What is the UK saying about about this?

Very little, understandably so. They are in no postion to challenge China and they certainly don't want to take back HK. A festering colonial-era sore on the other side of the world would be disastrous. They might join in if condemnation was universal or UN backed I suppose.

The one country, two systems was a constitutional principle that is supposed to last for 50 years (2047).

Beijing has broken that agreement.

I think the UK has the right to take Hong Kong back. I think the majority of the Hong Kong population would support that.

The questions are, does the UK have a moral obligation to support the people of Hong Kong, or is the UK going to wash its hands of it?

Did the UK negotiate and sign this agreement, knowing that they only intended to protect the British business interests for 50 years and the people be damned?

What is the UK saying about about this?

HKI is, was, and always will be part of China. HK is as much a part of China as Texas is part of the US.

They have no interest in being part of China. It's their country. Why should they have to be part of China if they don't want to? By what justification?

The only justification is oppression. There is no ethical justification for China to have any control over HK whatsoever when the people of HK want to be free.

It's troubling that China thinks it's ok to be making these proclamations publicly. It shows a complete lack of respect of the freedom of speech we value so much in other countries. The tiger is showing its teeth. We need to either discipline it, or kick it out of the house. We cannot allow it to keep growling at us in our own houses.

"Apple has to think about the consequences of its unwise and reckless decision," the article said.

Like the Communist Party of China does when teenagers are shot on Hong Kong streets?

I loved South Park's take on Chinese censorship:

Apple is a sell out, I recommend no one buy Apple products, they just don't care about people and this shows it.

What shows it? I'm seeing an article talking about Chinese criticism of Apple allowing an app the HK protestors are using - how is this selling out? Other than that, no actions of Apple are listed in the article at all. So how exactly have they sold out?

1 ( +1 / -0 )

The world absolutely MUST not accede to China's demands for censorship. We must stand strong that the right to free speech includes the right to criticize governments for their actions and behaviors. Remember, this is the country that has eliminated any references within China to the CCP's massacre of student protestors at Tienanmen Square in 1989. The use censorship as a means of control. Are we going to let them control the rest of us in the world? For a few dollars?

There comes a point where business ethics collide with profits. Companies must stand on the side of ethics and not sell freedom of speech in return for Chinese profits.

1.399999999 billion silenced Chinese are rooting for HK in their drive for freedom.

Fight the terrorist CPP HK! You deserve your freedom!

Folks, I'm not fan of commies, but realistically, China has its concern with its humongous population base,

it has to be strictly controlled /censored in every sense from the start, otherwise, it'll spread like a wild fires and that spell disaster or wars that many of you in the west / Japan wish to see. We are lucky that China do not export its revolution ideas, nor does China export refugees, poverty to the free world. Stop instigating or collaborating all these craps for peace sake.

.... similarities to the Nazi Party of the 1930's / 40's....

Where do you think the name Chinazi comes from?

0 ( +0 / -0 )

@yakyak - China does not suck, but the regime that controls the Chinese Peoples at present does "suck".

Granted that there are "differences" in attitudes, towards for example, etiquette which the CCP hasn't encouraged upon it's populace todate, but that is somewhat understandable given the misnomer of the... "Cultural Revolution" started by Mao, and Xi would appear to be leading China back towards those times. (Hint: Look at the number of Chinese CEO's who are leaving the helms of their Companies, and actually ending up in some fatal situation too.. [for the protection of their family ?])

0 ( +0 / -0 )

For those in the US who say "it's not going to happen"... take a look around you... it IS happening.. your OWN Companies are cowtieing to the Chinese CP dictates. ... Fake News ? Just look at those Companies own websites where an "apology to China" is written. This isn't a Republican/Democrat issue.. it's your own issue to decide, based upon what you believe in. Is it right that you can be told that your own belief is wrong, without unequivocal justification ?

The Flat-Earther's Society still exist even though they've been given evidence, yet they are not being forced to change their opinion... why should the rest of the World have to change their view to match that of the CCP ?

1 ( +1 / -0 )

Just say NO to communism. Sent from my iPhone...…..

1 ( +2 / -1 )

China is trying to control everyone. Not gonna happen.

1 ( +2 / -1 )

Its only the CCP Political Kenpeitai who have access to the Internet to locate these posts, and make threats against those who posted them. The CCP is showing similarities to the Nazi Party of the 1930's / 40's... It's time for them to go to where they belong....

Big companies will have to make a critical choice to surrender to the bully to continue to make big money from cheap labor or to pay more respect to Human Rights including democracy (which most of them claim in their PR).

This is even more valid for the NBA

Mu experience with "Made in China" is - either it does not work, does not work well, or does not last long and soon quits.

HK protests is forcing CCP to show its full color.

What is more important, Xi's ego, or the well-being of the Chinese economy? If current events are any indication, the dictator is more concerned with his image than with the health of his nation's economy.

