Not to worry: Trump said he wants 'a great climate'. https://edition.cnn.com/videos/politics/2018/11/18/california-wildfires-president-trump-climate-change-sot-vpx.cnn
With Trump, a champion of big oil and its partner big war, running the country, with US Senate and House members beholden to both big oil and big war, with Russia dependent on selling oil and gas, with China and India requiring more oil and gas to power their economies, with the wealth of the global .01% based on economies run on oil and gas,
expect climate change problems to get even worse.
Gens X, Y and Z, at least those in countries with a semblance of democracy left, will have to get more actively involved in politics to challenge the existing aging powers who only care about this quarter's profits.
Insane Wayne
I MY opinion this figure is far too low because it doesn't include Hollywood which doesn't do ANY global warming studies before filming. It is a massive polluter and wastes huge amounts of natural resources. Also the fledgling pot industry has escaped scrutiny. That creates intense heat and wastes incredible amounts of water.

Republicans can get on board or they can get out of the way. America and the world aren't going to wait for them to come to grips with a problem this size. If they continue to deny, deflect, and stonewall, they will become irrelevant even faster than they already are.
I get so angry when people say "Democrats and Republicans are the same!" No they're not: Obama signed the Paris Accord, and Trump tore it up. THESE THINGS MATTER.

The term "conservative" has been turned on its head, and Trump is the phenomenon's climax. He has never cared about others or the future. He simply wants to get all he can , now, and all else be damned.

Well, that's if your policymakers aren't imbeciles...we have the Great Orange Idiot who dismisses everything, with the exception of porn stars and Playboy Bunnies.
Given as singed as he is, the amount of electricity used for his tanning bed must be contributing to at least half of all global emissions...
David Varnes
Of course Cadet Bonespurs dismissed last year's report, like he'll dismiss this one.
Frankly, someone should send the White House a fiddle, he can play it while California burns.
It'd be appropriate for him.
bass4funk
You guys really get worked up over this climate change thing. Wow!
Goodlucktoyou
Rich people will be living on Mars and taking holidays on the moon. Why would they care about global warming?
Strangerland
Um, yeah. Duh.

Some of us have children and grandchildren who'll inherit this mess, a mess that the generations in charge have known needed cleaning up for decades.
Some of us don't want our children and grandchildren to have to deal with the extremes of the messes scientists - excluding those in the pay of big oil and gas and Russia - have long warned about.
I agree with those who say the economy needs to be strong, and agree more with those who see the negative externalities of an unfettered, fossil fuel based economy, i.e. the global economy pushed by Trump and his fellow global elite .01%.
Climate change is NOT a Chinese hoax.
Serrano
Heck, climate change could cost millions or billions of people the land they're on if the sea level rises too much if Mother Nature so decides. Better start building arks.
Jimizo
People dying and rendered homeless can have that effect.
plasticmonkey
As a "conservative", I would think you'd be concerned about conserving (i.e. protecting) the only planet we have, and also about conserving a future for your offspring. I've always thought that true conservatism is thinking long term. I've also thought that true conservatism is rather being safe than sorry, to err on the side of caution, and to trust the people who have established a reputation of expertise and well-grounded evidence.
Am I wrong?
Jimizo
To be fair, most conservatives around the world see this.
Idiotic ideas like climate change being a hoax perpetrated by the Chinese seems to be part of the creed of one of the most mindless groups of people around - the US right.
nandakandamanda
The whole solar system seems to be heating up, so the only question for us humans is can we mitigate it on earth to some degree?

An article full of untruths makes no mention that China and India put so called greenhouse gases into the atmosphere than America does.
Had to start laughing at this Sea levels haven't risen one inch, where's the data to prove this sea level rise.
Jimizo
Are you saying greenhouse gases don’t exist?
Please explain this, or if you don’t have the expertise in this particular area, please post a link explaining this.
Alternatively, you could just post the whole thing is a hoax perpetrated by the Chinese.

bass4funk: "You guys really get worked up over this climate change thing. Wow!"
Imagine caring for Something beyond your deluded president, whom you yourself called a lunatic until he won the Republican ticket.
bass4funk
Ok and?
So the millions of people with cars and machinery that need oil, we should drop just like that? No one is going to do that at least not anytime soon.
What?
I worry more about confused Democrats.
Jimizo
That is an understandable reaction. I know it’s hard to believe. There is this bonehead conspiracy theorist politician in the US who said climate change is a hoax orchestrated by the Chinese. This clown has a long history of following trash conspiracy theories.
Honestly, it’s true. Smh.
Blacklabel
“by century's end?”
how do they even know that dollars will exist or that it will be 100 billion dollars or that 100 billion dollars isn’t equal to one dollar in today’s money? Pure speculation.
Raw Beer
Climate change is a very serious matter. The expected global cooling will cost us dearly.
Chip Star
This is decidedly not how the calculation works. It stretches the bounds of reasonability that anyone would attempt to obfuscate in such an obviously dishonest manner.
It is pointless attempting to engage such people. Spend your energy doing something positive.
albaleo
I'm not sure of the original poster's meaning, but "so called" is sometimes used by scientists too in relation to greenhouse gases. It's not that they don't exist, rather that their action is not exactly the same as a greenhouse.
It's not hard to find data. (Interpreting it may be more difficult.)

