President Donald Trump's attacks on the media must stop or there's a risk someone will get hurt.

It's already happening. Journalists attacked in the US: https://pressfreedomtracker.us/physical-attack/

Worldwide so far in 2018 45 journalists have been killed. https://cpj.org/data/killed/2018/?status=Killed&motiveConfirmed%5B%5D=Confirmed&type%5B%5D=Journalist&start_year=2018&end_year=2018&group_by=location

At each of Trump's beer hall rallies he attacks the media. At one of his last ones he mimed attacking one, aping an actual instance when a fellow Republican politician, one of his followers, attacked a journalist. And his followers cheered him on.

20th century despots attacked the media until they could control it.

21st century dictators (e.g. Putin, Erdogan, etal) continue that ugliness.

I thought the U.S. media was all about free speech.  The press only promotes free speech when it is in their best interests to do so. I guess CNN and any other "News" outlet can say whatever they want and "We the Sheeple" are just supposed to drink it up.  It is about time that someone steps up to the media and attempts to hold them accountable for their biased misinformation campaigns. Note, I don't agree with a lot of what President Trump says and I definitely don't like most of his tactics, but I do think the media had this coming.  Karma at its best.

I call on Acosta to stop being a moron.

@serrano I call on Acosta to stop being a moron.

Acosta is an employee of a free, for-profit media corporation. Free people can call him whatever they want, as long as it's not slanderous or libelous. Free people can choose to read him or ignore him.

What's worrying is when a nation's leader attacks people like Acosta and others in the media that don't report things the way he wants, and then the leader's followers parrot the attack.

A free press is essential to a properly functioning democracy. Only those favoring authoritarian states oppose a free press.

By attacking the free press Trump wants to make America more like those countries he admires, such as Russia, China, North Korea, Turkey, Saudi Arabia etc, which have weak or no genuine media capable of performing that essential role. What he calls 'fake news' is simply news.

If the media actually reported news events from an unbiased perspective rather than attempting to persuade people to believe in their agenda, the USA would not be nearly as divided as we are. I am not pointing the finger solely at Acosta or CNN...Fox, MSNBC; they all do it. Perhaps I've become more skeptical as I age, but I personally believe only a small percentage of news provided by media outlets. I prefer to read or listen to the news from multiple sources, assume that they are all written from a biased perspective, and assume that the truth is somewhere in the middle.

The problem as I see it, is that the press has never been held accountable for misinformation. President Trump is challenging them. So some of you may say that Trump is laughable for calling them fake news, but surely you don't believe everything the media tells you, do you?  The press should be free, but the press should publish unbiased information and perhaps even fact-check stories before releasing them. The media should be held accountable. Look at what we just went through with the Supreme Court nominee. His reputation and life were nearly ruined by a story publicized by the media. An FBI investigation determined that the allegations were false. The media should be held accountable for publishing false information. I believe someone above called the issue "slanderous or libelous."

"What's worrying is when a nation's leader attacks people like Acosta"

Oh good grief, you've got it back asswards, Trump is having to DEFEND himself from the likes of Acosta on a daily basis. A LOT of Americans are sick of CNN's BS, which explains why CNN's ratings suck, especially compared to the #1 cable news network Fox.

Yeah conveniently this article doesn’t quote the numerous political attacks the supposedly impartial Acosta made. He said much much more than what is here.

Also CNN should not publish false and fabricated faked story too. The media credibility has been damaged by publishing false and fabricated faked story by major media corporations around the world.

I'm bored with CNN all they ever do is sit a group of people who ague how bad things are under Trump. When Trump goes, CNN will probably be at a loss for what to do.

CNN White House correspondent Jim Acosta, whose network is a frequent target of President Donald Trump's "fake news" barbs, called on him Monday to stop attacking the media because he's afraid someone will get hurt.

Jim Acosta repeatedly promotes his own bias against Trump, and the Republican Party. Acosta is upset that his victims are fighting back. Acosta is in charge of his own actions (unless his willingness to attack conservatives is why CNN hired him). Acosta should take his own advice - "The rhetoric has to stop".

Verbal insults between government officials and the media is one thing

But advocating physical attacks is another level

Keep it to insults, not physical - keep hands-off, law-and-order
