This was a visit to show off his muscle to his potential enemies and show that he is tough and in charge.

He has many enemies - mostly internal. With the economy slowing, the demographic aging, and no friends abroad, revelation of his, his family, and his cronies' wealth could be a spark. He's clearly trying to dampen that.

Bad idea. Civilian control of the military means no active duty military man can hold office. Dressing up like a soldier only degrades that Wall of Separation.

I think China's move is exactly within the US expectation.

Instead of prancing around in battle dress the unelected dictator and crook Xi should be wearing prison uniform and serving time, along with the rest of his family, for theft and corruption.