No proof of causation, only correlation.
lostrune2
Lol, the White House is trying to bury the report by moving up the initially planned release date and instead releasing it the day after Thanksgiving, Black Friday - one of the worst days of the year for reaching a news audience, when everybody is busy looking for incredible deals, instead of paying attention to current events
What if proof of causation is proven later, but it's too late to do anything by then, when earlier they could've done something about it
That's the scenario everyone dreads
It's like someone's dementia getting diagnosed, when it's already too late to treat it, when he could've eaten healthier and lived an exercise lifestyle to possibly avoid it, if he knew he was predisposed to the disease
David Varnes
At this time no definite cause has been ascertained, but at this time the biggest suspected cause is a spark from nearby electric lines (the fire started under high tension power lines), combined with the low humidity and high winds in the area fanned the flames into the fire.
The only 'human error' was possibly the corporate error by PG&E, and the human error of screwing up the climate.
Jimizo
Some very incisive posts here.
Does anyone have any evidence backing up Rump’s claim that climate change is a hoax orchestrated by the Chinese?
mukashiyokatta
Trump administration's solution? -- drill, drill, drill. Couldn't be more misguided. Ouster needed quickly.
bass4funk
I wasn’t talking about the Chinese. California is full of radicals.
jcapan
Some pot-kettle glory right there folks
Jimizo
What do you think of the bonehead politician who said climate change is a hoax orchestrated by the Chinese?
Your “what?” was absolutely spot on. I had that reaction to it along with his other conspiracy trash.
bass4funk
I think he was trolling thr boneheaded media knowing that they’ll swallow anything the President says face value. Lol
Thank you, as always.
Jimizo
Oh, he’s being a troll. I don’t remember you saying that at the time.
Was the trash conspiracy nonsense of birtherism also Trump trolling?
Trump seems to be a troll.
HonestDictator
They think they will, when actually scientists have proven that that is exactly where they'll die. Human beings need earth level gravity specifically to stay healthy. We're evolved to live on this planet, not other places. The first thing that is needed to live on mars is earth level gravity, atmosphere, and water. Mars is covered in rust, so water could be pretty toxic unless there is a way to make it the right pH balance. The moon has no atmosphere, and no gravity.
Think of it this way Bass. Imagine not having any water to drink, food to eat, or air to breathe. You, me and everyone else on this planet will be DEAD. And not just that, any plants or animals human beings need will also be DEAD. No bee's or insects to pollinate the plants, no plants to feed the cattle, no plants and animals that people like to feed themselves with. So what awaits the ignorant is starvation, thirst, and suffocation... oh, and WAR, lots of WAR. We'll all be fighting over whatever resources are left to survive...
Even those that think money is more important than the environment will suffer from their arrogance, because money can't buy what I mentioned above to salvage human existence. We'll just have to move aside for some other new sets of species that may evolve on this planet.
bass4funk
The earth has been here for a few billion years, survived the dinosaurs, wars, the Black Death, meteor hits, two nukes and I’m sure the planet will survive this as well. She’s one tough old bag.
SuperLib
As George Carlin would say, the planet isn't going anywhere. It's the humans who have to worry.
Serrano
Eventually Mother Nature is gonna grace us with another Ice Age. Maybe if we burn more fossil fuels, we can slow it down, lol.
HonestDictator
Oh, the planet itself will be fine. It will always be fine until the sun dies. As for humanity's ability to exist on this planet in a LIVABLE environment is a completely different matter. You can't live in a house that is on fire.
HonestDictator
Either way it will impact human survival. Too cold, no crops, no pollinators. So try an use greenhouses? Limited production of crops and feed for cattle and human consumption. Fishing? The seas are already being overfished and there will be mass extinction. Wars will start over resources again because the human population will be too large for effective production (not like it isn't already apparently). I think LOOONG term effects and connect the dots to future problems caused by these kinds of situations.
lostrune2
Climate always changes. What people don't want is for climate to change too fast - faster than people could adapt - economically, behaviorally, materially, technologically, etc.
That's how ya guarantee disasters like famine or floods, wars for resources, mass calamities, etc.
