It has been reported that this is yet another case of multiculturalism gone wrong. Another angry asylum seeker.

Europe doesn't even look like Europe any more from the street people view.

No, it absolutely doesn’t. When I go back to visit family I’m more and more disappointed. Bad times ahead.

6.5% of the EU population are foreigners and 9.4% are born abroad.

Migrant population: 23.8 million non-EU citizens living in the EU on 1 January 2022. On 1 January 2022, 23.8 million citizens of non-member countries were residing in an EU Member State, representing 5.3 % of the EU population.

The figures are not that high.

Dublin has become an extremely dangerous city after dark - and has been so for a decade or two.

The Garda has stated that the stabbing suspect is an Irish citizen.

“We have a complete lunatic hooligan faction driven by far-right ideology, and also then this disruptive tendency engaged in serious violence,” said Ireland’s top police officer, Drew Harris.

The first thing I noticed when arriving in town was the wanted posters for whoever stabbed a guy’s son…that was 2009.

It has been reported that this is yet another case of multiculturalism gone wrong. Another angry asylum seeker.

The focus is on the response not the initial act nor the identity of the perpetrator.

The article states (in JT) absolutely nothing about this.

Yet, it has been reported in the Irish press.

The people in the streets were angry and rightly so.

The labels of this and that group are responsible for the violence etc are quickly bandied about but unbridled migration is one of the causes of the anger.

Politicians all over Europe have made the same mistake and the effect is coming home to rest.

Can't we all just get along?

Algerian migrant.

-7 ( +2 / -9 )

As a Dubliner it is very sad to see this.

And while there are legitimate worries about the amount of immigration especially when there is an accomodation crisis, the reaction of the yobs who decided to riot is even more saddening.

Interestingly they looted a footlocker store which sort of undermines their altruistic motives.

More interested in the latest sports wear more than an immigrant problem.

However this issue is boiling under the surface and won't take much to spark it.

A Slovakian was convicted of a savage murder last week, now a foreigner stabbing it all adds up and there are plenty of people willing to take advantage of this to stir the pot and enliven their miserable lives.

3 ( +4 / -1 )

And it was a Brazilian who stopped the attacker.

Ooh an immigrant.

7 ( +9 / -2 )

guy was from Algeria.

just to update story and you can get possible motives.

sure Irish are angry after slovakian gypsy have killed teacher...so nothing surprises me.

The figures are not that high.

There are areas where foreigners and their offspring are the majority.

How high is too high?

If 10-15% of the population is born in another country that isn't too high.

Each country has its own unique case. Too many illegal migrants getting into the UK. About 750,000 per year.

703,700 non-Irish nationals living in the State, accounting for 13.8% of the total population. That includes 100,000 refugees from Ukraine.

Some people are born in other countries but have the right to live there.

Ireland by race. Ireland has a majority of “White Irish,” as 94.1% of the population.

UK by race. 82% of people in England and Wales are white.

France by race. 85% of French are white.

Germany by race. 86% of Germans are white.

Is that not the net number for legal immigrants?

2 ( +2 / -0 )

You could be right. That was the number given by Sunak the other day. Hundreds of thousands are also leaving.

1 ( +2 / -1 )

This isn't about race.

It's about a bunch of disenchanted delinquents looking for a reason to be delinquents.

Sadly there are plenty like that in Dublin.

Sorry Wallace, I agree with most of what you've been saying, but 'Race' would a very narrow view of what it takes to actually be, say, English Welsh or German- Colour too. What 'Colour' are, for example, Algerians?

Racists use that as a marker to justify ridiculously events such as this one in Dublin-Linking the stabbing of children to immigration concerns. Doesn't really matter to the victims.

Ethnicity is far a more productive way of looking at societies in this day and age.

We quickly cleared the way for the rocky road to Dublin

"White Irish" means the largest of the race groups. There are other Irish, about 6%. Brits are also allowed to live in Ireland without taking citizenship.

My point is that the migrant population is very small.

Major ethnic Irish 94.1%. Minor ethnic Other 2.7%, Asian: 1.1%, black: 1.5%, Irish Travellers 0.6%, 2022

Dozens of arrests have been made in Ireland's capital over violence "not seen in decades," police say. Far-right rioters had attacked officers after a suspected knife attack that injured several.

Right-wing thugs took the opportunity to express their hate, riot, and loot the shops.

1 ( +5 / -4 )

Thugs, you say?

-2 ( +2 / -4 )

And I am not the only one.

"Police said over 400 officers including many in riot gear, were deployed in Dublin city center to contain the unrest, which they said was "caused by a small group of thugs.""

“A group of people, thugs and criminals, are using this attack to wreak havoc,” Justice Minister Helen McEntee said. The head of the Irish police, Garda Commissioner Drew Harris, blamed the unrest on a “lunatic, hooligan faction driven by far-right ideology.”

