All the Far East is beautiful. For somebody who likes to Meander around in the town center, likes Art and Culture, beaches, video arcades of the 1980s and values personal safety-As to visiting another country besides Japan, which should be a higher priority Mainland China or Taiwan??

Any feedback would be a great assistance.

I have been to several Far East Asian countries, including China and Taiwan, and I felt safe in both countries. Of course, one needs to use common sense. Don't flash large wads of money when purchasing something or don't wear fancy jewelry. When I dropped my boarding pass in a Chinese airport, a Chinese husband and wife chased me down to return it. They probably would have done the same if it was money, but not everyone would. There are good and bad people in every country. I met some very nice people in Taiwan, too. Learn where the areas are that you should stay away from, at least at night time. If you stay in a hotel, the people there can tell you very much because they live in that area.

I found that more people speak English in Taiwan than in China. One can use a handheld translator, but I prefer to learn at least some of the language of the country I am visiting. But having a handheld translator, such as on a cell phone, is still a good idea.

To answer your question, I would first choose Taiwan. But if you have ample time, then visit both countries on the same trip. Keep abreast of the political climates these days, too.

Won't comment on the food part. But in my personal experience, many folks not of Chinese descent who like China do so because they have (or desire to have) a Chinese girlfriend or wife.

That's probably true. My friend has been to many Asian countries, including China, and his famous quote is "Asia, where even the ugly women are beautiful." But I remind him there are beautiful women everywhere.

Does nothing to encourage me to visit China.

2 ( +2 / -0 )

To hell with the PRC and the Chicoms.

It's good my line of work no longer requires me to visit the PRC.

Besides, the bit about the food, culture and arts, etc. is over-rated, so I don't have an urge to vacation there either.

PS. NEVER TRUST A CHICOM.

Beijing has struggled to gain international trust for its vaccine candidates, hindered by a lack of transparency on test results.

To date, there is no evidence that Xi Jinping had been vaccinated and that could be an indication that Chinese vaccines are still continually being developed for top Communist Party leaders. The free world should only accepted the validity of Chinese vaccine when Xi Jinping is publicly seen rolling up his sleeves for COVID-19 shot.

Wow! How about anal swabs as well?

Daily, for all three weeks of detention, I mean "quarantine". And you have to buy them too.

1 ( +2 / -1 )

Those arriving in China will still have to face a grueling quarantine of up to three weeks.

3 weeks still! Lol

media is biased, it's not lacking test data nor transparency. it's the fact they don't bother to get it translated.

Which peer-reviewed publication of renown did they publish on?

-1 ( +0 / -1 )

Thanks. But no thanks....

I'll just stick to visiting Taiwan instead.

The BMJ stated that the Russian vaccine has a 91.5% efficacy, which is as good as it gets.

That sounds really good. But, Putin.

To accept that number as real, you'd have to accept Russia as being transparent with information, and not a democracy. Tell that to Komrade Putin, the dictator in command.

Remember, we're talking about a country that ran a state-sponsored doping program at the Olympics, the place where humanity is supposed to come together. Putin instead lied, poisoned his athletes, poisoned the Olympic spirit, and proved Russia isn't trustworthy even as far as you can spit.

Russia has a vaccine. But you'd have to be a Russian to be brainwashed enough to trust the information coming from Russia enough to test it.

Anything in your luggage that they can copy and you don’t even need a passport or can be a super spreader with maximum virus load. rofl

I love visiting China. It's a very interesting country, great food, interesting culture, beautiful scenery, nice people (once you get past some of the things westerners consider rude).

But unfortunately, unless the reign of the CCP ends (which I don't see happening), I won't ever be able to go back to China. I've pointed out too many times that Taiwan is an independent country, Xi is a dictator, and their genocide of the Uighurs is a travesty of humanity that the CCP should pay for.

I wouldn't ever risk trying to cross their border again after saying all that.

1 ( +3 / -2 )

The only reasons I would go to China now are for the food, historical buildings, nature and of course the women.

