Very little, understandably so. They are in no postion to challenge China and they certainly don't want to take back HK. A festering colonial-era sore on the other side of the world would be disastrous. They might join in if condemnation was universal or UN backed I suppose.

The one country, two systems was a constitutional principle that is supposed to last for 50 years (2047).

Beijing has broken that agreement.

I think the UK has the right to take Hong Kong back. I think the majority of the Hong Kong population would support that.

The questions are, does the UK have a moral obligation to support the people of Hong Kong, or is the UK going to wash its hands of it?

Did the UK negotiate and sign this agreement, knowing that they only intended to protect the British business interests for 50 years and the people be damned?

HKI is, was, and always will be part of China. HK is as much a part of China as Texas is part of the US.

They have no interest in being part of China. It's their country. Why should they have to be part of China if they don't want to? By what justification?

The only justification is oppression. There is no ethical justification for China to have any control over HK whatsoever when the people of HK want to be free.

It's troubling that China thinks it's ok to be making these proclamations publicly. It shows a complete lack of respect of the freedom of speech we value so much in other countries. The tiger is showing its teeth. We need to either discipline it, or kick it out of the house. We cannot allow it to keep growling at us in our own houses.

What shows it? I'm seeing an article talking about Chinese criticism of Apple allowing an app the HK protestors are using - how is this selling out? Other than that, no actions of Apple are listed in the article at all. So how exactly have they sold out?

The world absolutely MUST not accede to China's demands for censorship. We must stand strong that the right to free speech includes the right to criticize governments for their actions and behaviors. Remember, this is the country that has eliminated any references within China to the CCP's massacre of student protestors at Tienanmen Square in 1989. The use censorship as a means of control. Are we going to let them control the rest of us in the world? For a few dollars?

There comes a point where business ethics collide with profits. Companies must stand on the side of ethics and not sell freedom of speech in return for Chinese profits.

But all of US is a democracy, in China, only HK is.

I repeat, HK was part of China until annexed by Britain after the First Opium War. HK was RETURNED to China, not annexed by China. China is the legitimate sovereignty of HK.

It was leased, not annexed. Be thankful of that, back in the day we never used to bother with leases, we just nicked it.

Of course you could argue that China is actually a part of Taiwan, not vice versa. As such HK is their domain, not China's. Therefore China annexed HK, like it did with Taklamakan Desert, Tibet, and the South China Sea.