1 ( +2 / -1 )

The communist is now controlling the capitalist using its own medicine, profit. Don't we live in "interesting" time ?

Chinese government keeps giving China a bad name abroad. Not really good for their long term desires.

HKI is, was, and always will be part of China. HK is as much a part of China as Texas is part of the US.

But all of US is a democracy, in China, only HK is.

0 ( +4 / -4 )

I repeat, HK was part of China until annexed by Britain after the First Opium War. HK was RETURNED to China, not annexed by China. China is the legitimate sovereignty of HK.

It was leased, not annexed. Be thankful of that, back in the day we never used to bother with leases, we just nicked it.

Of course you could argue that China is actually a part of Taiwan, not vice versa. As such HK is their domain, not China's. Therefore China annexed HK, like it did with Taklamakan Desert, Tibet, and the South China Sea.

Don't assume for 700mil HKers.

700 million? I don't assume your facts are correct.

the mouthpiece of the ruling Communist Party, highlighted" Very disrespectful, but typical of anti-China propaganda.

What is your take on this particular publication and how familiar are you with it?

What description would you use for it?

3 ( +4 / -1 )

HKI is, was, and always will be part of China. HK is as much a part of China as Texas is part of the US.

Tell that to the Hongkongers. HK people despise Chinese in the same level as the rest of the world. They don't want to associate themselves with the Chinese. They don't even speak the same dialect.

12 ( +13 / -1 )

Can you list all the territories that China has "grabbed", so we can compare with other nations.

Taklamakan Desert, Tibet, and the South China Sea.

Boy Next Door: "China hates it when others intervene yet it's busy grabbing territories here and there. SMH.

One day the whole world peoples of all colour and race will live in harmony.

In Chinese re education camps. Proudly sponsored by multinational corporations.

This morning it was China blasting the NBA and now it's Apple. They need to quit threatening people and companies. They're the ones who've broken every promise to be more tolerant. The world gave them the Olympics and countless world championship events but they're just as ruthless as they've ever been.

14 ( +15 / -1 )

Go Apple Go. do it, don't let the CCP how to run your business corporate or otherwise. I strongly support Apple and any US company that stands up to China.

10 ( +11 / -1 )

Shouldn't the rest of the world demand China to be more democratic instead of China demanding the world to be less democratic?

14 ( +16 / -2 )

however, there is far too much money to be made in China for these companies to do the right thing.

Ain't that the sad truth.

But people have reason to assume that Apple is mixing business with politics, and even illegal acts," it said.

Ironically, what they really mean is that we insist that you mix business with politics (as long as it's our politics)

4 ( +6 / -2 )

Dangerous game China is playing now. Given all the recent events, the current concepts of brand association, and customer taste, the term Made In China might be deemed toxic. It would be interesting to watch young ones seeing how far they could push a #chinafree lifestyle in the mainstream.

7 ( +8 / -1 )

Wouldn't it be fabulous if Cathay, Apple, Tiffany, The NBA and every other entity in the world just told them to go and screw themselves for a couple of years.

Yes, it would be; however, there is far too much money to be made in China for these companies to do the right thing.

6 ( +7 / -1 )

Apple has it two legs on 2 boats. It is just business for apple. But no one can stand safetly with two legs on 2 boats.

6 ( +8 / -2 )

Now now everyone, you need to remember that the leaders of the CCP are delicate and easily offended. It's not their fault they were raised with no feelings of self worth and can recklessly lash out at those it loves. Some quiet time and a bath might calm them down.

7 ( +10 / -3 )

From a country that has a long running military-run industrial espionage department the CCP have got some wheels on them talking about business & politics.

Wouldn't it be fabulous if Cathay, Apple, Tiffany, The NBA and every other entity in the world just told them to go and screw themselves for a couple of years.

12 ( +14 / -2 )

I love how propaganda from authoritarian Asian states includes words like reckless. It's so descriptive.

Agreed with the other posters above.

15 ( +17 / -2 )

China sucks

11 ( +14 / -3 )

Another Western corporation that Winnie and his Chinazi regime are trying to bully and censor.....

9 ( +12 / -3 )

China hates it when others intervene yet it's busy grabbing territories here and there. SMH.

12 ( +14 / -2 )

China's state media accused

And every day we read posts from those attacking a free, for-profit press while pushing for authoritarian systems to replace the ones built on democratic principles. Imagine if China and Russia actually pair up - even more.

11 ( +11 / -0 )

And given Apple and many US and non-US companies have helped you get out of your misery and that Apple is behind thousands of jobs in China, your leaders and stupid media should shut the hell up right now.

18 ( +20 / -2 )

A message to you China: go to hell.....

19 ( +22 / -3 )

Next you are going to hear that China will be complaining about the people who post..................

19 ( +20 / -1 )

Can't the CCP ever stop whining?

17 ( +20 / -3 )

"Nobody wants to drag Apple into the lingering unrest in Hong Kong.

But we're gonna do it.
