The style of delivery of these Chinese press statements is more like a redneck with a shotgun. It’s often over the top. In the Dukes of Hazzard style, it’s not so much offensive as entertaining. Many here are bunched up like Wang Yi is himself. Why be similar?

China’s now has the assertiveness and is more draconian than in 1989. How many babies have they needlessly thrown out with the bath water? The Chinese have this hillbilly side to them and will use a shot gun to kill a fly on a wall. Look at their Covid lockdowns.

You’re arrested and thrown in prison even if your religion is not as evil as this unification church.

Some groceries will be returned with the carts but all carts will be returned. Good apples will be thrown out with the bad ones but no bad apples will remain.

You’re boarded up and wielded into your own home if you try to go out during a lockdown. Take a sledgehammer to crack a walnut.

Sounds Appalachian but they get the job done. Those who try and drink cool-aid are kept on close surveillance. No Jim Jones, David Koresch or Asahara Shoko.

It’s the job of the government to clamp down on these cults. And when the CCP goes after the Falungong cult to nip it in the bud, the US holds up the human rights card.

It’s definitely not the CCP. The next Chinese government no doubt will be authoritarian. If not, they wouldn’t be able to rule. Spots on a leopard don’t change.

Yeah, let's do it all OURSELVES.

I would be happy to go back in the military Let foreign residents join JSDF, and we can do it all OURSELVES.

There's plenty of foreign residents in Asian countries that are ex military.

You better keep THAT in mind china.

Lots of Chinese leaders are insecure, they would have a melt down,if confronted by hell raising American citizens

Washington says it remains committed to its One China policy and does not encourage independence for Taiwan

If true, it seem unhelpful.

To develop friendly relations among nations based on respect for the principle of equal rights and self-determination of peoples.

Whatever happened to that idea?

"We should insulate this region from geopolitical calculations… from being used as chess pieces from major power rivalry and from coercion,"

Coercion or raw force? In recent times, we've seen the CCP overthrow the Hong Kong election process, beat Chinese citizens, refuse freedom of travel for Chinese and Tibetans, lock down tens of millions of poeple for 60+ days inside their own cities BY FORCE, work on many abuses of the Uyghur people, and take innocent Chinese business people (Li Jiaqi) off their online platform due to ignorance about Chinese history that the CCP scrubbed and never taught.

The CCP routinely says 1 thing in English, but a completely different thing in Mandarin, intended for internal consumption. China has been blaming every other country in the world for their issues. They are stoking the "us vs them" aspects, which is one of the easiest basic human traits to get control over.

Each country should be able to direct their future without any fear. In the region, China is causing more fear than anyone else, including NK (a pawn of China).

I wish for the best, fairest, life full of joy for Chinese people, but not for their govt. People should be allowed to determine their own representatives and form of govt. The CCP govt has stacked the laws in a way that no other organized group will ever gain any power. If saying anything negative is illegal, which it is, how can any opposition point out flaws?

Countries should decide for themselves but USA under the leadership of a senile old man ? Hhmmmm

Let's replace "China" with "CCP", since it's actually the latter that has brainwashed most Chinese decent people, and keeps them within its' thumbscrews.

Chinese People, are in the main, just like you and me, (hopefully) decent folks. However, they have a Ruling faction, that offers limited freedom and takes what it wants when it wants, and does what it wants to whomsoever it wants to do so to.

This sadly, reflects badly upon Chinese People, since as the UK & US Government Security Agencies have rightly asserted, there are some of them, who are amongst us, who can not be "trusted" - partly due to membership of the Chinese Military, but also, because of persuasive coercion through threats to Family back home... something that shouldn't be overlooked.

With hope, the CCP will be ousted and replaced with something better.

The.....irony......so thick.....can't breathe......

China is sick everything about the country is going wrong, the floods, the banks, covid, and the people can't get their hard earned money out of the banks. Only a fool would trust the government. Now I see why those who can get their money and get out do it fast!!

No good ending for America when the POTUS is an old, tired and confused like Joe biden(He reminds me Jimmy Carter 1979). With the abrupt ending of Shinzo Abe.....seems the tide is turning favouring to the Peoples Republic of China.

I wonder if the Axis powers thought the same thing about FDR? He was in a wheelchair, old and extremely tired.

Time and Time again people in history has counted The United States out. And time and time again it bounces back stronger.

"The future of our region should be in our own hands."

Guess he's thinking for too long the future of Asia has not been in their hands. Just look at Japan and how the gov is propped up and has never changed since it was installed

Actually it has. And even then, it has changed far more times than China (PRC), where any party other than the CCP is illegal.

China warns Asian nations to avoid being used as 'chess pieces' by big powers

So in other words, since China likes to count itself among the big powers, Asian nations should be wary of China, first and foremost.

China is looking for the contracting and demise of US hegamony, at least in the Pacific.

China is creating its own hegemony around the world based primarily on controlling trade, but backed up by its ever growing military forces and belligerent actions.

The conflict between Us & Russia over Ukraine and eastern Europe is a perfect timing, a perfect storm!

The US is not in conflict with Russia. Russia is invading Ukraine. Many nations around the world are providing assistance to Ukraine including the US who is able to provide more assistance than anyone, being the number one economy and military in the world.

With the abrupt ending of Shinzo Abe.....seems the tide is turning favouring to the Peoples Republic of China.

That is amusing as I see the tide turning against the Peoples Republic of China. More protests over covid and banks in financial trouble withholding peoples life savings and Xi in a shaky position internally as more and more line up to oppose his rule.

@OssanAmerica: What does China think it is doing?

How modest China is!

Dear China,

Please look up the meaning of the phrase, "pot-kettle-black" and then come back and comment.

Thank you,

(Signed all the Asian countries affected by China's game of chess! Oh sorry China plays "go" not chess! My bad!)

10 ( +12 / -2 )

What does China think it is doing?

13 ( +20 / -7 )

I guess they'd rather everyone play Chinese checkers instead.

The days of the Great Game are back again.

The British Empire has been replaced by the US and Tsarist Russia has been replaced by China but the more things change the more they remain the same.

The irony of Communist, totalitarian China that is bullying its way to world dominance, telling smaller ASEAN nations to be wary of other nations.

No one in ASEAN trusts China.

We stand with independent, free Taiwan.

21 ( +26 / -5 )

China is looking for pawns, others are looking for partners, peace and stability.

Stay away from China and reduce economic contact and reliance on China.

China's warning is actually more applicable to China itself rather than anyone else. How's that for irony.

23 ( +25 / -2 )

Look who is preaching ,The country which is mainly responsible for Sri Lanka's Bankruptcy

19 ( +21 / -2 )

Exactly. China wants to dominate and can more easily do so if there is no Asian NATO bloc. Yes. Dont become pawns - of China.

25 ( +27 / -2 )

"Don't be a pawn, we need to bully you as easily as possible!"
