Folks criticizing Trump on trade fail to keep in mind that there is growing disenchantment in the US as well as many other western countries with the free trade regime which has brought prosperity to the millions in countries like China, Vietnam and India at the cost of many in OECD countries who have faced stagnant wages or redundant jobs due to outsourcing. This has nothing to do with Trump. Trump did not bring this situation about, he merely gave a voice to folks who were being ignored before. To an extent, Sanders did the same.

With Biden set to take office in January, there are hopes of greater American engagement with APEC and other international institutions.

Greater engagement but Biden will not be in a hurry to rejoin the TPP since he got a lot of support from the Rust Belt states which have faced the brunt of manufacturing jobs moving to China.

GOOD!  China should leading the world to prevent fallen like the 1929 Crisis and the World at War!

Donald Trump's presidency is worst than Herbert Hoover, we are at a critical times! with uneasy task to recover from the COVID19 epidemics! A leader must stood up to lead this role but who? China!

China's government has about as much credibility to "lead" as Trump does. Beijing is quite literally 100% responsible for creating a world wide pandemic in the first place due to the CCP's own hypocritical incompetence! And that doesn't even cover the other deceitful and destructive behavior that China has done under the rule of the CCP.

The only reason other countries in the region are agreeing to a devil's contract is because incompetent US leadership, and basic greed that money overwhelms common sense.

Biden needs to be very smart about how to deal with the CCP. I really like China as a country, the culture, and the potential of the people... but I have absolutely nothing but disgust for the CCP which is equal to my disgust for Trump.
