All countries who can destroy another country with nuclear weapons need to have a way to communicate. This is more important when tensions are high. Misunderstandings, which is common in both directions around China, need to be avoided before war breaks out. We constantly see the CCP govt as tone-deaf with their propaganda in English. They are missing so many things that non-Chinese cultures assume, it is scary.

Chinas been around for 5000 years

Not the CCP. There days are numbered. There are mass demonstrations happening in China in the SW Islamic areas now. Xi wants to remove all religion and make himself the "savior" of Chinese. He's delusional, but he will send in the Chinese military to destroy religious buildings that have stood for over a thousand years, tear them down and put up a cheap replica as a museum.

Chinas been around for 5000 years, they can wait.

The PRC hasn't even been around 70 years and, if 1989 is any indication, they won't make it to 100.

They don’t have 100000+ young people dying from Fentanyl each yea

Nice try, but those ain't all young people.

They just have to sit back and let the U.S. dissolve under those currently in control.

Chinas been around for 5000 years, they can wait. They don’t have 100000+ young people dying from Fentanyl each year, mass shooting every day, extreme racial tension, failed wars, all that stuff that’s goes with a greedy red vs blue democracy.

better be real and to understand reality around you,earlier-better.about real US position, abt Ukraine as well you like to "comment" here...

The actions of the US and NATO allies wrt Ukraine are based on lessons learned from the lead up to WWII and an urgent desire to prevent a repeat. It seems clear in hindsight that if the US had not been isolationist but rather had taken a leadership position alongside the UK and Canada and took action to prevent Hitler from taking Czechoslovakia and Poland WWII could have been prevented. Likewise had the US gone to war against Japan in 1937 after they sank USS Panay on the Yangtze River much bloodshed in Southeast Asia could have been prevented.

Today it is Russia that must be stopped early. The west knows, mainly because Mr. Putin has been clear on the subject for over a decade in his public speeches, that if the Red Army succeeds in taking Ukraine they won't stop there. Next up would be the three Baltic states and Poland, NATO members all. That is the war the US and the NATO allies want to prevent and the way you do that is to stop the Russians from taking Ukraine.

remember Mrs Nuland and her phrase F..k off EU?

You're quoting it wrong but yes I remember a meaningless phone call.

chinese just did that right now.to americans.and without any fear.

So relevant I hadn't heard. China has a lot of trash diplomats that like to mouth off.

wondering why local editor does not want to inform us abt meeting in South Africa.

Because its not relevant. Nothing will be decided and even if it were, it won't be announced until the war criminal arrives.

The talks, which were hosted by South African Foreign Minister Naledi Pandor, also focused on the group’s possible expansion to include the major oil-producing nations of Saudi Arabia, Iran, and the United Arab Emirates.

You don't get to claim success until the ink is dry and your collection of disparate countries all agree.

sure another pain in .ss of uncle Sam.or as you say-pax americana.and its related to this article as well.so nothing like "off topic mark".

Guess we will have to rely on our own energy supplies which are considerable.

I will comment anywhere and anytime I like, thank you. Yours haven't been insightful in the least.

And does not get arrested?

Even China isn't dumb enough to blow up all contact with the US. Plus they would have to trump up a charge.

The meeting on Thursday, which brought together the foreign ministers of Russia, Brazil, India, and South Africa, as well as Chinese Vice Minister of Foreign Affairs Ma Zhaoxu, included discussions on preparations for the 15th BRICS summit, which is scheduled for August 23-24 in Johannesburg.

another sign that hegemon loosing own ground and becoming very desperate...

Talking is not weakness, especially since your life is on the line, Eastman.

China may largely ignore american pressure,"urging" or "recommendation" since they are not in role of US vassal.

They didn't ignore Mr. Burns.

welcome to multipolar world uncle Sam.american century is coming to its end.

China has been a pole for sometime. What hasn't been a pole is dog Russia. Pax Americana continues.

U.S. influence has weakened considerably in the past two years.

Stock market up. Dollar strong. Troops safe.

Nothing wrong with knowing your adversaries and having a full court press to get them to act responsibly.

Consider that children were recently asked to stop singing the National Anthem at the U.S. Capitol by Capitol Police. It is considered a form of "demonstration". China will gladly stay the course

Not only is that a complete load of hooey, it is the opening verses of "March of the Volunteers", China's national anthem, that have become a rallying cry of protesters during recent anti-CCP protests in Chinese cities.

"Stand up! Those who refuse to be slaves!"

Interestingly "March of the Volunteers" was banned by Mao and only re-instated in 1982.

Bunk. That never happened and I've heard "Oh, the US is a declining power" since the 70s.

It was bunk then and its bunk now.
