“a breach of truth, breach of logic, breach of ethics, breach of civilised behavior and breach of diplomatic etiquette, and makes it hard to believe this country has thousands of years of civilisation” Courageous and free thinking Chinese citizens like that commentator are heroes. He is 100% correct and what he said could apply to almost all CCP policy and thinking.

If Chinese are attacking him so viciously, he must be an even greater person than I had originally thought...

This shows even more that any idea of the CCP "uniting and mobilizing" people is a ridiculous and perverse idea and that they continue to be ever more desperate to be seen as "the pinnacle of morality" in Chinese society.

The fact that other Chinese were quick to savage this paper, I consider a very good thing.

The only black core in this issue is the CCP and its consistent blaming of others, in their views, they are the CCP, they are incapable of doing any wrong...

But the official agency wrote that "once Locke arrived, so did the Beijing smog".

WOW! I MEAN WOW!!!

Sounds like the wingnut mentality of the tobacco industry's logic. Smoking related cancers didn't start to kill people until doctors got involved at hospitals finding cancer. I mean really, who throws a shoe?!

So, I guess when people start to die in droves around Beijing from respiratory illnesses and cancer, China will blame western medicine, or will it be democracy or will it be freedom of the press or the internet or how about ANY interest that is outside of China's control caused the deaths created by the Chinese made smog?

Let the little people be little people.

He is an American first, no matter what his ethnicity is. I think the Chinese media needs to realize this.

Locke was viewed as a trailblazer in highlighting the PM 2.5 particulate matter carried in the thick blankets of smog pervading China’s capital.

Good for him.

The banana business sounds a lot like American street talk. African-Americans and Native Americans accused of selling out to "The Man" were called, respectively "Orio's" and "apples," while accused Asian-Americans were, yes, called "bananas." This not the sort of language responsible activists used in public. Where the official PRC news agency picked up this sort of language one can only guess. Wherever they did it shows that the people running the PRC are like the provincial twits running Japan.

Whatever else Locke did or did not do I am glad he said something about China's industrial pollution, which now hanging dangerously over Japan.

How does an ethnic Chinese end up with the name Gary Locke? Just curious. Good on him - I hope the US replaces him with someone else willing to shake things up there, and get people questioning the mega-rich people greedily running the show in China.

China really is a disgraceful country. That a state controlled editorial can make such rascist comments is unbelievable. Mr Locke , an American is not only proud of his Chinese heritage but actually cares if the Chinese people can breathe. Contrast this to the hordes of ethnic Chinese who flood the internet daily supporting the aggression of the CCP dictatorship.

If Chinese are attacking him so viciously, he must be an even greater person than I had originally thought...

Its hard to understate the impact Locke has had, just by his sheer presence alone. The sight of a high ranking official of Chinese ancestry carrying his own luggage and doing his own shopping was utterly mind-blowing for a lot of Chinese. He's been a media obsession ever since he stepped off the plane; and he's made Chinese officials look bad, bad, bad, by comparison - just by acting like a normal person. Is there any doubt why the Chinese government hates him? He's done more to undermine the Communist Party just by picking up a suitcase than any amount of rhetoric or political posturing could possibly have achieved.

Looks like everyone's fair game as far as Chinese media goes... maybe we should create a poll to guess who they will insult next.

China must thank God for having this man who brought a little light to the country . He is a banana , so what ? extremely useful and versatile fruit. Western money you like, western technology you welcome , western cloth you wear...all Chinese Americans are banana , only at different levels, more or less.

Who does the state media intend to convince? What is the size of the ignorant uneducated masses who swallow this bull? Or should I wonder what the size is of the ignorant uneducated mass who print this bull?

The problem is Communist Chinese Government and its mouth piece do not accept universal International law and they only accept Communist's rubber Law. Relationship with Communist Chinese Government will be always looking like married to Crazy woman. Someday is okay but someday she will make you mad too.

Don't worry too much and don't pay too much attention on Communist Chinese Government's mouth piece complaint because they are world most complaining Government on the earth.

@Burakumin

"Locke" is an anglicized version of the Chinese surname "Lok". His grandfather was very eager to assimilate into American society.

"Gary" is a given name... you call your kids whatever you want.

This is a full of hate and BS from China. What it means is that Locke DID a great job. In old quote in the west says that a strong boss is often hated.

Thank you for a great service, Mr. Gary Locke.

classy, China! this is China at it's best.

@Des

Perhaps his mother remarried and he took his step-father's name?

Apparently he and his family were seen on TV carrying their own luggage, instead of serfs, I mean aides, carry it for them (I kid you not) and the common people started making remarks about The Party (note how this is singular in the enlightened communist paradise called China where some are apparently more equal than others). Chuck in the insistence about the 2.5 monitors and aiding a dissident - it's no wonder they hated this guy.

Stay classy China.

@BurakuminDes & ReformerBasher - How does an ethnic Chinese end up with the name Gary Locke?

Locke is likely another variation of Lok, Law or Lo. Just like you can have Chan, Chen or Zen. When his grandfather arrived in the US and said his surname to the immigration official, the official likely converted it phonetically to Locke.

Maybe I'm an Egg.... I like Asia! Although I've never heard that slang before.

Regard to his ethnicity and the being the only person of Chinese descent being ambassador to China, he said, "I’m proud of my Chinese heritage. I’m proud of the great contributions that China has made to world civilization over thousands of years. But I’m thoroughly American. I’m proud of the great values that America has brought to the entire world and all that America stands for

He spent early childhood at a project. He had tough time growing up. He is the only Asian Governor and only Asian ,,,,, His last name is from his father. He did not go to university easily. He had to work while he was in HS, etc. Read his story on Wikipedia. China should be proud of him. State of Washington is cold and discriminatory. But China is worse.

But the official agency wrote that “once Locke arrived, so did the Beijing smog”. Are these idiot Chinese communist in power in Beijing really that STUPID?? So Beijing had NO SMOG before the US ambassador ever arrived??? HAHAHAH!! While the Chinese choke on on all of this horrible PM 2.5 they will also keep on spewing PROPAGANDA that not even their own CHINESE CITIZENS even believe!!

But the official agency wrote that 'once Locke arrived, so did the Beijing smog'.

Yeah, because he implemented the use of tools to measure how bad it actually was.....

That's like saying once the oral thermometer was invented, tons of people showing up to hospitals with fevers!!

That is some crazy editorial rhetoric, I wish I could read Chinese to see it in its original print.

He was shoo in for the re-election pf Governor but he declared not to seek re-election in Seattle. Rumor of reason was that he received threatening letters. Threatening included to kill his children, His father was WW II Veteran. His mother was from Hong Kong. So, he sounds half half. In Washington, he was not accepted as an American. In China, yellow banana. I hope he move out his family to any other state in USA.

please get your facts straight - he's not half/half. his father was a chinese-american vet. he received death threats from whites, who don't like seeing a yellow face running their town.

1 ( +2 / -1 )

maglev101: I worte my guess of half half. You cleared me. Anyway, I hope he move out Stateof Washington. Maybe nice warm Calif? SF even have China Town for many years. I mean if he retire from politics.

I'll repeat the sentiment of other posters here: Stay classy, China. Stay classy.

Maybe the Chinese leaders are happy for their own people to wallow in their own filth......?

@maglev101

Thanks for that info. I've heard of cases like that but did not make the connection.

"Y'ar yellow!"

"Na-ah, y'ar yellow!"

" If Chinese are attacking him so viciously, he must be an even greater person than I had originally thought..."

The CCP's mouthpiece attacked him like the US hawks attacked Snowden. The attackers must be cut from the same cloth.
