Just proves the saying, "dope is for dopes".

There are going to be a LOT of DUIs today. 420 "fair" is going on today in my city and local law enforcement has beefed up observance for many reasons. So are we going to have designated drivers? They're not supposed to toke in public, but many of them don't have the brains to pay attention to the laws. Might even have gone as far as no public consumption which would include ingesting cookies/brownies/teas or what have you. Pro-pot folks still don't get it. And you will reap what you sow. Thanks again for ensuring my job security :D.

Liberals love to bleat about how "no one has ever died" as a result of being under the influence of marijuana.

Strawman. I don't think anyone has ever claimed that. You need to re-check the wording of what has been 'bleated'.

@ RR, not only that, but people that don't want to hear what they don't want to believe in no matter how many facts point opposite of what they want to believe. I'm just sitting back and watching the damage. Old saying is, "Wisdom is wasted when spoken to fools."

How much does anything else kill people in a given year?

0 ( +0 / -0 )

This is a serious issue since with smoking you can control your exposure to this chemical. With eating (ingesting) this is not the case ==> =anyone that ate 6 of those THC brownies would be in trouble. Colorado will need to do something about this.

Tetrahydrocannabinolic acid (THCA, 2-COOH-THC), is a biosynthetic precursor of tetrahydrocannabinol (THC), the active component of Cannabis.[1][2][3][4] THCA is found in variable quantities in fresh, undried cannabis, but is progressively decarboxylated to THC with drying, and especially under intense heating such as when cannabis is smoked.[5] While THCA does not have psychoactive effects in its own right, it does have antiinflammatory and neuroprotective effects.[6][7] Despite the ready decarboxylation by drying or heating ex vivo, conversion of THCA to THC in vivo appears to be very limited, giving it only very slight efficacy as a prodrug for THC.[8] Consequently it is believed to be important in less-psychoactive preparations of cannabis used for medical use, such as cannabis tea.[9]

THCA - natural form that has many benefits. THC- heated/dried THCA that is now psychoactive. (need to be more careful)

I wonder if these marijuana candies etc..may have been laced with other drugs?? All you need is one idiot to lace these candies with a bit of PCP etc...anyway, maybe these folk in Colorado should stick to good old fashioned BONGS!!! That is what Dr.Dave says for you all!

How does it compare to gun deaths?

0 ( +1 / -1 )

"It isn't a "deadly narcotic". It is a beneficial herb humans have cultivated for thousands of years.

And, schedule 1 drugs are supposed to be those without any medical use. Cannabis has been proven to have many, many medical uses. It is obviously a schedule 1 drug for political reasons.

Also, if you were more familiar with the subject, Romeo, you would know that both liberals and conservatives alike use cannabis and favor it's legalization."

Liberals love to bleat about how "no one has ever died" as a result of being under the influence of marijuana. Please be sure to comfort the survivors of these two incidents by telling them that.

This is the reason why it is on the Class 1 Controlled Substance list. It is a deadly narcotic.

Mentally unstable to begin with, cant blame the pot, it'd be like blaming a gun when some one gets shot.

A "significant contributing factor" equals maybe it was, maybe it wasn't, I don't really know. And in the other case seems we're not even sure if the guy took the pot candy or not. Although, the author doesn't mind making that assumption in order to do a little fear mongering about pot.

Pure anti-pot propaganda. I really think these kind of "reefer madness" type articles are on the increase as of late, 'cause the times, they are a changing, and that makes a lot of people nervous.

Triumvere, thanks for the nice link; brings back memories. LOL

Simply put, THC is a DRUG. Too much of ANY drug will cause serious problems. But that's ok, pharmacology doesn't know what its talking about especially in regards to certain narcotic chemicals...(sarcasm)

"It's pretty clear marijuana is not even comparable to alcohol in the short or long term for damage to the body." Where is this?

Very controversial reports monthly. A glass of wine a day is recommended. A dube a day is note. Ingested may be okay. We don't have un-objective evidence of this.

OMG, no more pot noodles for me.

@ Joeintokyo- BAM! I am for and have been for decriminalization for a long time. Am not against it. Don't want anything to do with it. Have no sympathy for those who choose to abuse it.

We will need to see the ultimate outcome here. With Obama saying it's not harmful and further consideration from other states. What health effects does marijuana have both short and long term. We have very conflicting data and no reliable decades long studies.

Prohibition clearly did not work, but it does not follow that legalization will be a panacea; these sorts of incidents are inevitable, and will continue. We can only hope that experience will help both regulators and users minimize the more harmful aspects of legal cannabis use.

On a lighter note, the first thing I though of when I read this was Louis CK's (hilarious) monologue on getting high with 20 year-olds a parking lot. "Badd Company hits," indeed. For anyone who is interested: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wMp7H3hZjsU

Isn't this what they asked for? To expect responsible drug use is like asking a drunk not to over do it.