All of those things, and I would particularly like to visit the Museam of Unit 731 in Harbin.

-2 ( +1 / -3 )

A few comments lump the Russian vaccine Sputnik V with the Chinese ones.

The BMJ stated that the Russian vaccine has a 91.5% efficacy, which is as good as it gets.

Although everyone was sceptical of it, including many Russians, it seems to have worked out fine.

It is disappointing that so much time was wasted in 2020. Large numbers of vaccine production sites should have been constructed, and staff trained, so that when any vaccines came on stream they could have been produced under license in every country, in much larger quantities, more quickly. A global failure to plan ahead. We are still not building enough vaccine production sites for the number of shots we will need.

Those who voted down my comments regarding US, Australia and China must not have an eye for satire. Sigh. The US is doing something very rare in foreign policy and that is standing up publicly for a long time ally in a dispute with China. The comment was intended to counter another comment that the US would just roll over for China. That is not the case with this administration.

My wife is going to be mad as heck if she can't travel to Shanghai to see Momma.

-1 ( +1 / -2 )

Well, since I would never go to China, not necessary for me.

4 ( +6 / -2 )

China are only doing what Japan once did.

Remember the days when Japanese snow was different.

0 ( +3 / -3 )

@Monty

Who the hell will go to China?

Lots of business people. Apple China, Tesla China, GM China, Honda China, Toyota China, Nissan China, Nike China, Shanghai Disneyland don't run by themselves, they need foreign supervisors and managers to run them.

-2 ( +2 / -4 )

It is a power play. The CCP is establishing who is the alpha dog. And with the new swamp government in the US, there is no pushback. The CCP is on the roll.

Yes, yes, of course. I guess that is why the US is telling China there can be no improvement in Sino-US relations until the Chinese normalize their relations with Australia. No one with any kind of spine would waste their time standing up for an ally like Australia. Pure cowardice. Of course.

1 ( +3 / -2 )

I would say we should separate China, from the Chinese CCP when directing our anger. The latter should be the Target, as in reality many Chinese Peoples are normal just like you and me.

That has already been the case with US diplomacy. My family in Shanghai, who btw suffered greatly under Mao, likes to say "the government does what it wants and we do what we want". There is no affection for or loyalty to any level of government. But I will add this caution, while the average Chinese are "normal just like you and me" their world view and understanding of world events are very different from those of us who grew up and gained our education in free societies. It is a case of two people looking at the exact same object but seeing two completely different things. The Reformation and Age of Reason never happened in China. Ideas of individual rights and limited government are unknown to most Chinese and completely alien concepts. Knowledge of world history and current events are very limited. My Shanghai born wife will often shake her head in disgust at people in the west saying we have "freedom to be stupid". By the same token, westerners do not often have any idea how the Chinese see the world. How many Americans are aware US troops fought in Beijing during the Boxer Rebellion? Everyone in China knows that. How many Americans know how thoroughly China was colonized during the 18th and 19th Century? Not many I would wager but those wars and that period of colonization have a huge influence on modern CCP policy and how they see the west. As a result we too often talk past each other without ever understanding what the other side is saying.

4 ( +6 / -2 )

I don't see this rule lasting very long. There are too many business people from countries that do not offer the Chinese vaccine who will effectively be banned from China. Banned from travel they will be unable to conduct or manage their businesses in China and that hurts China.

4 ( +5 / -1 )

I still can’t believe that there’s no Made in Japan vaccine.

Something is rotten and fishy.

1 ( +4 / -3 )

I would say we should separate China, from the Chinese CCP when directing our anger. The latter should be the Target, as in reality many Chinese Peoples are normal just like you and me.

The CCP however, is fundamentally a Terrorist Organization and should be declared as such.

4 ( +6 / -2 )

No one can totally understand China, not even the Chinese, the Government is speaking their own language and its not Chinese! It's called Phuck da world!

