Quite inflammatory to use the term “battle lines”

The last I looked there was a glut of Chinese products being sold all over the world…

"The United States is recommending that we do not establish relations with China and yet they have relations," he said.

imagine that. People are starting to figure out the hypocrisy and react negatively to it.

just the USA telling them don’t do it doesn’t work anymore. They see what other countries get for free from Biden.

and now they want something too in order to be a US proxy against China.

exactly, but the Meeja lives for sensationalism.... which escalates by the year....

No one is scared of Biden’s America. Fear of angering America used to be enough to get countries to line up with us.

Now they want stuff to be on Team USA. Seems Latin America has been lost to China and Russia so USA hoping to get Africa.

In many ways, countries continuing to pretend that the cult running Taipei are the rulers of China is a proxy for how subservient they are to Washington. That the government of Honduras, completely subservient to Washington as recently as the Obama Presidency (the coup against Zelaya) has defied it shows that for all the military might Washington still fields it is no longer feared even by Latin America

-2 ( +4 / -6 )

Nations of the caliber of Honduras or Paraguay diplomatically accepting China over Taiwan may make headlines and get the CCP supporters excited. But Taiwan, even without official diplomatic relations, has the support of the US, EU and Japan. And anyone watching Russia's now 13 month old "Special Military Operation" shoud realize just exactly what that means.

"China-Taiwan battle lines run through Latin America"

Surely it would be more accurate to say "U.S.-Taiwan battle lines run through Latin America" because Taiwan and China were getting along fine with the status quo until America started meddling.

These corrupt nations aligning with Communist China will one day realize signing up comes with hidden costs down the track. When the trade balance turns against them, China simply takes over their ports and infrastructure.

We are seeing citizens of African nations, the Solomon Islands and more rising up and attacking - at times killing - Chinese people based there.

Taiwan going to a corrupt country like Guatemala, with an authoritarian government ,is not very smart, these people in Central America are smart, they know what going on in America, than Japanese do,they come to America and become part of our country

-6 ( +0 / -6 )

Screw CCP, why are our countries all sucking up to the CCP?

Japan, US, and any other freedom loving nation should switch to Taiwan, or put on the adult pants and declare that they will have relations with both independent nations.

CCP and Taiwan cannot tell other nations who they may have relations with.

There's like zero Russian or Chinese bases in the Western Hemisphere except a token presence in Cuba and Venezuela. Your desire for an end to the Pax Americana just wishful thinking.

The only Chinese Democracy is that found in Taipei. Must kill the Criminal Party to see that every day.

Taiwan is NOT a country, at most a de facto authority. Like the Palestinian they are not living in a country but living under an authority not recognised by some "Big Country"!

-3 ( +2 / -5 )

The vast majority of Taiwanese citizens reject full unification with China.

The vast majority of Taiwanese citizens reject full independence from China.

What they do want is the current status quo. The Anti china brigade would do well to remember this.

Only because they have a gun to their heads. The china brigade would do well to remember this.

They certainly aren't living under the authority of the Criminal Party. Given they understand they are under threat of invasion, they aren't living under the authority of the US, either.

Rubbish. They know how important China is to their economy. Also they don't want to be proxy's for another UD war.

The Taiwanese can manage visits from US officials. They know that they have to avoid letting the PRC's red lines keep moving ever closer to war by calling bluffs.

2 ( +4 / -2 )

Also they don't want to be proxy's for another UD war.

And military spending there is wildly popular, again because of the gun to their head.

3 ( +4 / -1 )

If there is a gun to the head it isn't Chinese.

The only nation looking for war in Taiwan is the US.

-4 ( +2 / -6 )

The only nation looking for war in Taiwan is the US.

Nonsense. 2/3 of Taiwanese don't want to be called Chinese. They want no part of the thugocracy going on in the PRC.

2 ( +3 / -1 )

Mr. K - you seem to want to volunteer other countries like Taiwan and Ukraine to live under authoritarian rule from their much larger neighbor, yet you still presumably live and work in a democracy. Would you like to live under Putin's Russia or the CCP? If not, then please stop suggesting that others bend the knee.

ps Bakhmut still holds

Taiwan is still calling herself: "China", (Republic of China) but that China is illegitimate and only recognised by 13 nation's by bribery !

Like the Confederate states during American Civil War, they represent a minor authorities only. And Taiwan is only one "Authority"!

Threats by the PRC will do that do you. If the PRC's entire foreign policy is based on bribing by economics.

Like the Confederate states during American Civil War, they represent a minor authorities only. And Taiwan is only one "Authority"!

The ROC government is the only authority on the island and it's been that way for 70 years. The PRC has no power there.
