It’s great that China wants to start a war?

That's great, but the US doesn't mess around either, so China try for some professionalism.

An RC-135 is a Boeing 707, modified for USAF use. It flies like an airliner. That's a very old jet with a bunch of electronics on board capable of listening pretty far away. They are unarmed.

A professional Chinese Airforce would send an interceptor and trail/monitor the USAF plane for as long as they like and are in international airspace. It isn't like the RC-135 doesn't know every aircraft within 150 miles of it between it's onboard instruments and satellite links.

Of course, if the USAF plane crosses the 12nm boundary, then China has a good reason to complain. Other than that, they need to fly safely, keeping a reasonable distance for safety and definitely never directly ahead or behind each other by at least a mile.

A senior U.S. defense official, speaking on the condition of anonymity, said that since 2021 China had declined or not responded to over a dozen requests to talk with the Pentagon.

China thinks they are the only ones that matter. Well, nuclear war will end both our countries so they had better grow up real fast.

At least the goober didn't hit the plane this time unlike the "hero" that flew into a PC-3 in 01 killing himself and requiring the US crew to make an emergency landing in Hainan.

And of course unlike the goober from the Russian Air Farce, he didn't hit the plane while splashing it with fuel.

So at least this one had semi-competent airmanship.

But his hot-dogging is for naught. The United States will sail and fly anywhere legally allowed by international law and these built up sand piles are not recognized by the UN.

If the patrol aircraft need a fighter escort in the future, they will get one. But the PLAF is not going to nudge the US out of the S. China Sea.

There is ZERO chance that the pilots (Russian or Chinese) flying in these dangerous ways did it without an order from their base. Zero chance. The CCP military told him to harass the USAF by getting close. No question.

The non-Chinese allies will be flying in international airspace routinely now and long after the CCP is gone.

This reminds me of the 2001 Hainan Island incident in which a U.S. Navy reconnaissance aircraft and a Chinese intercept fighter jet clashed in midair near the Hainan Island. The U.S. aircraft made an emergency landing on Hainan Island with all the crew members safe and uninjured while the Chinese jet fighter fell into the sea, the pilot’s whereabouts still unknown.