2 ( +4 / -2 )

daito_hak

Complete disgusting utterly decision which reflects quite well how disgusting China can be

It is a power play. The CCP is establishing who is the alpha dog. And with the new swamp government in the US, there is no pushback. The CCP is on the roll.

-4 ( +1 / -5 )

Unless you are blind, asleep, deaf, stupid, corrupt, a member of the ccp, indoctrinated or an idiot you must be able to see that china continues each and everyday and with every announcement tries to drive the rest of the world in a conflict.

Maybe a trade conflict

Political conflict

arms conflict

territorial conflict

Health conflict

medical conflict

monetary conflict

technological conflict

Industrial conflict

maritime conflict

each and every day we read about one of these items china has dragged up to make a dispute about or make some issue about.

Time to tune out and turn china off !!

6 ( +7 / -1 )

For all I care, every country should block Chinese from entering their country as well as everything Chinese.

6 ( +8 / -2 )

bugger China!

4 ( +5 / -1 )

Just say "NO!" to China's CCP

7 ( +9 / -2 )

I bet many on here cant wait to get the free anal sample and the now added bonus of a chinese vaccine......................................complimentary with any visit to china get your tickets now for golden week on special sale at any selected travel agent.

3 ( +5 / -2 )

They still gettin' that booty

They could use the threat of anal sampling to get more visitors to purchase their vaccines. I also would not be surprised if they are using anal examinations to take genetic samples for government research as well as criminal profiles.

Probably, their sales are not that great at the moment because no one trusts them!

8 ( +8 / -0 )

This is just a visa. It does not exempt any visitor from the anal COVID19 test. You have been warned!

They still gettin' that booty!

3 ( +3 / -0 )

A vaccine which is not available in your country, mandatory anal swabs.

Thank you I don’t need to go to China!!!

5 ( +7 / -2 )

Who the hell will go to China?

Chinese people visiting family, people who want to do business, immigrants from third-world countries that probably already bought the vaccine from China because first-world countries monopolized supplies from the more trustworthy manufacturers.

Other countries should make Chinese visitors get vaccinated with other vaccines before entering. Unfortunately, doctors in China will just vaccinate them with a Chinese vaccine and charge the patient a premium to get a fake certificate.

3 ( +3 / -0 )

This is just a visa. It does not exempt any visitor from the anal COVID19 test. You have been warned!

"In 2019, China ranked 4th worldwide in number of international tourists."

Leaving out folks who visit for business, many of these would be overseas Chinese going to visit their families or their ancestral villages. Having a large diaspora helps in bumping up the tourism figures.

"Historically the cultural, intellectual and economic powerhouse of Asia"

Asia is too diverse to call one country the cultural powerhouse of Asia. It's like saying that France is the cultural capital of Europe even though those who know better will agree that Europe is very diverse as well. Can't blame Europeans though, since in my country most will not know the difference between French culture and Italian culture either.

"Great food and stunningly beautiful women too."

Won't comment on the food part. But in my personal experience, many folks not of Chinese descent who like China do so because they have (or desire to have) a Chinese girlfriend or wife.

6 ( +7 / -1 )

*In the West and in Hong Kong.

8 ( +8 / -0 )

This is to push for China vaccine approval in the West mostly.

Because I do not believe you can order your Sinovac on Alibaba...

13 ( +13 / -0 )

What’s wrong with all the other vaccines? Bit of a childish move by China.

At one point in time I thought I’d like to see the Great Wall of China but in light of their attitude and belligerence to my country the past 18 months I’d be happy never to set foot there.

14 ( +14 / -0 )

Who the hell will go to China?

Many people.

This is a very likely prediction. Thumbing this down is just babyish.

Quite a few throw their rattles out of their prams when China is concerned. The sock puppets usually get involved in the thumbs down which gives a distorted view.

In 2019, China ranked 4th worldwide in number of international tourists. It will be interesting to see how the future number of visitors is affected by Covid originating in China.

My guess is millions will still visit.

