Chinese culture has no theistic belief. It's been like that for 5000 years. It's not about to change. Besides, Christianity and other theistic religions are so hypocritical as evidenced by European colonial history that the Chinese are wise not to adapt them.

and recommending those who cling to religious beliefs be asked to leave the party.

Sounds like common sense...

The crackdown on rumors is disturbing and leads to a slippery slope, however the crackdown on religion is justified and long overdue

That's not my understanding. Gods abound in Chinese history and culture. That they didn't settle on one of them or perhaps don't accord them fully supreme attributes doesn't mean there are no theistic beliefs. I suspect the CCP's fear is not of weird beliefs but of religious organizations.

Throwing religious people out of the party is a bit extreme.

Can’t they just make fun of their ideas?

Get off your high horse, your own country is full of islamophobia. The country that gave us Ms Hanson.

The path China is taking is setting themselves up to be seen as a global oppressor of religion at a time when the growth in faiths of many kinds is surging

China has been an oppressor of religion for a long time. I don’t know what ‘setting up’ means here. It’s not s new path.

Party members who have religious belief should have strengthened thought education.

Strengthened thought education?

These are the guys that want to be the new power base for the region and the world? So believing in a higher power than themselves is against the rules now. Total subjugation to the state, which by the way happens to be corrupt to the core. What a bunch of absolute melonheads.

If you can't prove something is true, but still claim that it is true, what does that make you? (2 answers)

If you can't replace the higher leader in a country, what does that make the country? (1 answer)

If you criticize a political party or govt at all levels and can be arrested for it, what does that say about your country? (10 answers, none good)

Trends have little to do with "truth."

Can't believe CrazyJoe and I agree.

Somebody should tell the 1.8 billion Muslims of the world and the approximately 300 million in South East Asia about China's hostility to their religion and what goes on in Xinjiang province in particular.

Why? Don’t you think they know? What do you think they should do?

Ms Hanson is a nobody in world politics. An irrelevance. Australia has freedom of religion. Look it up. Clearly what China does is far more important than Ms Hanson. The path China is taking is setting themselves up to be seen as a global oppressor of religion at a time when the growth in faiths of many kinds is surging. You can be sensible about the religious composition of your citizens without the heavy hand. Thats my point.

Anti religious fanaticism is no better than religious fanaticism. The CCP wants to be the only "divine entity" that the Chinese are forced to worship. And the CCP had better be careful with that line of thought since some folks are known for going out of their way to destroy their "gods".

'Party members and officials must correctly exercise the power granted them by the people, be clean and upright, and oppose any abuse of power or behavior that seeks personal benefit,' one new clause says.

Wow, the people of China didn't grant them power...because the average Chinese citizen doesn't get to VOTE on who is their leader or representative. Only a small group of political and financial "elite" gave themselves power. Keep up your lack of credibility CCP. You're only in it for yourselves to maintain power over the people of China, and serve nobody but YOURSELVES.

A crackdown on religion? Forcing people to be atheists? For real? Surely it should be up to the individual, no matter what your personal thoughts are. Talk about a slippery slope!

An interesting article.

https://www.theguardian.com/news/2018/aug/27/religion-why-is-faith-growing-and-what-happens-next

"Islam is the fastest-growing religion in the world – more than twice as fast as the overall global population. Between 2015 and 2060, the world’s inhabitants are expected to increase by 32%, but the Muslim population is forecast to grow by 70%. And even though Christians will also outgrow the general population over that period, with an increase of 34% forecast mainly thanks to population growth in sub-Saharan Africa, Christianity is likely to lose its top spot in the world religion league table to Islam by the middle of this century.

Hindus are set to grow by 27%, and Jews by 15% mainly because of the high birth rate among the ultra-Orthodox. The religiously unaffiliated will see a 3% increase. But proportionately, these religious groupings will be smaller than now because their growth is lower than the increase in the overall global population. And Buddhists are forecast to see a 7% drop in their numbers."

"China has seen a huge religious revival in recent years and some predict it will have the world’s largest Christian population by 2030"

China is on the wrong side of world trends....

Even western Christians fair better in the pecking order of the Quran than atheists and non-theists in general, including those that follow Confucius.
