Chinese translation cuts out parts of Obama speech

It's the saddest thing I can conceive as an American to picture over one billion human beings unable to express themselves or command representation in their own government. I hope as China slowly moves towards less extreme policies in regards to democracy and political freedom we will see a fall in censorship as well.

Censorship of any kind is the hiding place of the weak & the corrupt. Here is a man stating his opinion for the world to hear, you, we, anybody is entitled to disagree so long as they do so honestly & openly, but to hide behind censorship tells the world more about the censor than it does about whatever was censored. Any one that is so frightened of another’s words has already lost, it is a sign of the weakness of their position that they cannot justify that position with their own arguments, all they have left to them is the removal of what they cannot defend themselves against. Censorship of any kind, where ever it is found should be fought against, it gives the little people power to keep the ignorant ignorant, to keep the blind blind. Little failures will always use it to keep what they have.

WHEREVER you find it, fight it.

I guess China is planning to stay on the wrong side of history when it comes to civil liberties. This will work as long as the economy is good and the people don't have guns.

they got balls to run a speech like that with no delay. Even when Janet Jackson dances now they put a delay. the translator is now picking wheat in the himalayas for all we know, or milking yaks.

It's kind of hard to imagine... That a country doing nonsense like this hosted those wonderful, Olympic games a little while ago.

Cutting out parts is worse that just not publishing the speech. They can cut and paste to make him say anything. It is dishonest and shows to what lengths the Chinese will go to protect their dictatorship. Makes me wonder what they do to ordinary news?

Good that Chinese Media just cut out parts not the whole speech like Western Media does about leaders of developing countries.

This story reminds me of when I first moved to Japan and the group of Japanese "aid workers" got themselves abducted on '04. The world got an 8 minute video of the hostages. NHK broadcast a heavily censored version which had the abductees statements of "No Koizumi. NO!" removed. The Japanese broadcast version was less than 1 minute. It was not until after the hostages had been freed that the full-length video was broadcast. Nobody asked why it was ok for the government to censor the video, which was widely viewed outside Japan on television. And you think you're free...
