To endure what these women have is truly heroic. That neighbour who helped them is a hero, too (and he'd only been in the neighbourhood for a year). This is why it's important to have a sense of community and to take part in what goes on around your neighbourhood. The police really dropped the ball from what initial investigations state 10 years ago, too. Some neighbours that spoke with the BBC said they felt calling the police over some the strange things they'd seen at the house over the years was pointless.

Happy for the family, but this really is a strange way to describe his sister
“She’s like my best friend. I’m glad she’s home,” Ricardo DeJesus, brother of Gina DeJesus, told CNN, adding that before her disappearance, his sister “liked to dance a lot, crack jokes, be around with her family
This incident (s?)Once again shows just how crazy some of our fellow humans are

Yes some are "crazy" but fortunately they are a ver small minority.

@ Wakarimasen, I dunno if his description was so strange - those things he described were just of your typical 14-year-old girl. This is an amazing story, it makes one wonder how many other girls/women are currently being held captive worldwide - some maybe under our noses. And kudos to the unlikely looking hero, Charles Ramsay. You can keep your Chuck Norrises and Dirty Harrys - Mr. Ramsay is the real deal! Legend.

Thank you Charles Ramsey for hearing Amanda's cries and responding immediately. She sent Ariel out to get some food for her daughter, and knew she only had a small window of time to get help. I hope we all respond as swiftly as Mr. Ramsey if we are ever in a situation that warrants us to help a fellow human being.

Incredible story. Great they were freed. But where are the usual posters of this board that always pop up to explain only Japanese neighbors let stuff happen while in America everybody takes care about next doors ? Apparently, they had one Ramsey that came to help, and thousands of people that were nearby not seeing nor hearing in years.

@ cos - good point. It is sadly not just Japan where a "sense of community" - where neighbours look out for one another - has become a thing of the past. This event could sadly happen in any "modern" city where neighbours don't even know each others names these days. For every good guy like a Ramsey or Tanaka - there are 10 who choose to look the other way, or not hear calls for help.

That these women were found alive and relatively unharmed (physically) is amazingly good news, especially for the family, and kudos to the neighbour for helping out. That they were kept so long locked up and away from loved ones is sickening. I hope these guys see some SERIOUS jail time -- get a sense of how it feels to be locked up and abused.

Kidnapping is federal crime, News channels in USA has been stating that Cleveland Police are being investigated.
Fadamor
They're only "being investigated" by legal analyst talking heads who want to create controversy so they can get paid more bucks to talk to CNN anchors on the air. One girl who said they called the cops after something suspicious happened at the house and the cops didn't do anything was contradicted by her sister who said, "No, we called our mom, not the cops." The mom has said she didn't know what to do, so she did nothing.

Good Job AFP! Every other news organization reported it as a Puerto Rican flag, so you must have a SCOOP!

There will be more report over here about how this house is investigated in past but police did not enter the house, etc. CNN is not only news channels in USA. FBI released info on how it will investigate.
toshiko
CNN does not bribe FBI. Reporters all over from USA swamped there, CBS, ABC, NBC, even PBS. This is not first time Cleveland police goofed on kidnap case.

There will be report about family of main suspect. A journalist son in UK, A daughter, etc. After neighbors said, the chieff suspect bought plenty big Mac everyday, Big Mac commented, "No Comment".