"Ireland’s Justice Minister Helen McEntee described the protesters as “thugs” and “criminals” who were “using this appalling attack to sow division and wreak havoc in the city.”

Media during the Antifa/BLM rioting and looting for six months straight: “Riot is the voice of the unheard.”

Media when Irish citizens get angry after a migrant stabs multiple white children: "Dangerous right-wing violence!"

I'm not condoning rioting at all.

But (as is the case in Ireland and elsewhere in Europe) when you're told that it's "hate speech" to voice concern over too-high levels of immigration and the crime spikes they cause, even to the point of being threatened with criminal prosecution, is it hardly surprising to see this sort of powder-keg explosion?

Between this and the elections of populist leaders in Italy and the Netherlands, it seems people are starting to say "enough is enough."

0 ( +3 / -3 )

The nationality of the attacker wasn't known but right-wing groups claimed he was a migrant.

A Brazlian-born delivery driver stopped the knife attacker.

There were no BML riots in Ireland or any other country except the US. There the majority of the BLM marches were peaceful.

The authorities called it that.

Another one.

37 out of 150 seats in the Dutch parliament and they start getting excited about a rightwing surge around the planet.

Very excitable. I blame the podcast hosts.

The BLM was about racism in America. Not related to migrants.

What is the biggest immigrant group in Ireland?

"This made up 84% of the population of usual residents. The number of non-Irish citizens increased in 2022, accounting for 12% of the population. The biggest non-Irish groups were Polish and UK citizens followed by Indian, Romanian and Lithuanian."

What is the Irish opposition to illegal migration are you referring to other than the right-wing thugs?

What is the Irish opposition to illegal migration are you referring to other than the right-wing thugs?

In the period spanning twelve months until April 2023, the population saw a notable rise of 97,600 individuals, the largest increase in a year since 2008. Immigrant numbers reached a 16-year high at 141,600, signifying the second consecutive year with over 100,000 people immigrating to Ireland, you don't think that is cause for concern, particularly when so many migrants show unwillingness to learn the language or try and assimilate into the culture? This is partially why you see opposition growing. If the government leaders refuse to deal with the migrant issue, bad things in society start to happen.

The number of undocumented people in Ireland is less than 20,000 or 0.4% of the population.

People from the UK, the EU, and other countries can live in Ireland. There are also returning Irish citizens.

The biggest non-Irish groups were Polish and UK citizens followed by Indian, Romanian, and Lithuanian.

"In 2014, the MRCI estimated that there were between 20,000 and 26,000 undocumented migrant Page 2 2 adults living and working in Ireland. More recently in 2020, the MRCI estimated that there are some 15,000 to 17,000 undocumented persons in the State, including 2,000 to 3,000 children."

Ireland introduced a new scheme for undocumented people to apply for citizenship.

Ireland has about 100,000 Ukrainian refugees and is ready to take more.

you are confusing legal immigration and illegal immigration. In the US you posted you support legal immigration but not illegal immigration.

That is still significant.

Seems like they disagree with the influx overall.

you are confusing legal immigration and illegal immigration.

No, I never said anything about illegals.

In the US you posted you support legal immigration but not illegal immigration.

That is right, but my country is bigger so we can accommodate more people and I want to be clear, in the legal sense, not at the rate we are going now taking in millions of unskilled illegals, the right is not gaining traction because it wants to, the people are sick and tired of their leaders not listening to them and when a strongman comes forward, a person that wants to put their country first before migrants have docked a racist, the more the left stays resistant to changing and talking about the migrant status quo policies, the right will continue to gain more power.

You seem to know very little about the legal immigrants. Ireland is part of the EU and has arrangements with other countries.

you posted

" particularly when so many migrants show unwillingness to learn the language or try and assimilate into the culture?"

You don't know about the immigrants.

The 2 million people living in Northern Ireland can also become Irish citizens.

94% of the population are Irish.

-1 ( +0 / -1 )

You seem to know very little about the legal immigrants.

I know quite a lot actually.

Ireland is part of the EU and has arrangements with other countries.

So in other words, shut up and take it....hmmm, that's slowly not working anymore.

You don't know about the immigrants.

I do

The 2 million people living in Northern Ireland can also become Irish citizens.

And a growing segment of the country doesn't want that.

94% of the population are Irish.

It seems they want to keep it at that, I don't blame them.

This isn't about race. It's about a bunch of disenchanted delinquents looking for a reason to be delinquents. Sadly there are plenty like that in Dublin.

And plenty in other places too (thinking of recent chaos from young thugs in Dundee). I agree it's probably not so much about race as about disenchanted youth. We should probably ask why we seem to have an increasing number of such delinquents in the "developed" world.
