Well, yes, they would love some bases and some business for 6-10 in the world's arms manufacturers.

Whats good for the goose, is good for the gander.

China is Africa's top business partner, with $167.8 billion worth of trade in the first quarter of 2024, official Chinese media reported.

Beijing has sent hundreds of thousands of workers and engineers to Africa and gained strategic access to its vast mineral riches including copper, gold and lithium.

Much improvement compared to previous powers stripping and stealing resources from Africa. You develop relations through trade and pay for resources not rob them of their resources.

This is very normal, China has been the arsenals of freedom for many years. We sent arms to North Korea North Vietnam Pakistan Iran Iraq Serbia and parts to Russia in recent years. We helping those countries fighting for their freedom.

The African leaders understood western countries were sowing slavery and racism over Africans in Africa. Their so called freedom and democracies were the rebranding of racism. Only China is the hope of Africans and only the Chinese will deal with them fairly. The Chinese never practiced racism and slave trades in history !

"China will firmly support Africans in addressing African issues in the African way, African people are the real masters of this continent," Wang said after talks with Tinubu.

Very different to the US and ex colonizer European way.

That's a very imaginative headline. Wang Yi continues a decades long practice of Chinese FMs of visiting the African continent in January first before traveling elsewhere.

The geopolitical rivalry that has played out in Africa between former colonial rulers and nations like China, Russia and Turkey, has intensified since a wave of military coups toppled leaders in multiple West African countries in recent years.

This is an interesting assertion with zero supporting evidence. One commonality of the three countries listed in the quote is that none of them was a colonial powers in Africa.

I support economic aid and social system assistance.

Wary of MORE arms into Africa....the continent has seen all manner of wars and civil strife in past decades...all using weapons from overseas.

But this is RealPolitic and the way of the world now.

All talk of peace between nations long forgotten

Meanwhile there have been running battles, riots and the burning of Chinese businesses in other parts of Africa blessed with Chinas warmhearted investment.

China further embedding its corrupt claws into uneducated and further corrupt african leaders who know nothing better.

china is the last country to look at for support regarding freedom. Let's not forget covid was china's fault and it hurt us all. Never forgive

If memory serves, on a similar thread a few days ago someone mentioned a quote - something like

"When China visits, we get a bridge. When America visits, we get a lecture"; the implication being that China brings useful things, like, not weapons, whereas America only provides things used in war.

This seems like a change in direction.

Here we go, China following in the footsteps of Russia and the West. it was only a matter of time before China starts joining the Military Industrial Complex clans.

And this is supposed to be good news?

Just because China is smiling and bearing gifts, their ambitions and desires are no different to 19th century Europe.

there is request and there is supply.

How was Africa under European colonisation?

Maybe, China will do things better?

asked China to use its "influence" for Nigeria to gain a permanent seat at the UN Security Council.

What influence? Nigeria can just get in line behind all the other nations wanting a permanent set on the UNSC, like Japan, Germany, India, Brazil and more.

The UN needs to be scrapped and a new world body formed with no nation being a veto wielding nation in any form on any council. That is the only way a truly equal system can be created and every nations voice holding equal rights and weight.

Clause 1 being nations involved in conflicts are excluded from all votes until such time as the conflict is ended.

Beware of strangers baring gifts

As long as they bring commerce and new trades. The world economies cannot take the warmongering to another continent. Let the Americans deal with their business in the Middle East

Quite different from Leopoldo II in Congo. P

Just ask anyone who has received "free help" from China, if it was worth it over the long term. Then make your decision.

Typically this help comes with many thousands of Chinese workers who setup their own logistics to being Chinese-made components, ship in Chinese cooks, with Chinese foods, setup Chinese-only shopping, which aren't available to locals in the poorer countries. This has been documented in Africa.

Africa needs to handle their own things. I'd love if any profits from natural resources where 50% shared with the country forever, so they can create an educated, smart, people, who can have infrastructure built by anyone they choose, and hold the builders to the highest standards for conduct and results. That's my hope.
