I seriously doubt the Australians right now would even want Chinese visitors.

I'm sure the Aussies aren't complaining.

No country in the world wants any chinese travelers now!

I thought China badly needs more foods from Australia, the US and others. I wonder if China can produce enough foods to feed its own people there? I heard China boycotts some foods from the US.

The World Health Organization has bowed to calls from most of its member states to launch an independent probe into how it managed the international response to the virus, which was first found in China late last year. The evaluation would stop short of looking into contentious issues such as the origins of the virus.

The WHO has bowed to calls from it's member states to launch an "independent" probe into the WHO's own early handling/mismanagement of virus from Wuhan, China. BUT will stop short of actually looking for the origin of the virus because that might upset China. The World Health Organization should start acting as an independent organization concerned with the world's health.

China thinks she can screw anyone for profit, the world really needs to teach that bloated country a lesson!

China's economy is in a recession of 10% now. This means many less people have the money to travel overseas. Even they want to travel, good luck in finding an airline flying them in an offerable price. Then the safety of flying in a crammed aircraft also put off many people. So no chinese tourist is coming here anyway but in the first place.

China is advising its citizens not to visit Australia, citing racial discrimination and violence against Asians,

The CCP talking about racial discrimination and violence? That is rich.

Feel free to stay away China. Have your own barbies ay. Knock yourselves out. Aussies Not a big fan of anyone playing the victim card. It’s all a bit ho hum and is more a reflection of a persons character than actual reality. Australia been Called the rough diamond of the world. Stay that way! Gotta be able to have thick skin, laugh at yourself a bit and take as good as you give it. Pretty simple.

universities will need another business plan. Bit of withdrawal symptoms but a leaner, smarter education system will be the result. Education should have never become a business anyway. We are seeing the results of this across many fronts as we speak.

Cashed up Chinese will come anyway. Just watch.

Screw China....just a pity that Australia whored itself to the Chinese...

Well, Australia is not the only country doing it. Money talks, mate.

The CCP wouldn't want to have 1.3 billion hungry people for too long......

The whole world needs to stop buying cheap Chinese junk. And junk it really is. China may well end up shooting its self in the foot.

Anyway, its a bit rich coming from a country that has murdered thousands, if not millions in its own country. The world is on to you China.

Reading some comments above simply made me shake my head and laugh! Some much haters for China and the Chinese people that this blindfolds the reality. Economies of many countries rely on China and the Chinese people deeply. Without doing trade with China and the money from the Chinese tourist the economy will suffer and this will bring hardship to the people in the long run! Look at Japan for example, since closing the border to China ( personally I’m glad but disappointed that it took so long ) the tourist sectors has basically collapsed because more than 50% of tourist are from China. Restaurants have closed, hotels have no guests and closing and department store sales took a dramatic fall. This has led to job losses! Australia made a mistake by being the US puppets and fought with China. The Trump administration was simply diverting attention from its failure to deal with the outbreak by blaming WHO yet other countries didn’t realize it and joined the call. WHO might have its faults wasn’t the ones to be blamed for this because they had already declared a pandemic and requested countries to take immediate precautions by early Feb. But countries such as the US were reluctant to do so and failed to take action. Now Governments of many countries are looking for a scrape goat and blaming WHO to try to shift attention from their own failures. Bottom line is that the US can afford a trade war with China but other countries like Australia can’t! Yet, the Australian Government didn’t realized the depth of the situation and jumped in. It’s not going to end well for Australia and the current Prime ministers time is limited!

Japan will take your Aussie beef...

The market for Aussie beef in Japan isn’t so big and do you know how much import tax is imposed by the Japanese Government on this? It’s really a no brainer to compare Japan importing Aussie beef in the same quantity as China ( not even 10% of it ). Forget about Australian barley because nobody buys as much of this as China! Bottom line is that countries need China for economic growth!

@Jim... finally found a sensible comment here! Well written mate!

You are right but the Chinese government is using its economic power to further its own political agenda. But I guess USA is doing it, too.

The barley trade was huge a few years ago but due to dought in Australia and worsening relationship with China it is much smaller now. It is one thing the Australian government is willing to drop in its stoush against China.

The biggest Australian export to China is the iron ore trade and recently its price has risen. This is because Brazil, another big iron ore exporter, is revaged by Covid-19 and China cannot do without iron ore.

Bottom line is that the US can afford a trade war with China but other countries like Australia can’t!

It is China who wants a trade war. Australia has never imposed any tariff or boycott against Chinese products.

It is the government that I do not like. However, the thinking of many Chinese people are appalling. They have no regards of basic human rights and freedoms. Accusing any their follow country man voicing against their government of being traitors. And when they are critised by others they retaliated by saying we are not coming to your country or buying your produces or playing the race card.

Economic sanctions were more frequently employed by US before and now. now come the tendency China is becoming a new main owner of Economic sanctions. economy and livelihood are for the benefit of mass common people. the political cycles should find way to avoid this mutually harming approaches, politicans should not be lost in their idealogical persuit ignoring real needs of their people.

Allowing China to become entrenched in a position of economic power over the world is a much worse option as China will cause more pain to the world from that position. Better to cut out a rotten patch than to lose an arm or a leg.

Short term pain for long term gain is an acceptable trade off in this instance.

The biggest reason why China as an economic super power is a bad idea because donald trump is China's "Spirit Animal" not the "Dragon".

And if Australia stopped shipping coal to China??? That would bring the dragon down.

It might mean less contamination in the atmosphere for a start. The whole planet benefits from that.

You mean the selfish people that go into pharmacies and supermarkets and bulk buy all the baby formula and bulk send them back to China, so many local Aussies can't get their hands on baby formula? Yes, please - stay away. Chinese visitors that do this tarnish the image of good Aussie-Chinese residents in Australia.
