It would be good if he could go to the US to study-study why China had to enforce the one policy rule, and how Chinese were/are such loving people, and yet they did what was good for the whole community. How that was against the nature of the Chinese and China suffered for it. He could study in AMerica how, in America it wasnt enforced, but the people despite all their wealth and wonderful lifestyle naturally tend towards unloving unproduucing lifestyles. Maybe he could help the Americans realize what family orientated type people Chinese are, and cause the Americans to realize about themselves too; teach that to them.

I pity the taxpayers of america! The spending of the rest of his life will became a burden on shoulder!

whats with all this money tax talk regarding this? He will pay taxes if he is working there right. Maybe he should hook onto one of those sport sponsors! I pity anyone who counts everybody elses penny's-maybe he'd be able to pay for you in the end too.

In addition to that I may add that rich Chinese all want to get out China to Australia,New Zealand, Europe, US and Japan once the money is stashed in the bank. Or their sons or daughters are already living abroad as students. . In Chinese dictionary, there is no word of human rights. Shameful country!

I don't know about that, but tied to 'human rights' is the principle of 'human duties', both of which are interpreted differently in China and in countries considered 'free democratic'. This country may need more time to come to terms with its long history under the rule of powerful dynasties, recent communism and more recent venture into capitalism. For a country to change so fast in such a short time is probably unprecedented. Comparison with western countries would be meaningless. I say this without taking sides or stating an opinion or intent to provoke or criticize. China's concession to Chen is a step forward. I hope China will continue to progress in communicating and dialog with the rest of the world which would foster a better understanding and work to improve not only relations but the lives of the Chinese people, especially those who have been left in a political and social vacuum.

I do not see it as a concession at all. All China said "he has the right to apply for the visa", nothing about giving back his and his families passports or even approving the application. Then he can be prevented to fly out or cross the border. The people on this board are too naive. The peoples Republic of China is full of tricks!
