After Jan 6th the parallels between Hong Kong and Washington are not that different. In both cases you have a riotous mob breaching the parliament causing significant damage and chaos. In both cases you have legislators reacting (or overreacting) with new laws to crack down on the perpetrators. In both cases you see attempts to disqualify the riot leaders from ever holding political office again.

Of course, some people will quibble with the comparison because they're heavily invested in the politics of one side or another, but both governments have reacted in predictably similar ways to an insurrectionist threat. As I said at the time, the storming of Legco was a suicidal move for the pro-democracy movement in Hong Kong.

Democracy is dead in Hong Kong and the CCP also sees kidnapping and secret trials as ‘reasonable’ too-nuff said...

Democracy isn’t what a bunch of Communist apparatchiks think is “reasonable” It’s what the governed consent to through free and fair elections.

If I were a Hong Konger, and today I am really glad I’m not, I’d be unwinding my positions and on the next flight to any Western-style democracy that would take me.

But of course he would. He would also love to introduce a CCP style social credit system and censorship in the West. Alas, our Big Tech and big money companies are in agreement and already implementing it.

China’s business is China’s business. Imagine if China criticized USA for its treatment of black people? Or immigrants?

As a black man living in the US, take a hard long look in the mirror yourself. At least here we can call out racism, and strive to be better. In the US I have a voice, and actually have protections from racism, prejudice, and bigotry. China under the CCP... nowhere near as capable of making steps towards improvement. How is the CCP treating Africans and African immigrants again?

There is a saying, "Before pointing fingers at others, know that there will be at least 2 other fingers pointing back at you..."

Bringing up the treatment of black people in defense of the CCP is pretty rich. You might want to read some of the experiences of black people in mainland China right now. The discrimination is so blatant, it is almost unbelievable.

Now China is defending the reason for the mess it has created. Really is that the justification for hundreds of deaths and injured? I don’t understand why China has the habit of interfering in other territories. And how it invade after the world is well aware about its expansion policy.

Beijing has moved quickly to dismantle the financial hub's democratic pillars in response to huge protests that paralysed the city for months.

No doubt this was always the plan once dictator Xi came to power. No doubt at all. Xi isn't patient. Couldn't wait until 2047. He needed a HK power grab to get payoffs sooner.