It’s a fascinating country. Historically the cultural, intellectual and economic powerhouse of Asia. Great food and stunningly beautiful women too. When my brother and his wife visited me in Japan, China and Thailand were top of their to visit list while in this region of the world. Millions worldwide studying the language too. A tough but fascinating language to learn.

Well worth a trip.

-8 ( +5 / -13 )

So, no Japanese, Americans , Russians, Europeans.... Doesn't sounds like a winning formula to get tourists. Bet it won't last long. Getting the world to agree on the vaccination certificate for travelers will be difficult.

13 ( +13 / -0 )

China self killing to the winter Olympics

14 ( +15 / -1 )

It is my understanding that Japan has created no vaccine of its own. Perhaps Suga should sign up for the Chinese version. It could be shipped there more quickly (since Japan is a small group of islands off of China's coast). And people living there (foreign and Japanese) would have no problem traveling between the two nations.

-16 ( +1 / -17 )

So China is openly politicizing the vaccine, allowing visa issuance only to foreigners who have taken the Chinese vaccine, but not other nation's vaccines.

Fine, the entire world should prohibit visa issuance to Chinese Passport holders who have not taken a non-Chinese vaccine.

16 ( +18 / -2 )

" provided they take a Chinese-made vaccine". Is this blackmail? I would never set foot in China, anyway. The clinical data for their vaccine is still a mystery just like the Wuhan virus.

13 ( +15 / -2 )

Who the hell will go to China?

Many people.

-15 ( +4 / -19 )

I want nothing fon China. I lived in Shanghai but under different leadership than from Emperor Xi.

and 6 years in total in Hongkong when it was stil Hongkong.

now i want nothing from China. Nothing.

23 ( +24 / -1 )

Only if they had a Chinese vaccine.

4 ( +4 / -0 )

@Jimizo

I had my time in China...I had my time in China a lot....

I would never say anything negative without own experience.

But it is OK that you like it. I have no problem with that.

Everybody has his own preferences what he likes or not.

So enjoy your time over there.

12 ( +14 / -2 )

Does that mean you can skip the anal COVID test as well which all travellers arriving there now get

16 ( +17 / -1 )

Some business men probably must go, even they don't want to, but their companies "force" them to go for the sake of business.

Not in my business. I loved going over there as did many of my coworkers. Shanghai is a cracking place. Great fun.

Millions of tourists too. I’ve also been there as a tourist.

-11 ( +6 / -17 )

Don’t any people from your ‘home country’ visit China?

No one that I know personally.

I’m sure a few from your ‘home country’ go there for business or pleasure. Check the numbers. I’m sure they are available.

You often comment negatively on China. I’d recommend going there and seeing it for yourself to make more informed comments on it.

Ganbare! You can do it.

-12 ( +8 / -20 )

But my english was a little bit bad choice.

It is not "who the hell will go to China", better say "who the hell want to go to China"?

Like you said for business.

Some business men probably must go, even they don't want to, but their companies "force" them to go for the sake of business.

16 ( +19 / -3 )

Don’t any people from your ‘home country’ visit China?

No one that I know personally.

15 ( +18 / -3 )

Who the hell will go to China?

I’m guessing a lot for business and pleasure. I’ll go and see a few old friends and business acquaintances over there before I leave Japan.

Don’t any people from your ‘home country’ visit China? Sounds strange.

-17 ( +4 / -21 )

Good, i didn't plan to go to China in the next 100 years anyway.

23 ( +24 / -1 )

back in, provided they have taken a Chinese-made COVID-19 vaccine.

Complete disgusting utterly decision which reflects quite well how disgusting China can be. No conditions should be made on what vaccine people are using moreover because all major non Chinese vaccines are way more efficient than the Chinese one.

18 ( +20 / -2 )

Will not get this or the Russian vaccine. Even if they were transparent with data, I wouldn't trust it.

15 ( +17 / -2 )

Who the hell will go to China?
