A true hero of the Chinese people and a victim of the authoritarian CCP dictatorship. I remember watching the Tiananmen Square "uprising" on TV and following the collapse of the USSR, I (naively) thought then that the world was going to change for the better. Instead here I am arguing with supporters of the Chinese dictatorship on a web forum. Question 1- How about statues in memory of Liu Xiaobo all over the world? Question 2- How long would it take for China to take them down? Shame on the Chinese government for their mistreatment and perpetual persecution of this man.

Supporting an authoritarian dictatorship is like supporting cannibalism. It's all great until you find yourself on the menu.

Mr. Liu was a beacon of hope, light, and peaceful, stalwart resistance, in a world gone mad in slavish fealty to dictators, oligarchs and autocrats. Rest in peace, sir, knowing that your efforts were not in vain. This is a sad loss for the world.

When I read news like this I often stop and ponder about just how fortunate we are to be have relatively free speech and not have to worry about dying for what we write or say.

It takes courage, true moral and physical courage, to face the things he did in his life.

I hope he rests in peace, yet I can just imagine, that if there is any afterlife, he will be fighting for the people of his country and the world even then!

I wonder what people like Assange and Snowden would say about that statement.

Their goals seem quite a bit different. They seem to want chaos!

They seem to want chaos

Huh? People who want to create chaos have no principles.

RIP. The Chinese government bears the full responsibility of his death. That the Commies would treat its best people so inhumanely makes it an enemy of the people and should be treated as such

If you'd like to know what would happened with China if people like him take power just look at USSR.

You should make up your mind whether you support free speech or not. Corrupt governments always justify authoritarianism by saying they are preventing chaos. When, in fact, they are slowly sowing it.
