will immediately drop that charge and file all the rest that are invalid internationally and by Canadian law.
These men will pay the price for a weak Canada.
She should be put on a plane to her original destination Mexico and let's see what they do about it.

Don't visit China! It isn't a civilized place at all.
bass4funk
They won't do it, they all allowed China to get too big and they should have never been allowed to in the WTO and now the world is paying for that mistake, if all the leaders put money and wealth aside for the greater good and try to take China down by boycotting them as much as humanly possible China would get the message, but they won't and here we are and this will continue, sadly.

China is quite a wonderful place to visit. I also really liked the people. However I do not trust the government, it is evil and bad for the world. I will never go there again and do my best to boycott China.

Considering a death sentence possibility 14 years not that bad…just saying.

Same with the WHO. China wants to be part of the WHO, but won't play by the transparency rules.
William77
China is really the worst case in our century, the lack of transparency and human rights by their government is simply scaring.
Unfortunately some neighborhood nations in east Asia that claim to be part of true democracies have "justice system" closer to dictatorial China rather than the true democracies back in the west.
I'm sorry for Canada and all involved in this sneaky CCP political retortion.

For all your sacrifices, your willingness to accede to the hollowing out of your industrial base and concomitant imperiling of this and future generations on the altar of expediency, we thank you from the bottom of our hearts. And now, the regime change reality bites moment you’ve all been waiting for. Without further ado, may we present to you our greatest creation.

Well, it looks like it's time to boycott their little Olympics.

Canada is in this mess because the USA found a tiny loophole and added the only charge they could that would get her extradited.
It wasn't even part of anything she was originally changed with but nothing she was charged with was a crime in Canada or any other country.
So what amounts to a crime that at most gets a fine the extradition request was amended while she was on a plane to Mexico via Canada.
None of the main USA charges are on the extradition request because they are internationally illegal in the same way the USA law on non USA companies violating the Cuban sanctions.
No country recognises the sanctions she is being charged with and had those been the "official" reason for extradition Canada would have ignored it.

This is a good article.
But more can be found.
The real charges she will get in the USA are violating sanctions not a crime in Canada as we don't recognise the Right of the USA to impose its laws on other countries.
So the only charge we both have in common is lying to bank.
Not much of a big deal and would not get more than a serious fine.
But we all know once in the USA that will not be the real charges she faces.
The USA thinks it can impose its laws on other countries.
Canadian businesses men cannot Go to the USA because the USA claims the right to charge them with doing legal business in Canada with cuba.
Same thing here but with Iran
jeancolmar
There is one thing that is 100% clear. Do not set foot in China for any reason. Do not even fly over China. China is a pariah state. Avoid.

Get those western spies!
Laguna
Feel bad for both guys, but seriously, Spavor - with that kind of job, you'd kind of expect something like this would eventually happen in either country.
Mordac
Only the Canadian state would be so self-rightous as to cry victim when citizens are made political prisoners in response to Canada first taking a political prisoner.
Mordac
This is precisely as I would have said to the Huawei lady doing business in USA and Canada.
Zaphod
He will be let go as soon as the US government lets Huawei back into the 5G and defense contracts. No reason to worry for him.

Trudeau's Canada is walked on by China, Trump, Biden and every other country in the world and Canadians just clutch their fake plastic Chinese made pearls in fear.
Strangerland
The CCP are freaking out, because they thought that since people could pressure the CCP to do what they want with political prisoners, the CCP thought they could do the same with prisoners in other countries. But Canada, a much smaller country (politically, financially, and militarily) than the CCP, didn't buckle, and is continuing to let Meng go through the legal system, to receive a legal judgement, without any interference from the legislature. This freaks the CCP out, because suddenly, the power they think they had isn't there.
Good job Canada. Stand up to the bully. Expose them for the murderous regime they are.
No one outside the CCP believes this man is guilty of anything other than being Canadian when the CCP is angry at Canada.
Strangerland
Impressive mental gymnastics to somehow decide that the people you claim post factual articles on the CCP, but somehow they lose that functionality when it comes to Trump.
Seems like something said by a hyper-partisan who determines guilt/innocence/good/evil based on party affiliation, and whom their leader has condemned or loved on a personal level.
Zaphod

LOL! I am amazed of the mental gymnastics involved in looking at the articles here over the last years and claim that. The human ability to create an imagine reality is amazing. Lots of truth in fairy tales.... read the emperors clothes.

I've been on the fence about whether the world should boycott the Beijing winter Olympics, but this breaks the camel's back. Boycott!

Isn't China just protecting one of its own?
Sure looks like Canada started the hostage politics at the behest of the US
ian
So she was asked by the bank if she had dealings with Iran and when she answered no, she was charged with lying?
Seems it's the lying to the bank that is the probable extraditable offense, not the violation of trade sanctions.
I guess if she answered yes they would have just let her on her merry way to wherever she was going =)

Canada should be the first not to send it's Olympic team. Like they were the first to pull out of the 2020 game's, which was the correct decision at the time.

@The Avenger
China and Japan, No.
Korea and Taiwan, Yes.
Unlike China and Japan, Korea and Taiwan are fully democratic countries, with free press, free election, a peaceful periodic transfer of power.
So Korea and Taiwan are the proof that fully Western style democracy is possible in Asia.
