I'm sensing this story is just an attempt to stir up pot prohibition frenzy. Educated people should be able to recognize this as apocrypha of little consequence.

Agree Sci

But the stuff these days is a lot stronger than 20 years ago, so I've heard.

Last month, 22-year-old Luke Gregory Goodman shot himself to death in a Colorado ski resort town

How many times did he have to shoot himself?

'But the stuff these days is a lot stronger than 20 years ago, so I've heard.'

That's true. I tried some pot a few years ago when I was in the UK and it turned me into a slobbering, gibbering idiot. It was much stronger than the stuff I remember at university which gave me the giggles. I've heard some say that certain types of pot should be reclassified.

...the recommended amount of marijuana cookies....

We live in a wonderful, brave new world, what with recommended amounts of marijuana cookies and all.

The headline could equally be, "Woman charged with Witness Tampering" since that is all they have charged her with.

The son jumping out of the window part suggests he already had an underlying problem.

Had alcohol been involved instead of pot, it would have been such a routine story that they probably wouldn't even bother to print it.

Talk about fear mongering. Unless that brownie was laced with something asides from pot, I can't believe that it was entirely responsible for him doing this. Sounds like he must have had a screw loose to begin with. I understand that 19 is still considered a "teenager", but they are spinning this to make it sound like she gave drugs to a young child who had no idea how to cope with them. If this happened in Canada he would have been considered an adult.

The link to pot legalization is ridiculous. Tragic though it is, if that angle wasn't a cheap hook for sloppy journalism this would be a local story and we wouldn't be reading about it here on JT, just like we don't read about every single DUI/DWI death in the US. Mostly this is just for people to read, make their trembling inferences and say, "Oh my goodness gracious! I TOLD you this would happen if those dirty hippies got their way and there you have it! The cost of inequity!"

Pot doesn't make someone jump from a window or even hardly leave the sofa.

I call it BS...

While I believe pot and all other drugs should be decriminalized, what a lot of you are saying is correct in regards to the bubonic chronic, hydroponic weed.

I don't see the enjoyment from smoking something that makes you sweaty and paranoid and I'm SURE when coupled with mental illness that it can cause people to do crazy things - like attempting flight.

isnt 19 adult?

From the article, just after his age;

Colorado voters in 2012 sanctioned recreational use of marijuana, but only for those aged 21 and older.

Wonder if she wants to adopt ?

I say, to begin with, the mother is a screwball. She clearly should not have given her son any mind altering drugs, especially, when her son obviously has an, underling, death wish. It's all too common to digest drugs before committing suicide. Pot is a lubricant not the spark.

What a stupid mother, no idea how can have a child.

it turned me into a slobbering, gibbering idiot

Or, asI like to call it, A Good Night Out.

Heh, bugle makes me gibber more than that :)

The lesson to be learned here is, don't eat it.

All of these stories are about people who ate a bunch of cannabis and then apparently went mental. I haven't seen one report about anyone going wild after a couple of bong hits.

Absolutely every time I have seen someone have a really bad experience with cannabis, it involved brownies, cookies or some other edible concoction. You can eat too much, too fast and the effects last a lot longer and are way different than if you smoke it.

There's a reason it's called dope... ;)

British News Service. 'nuff said.

Usually the World News section doesn't get many hits here but say "pot" or "marijuana" and ex-pats get excited.

Is it freely available in Japan like in Europe and the US?

The effect should have been for him to have sat on the sofa and to have chilled out....surely?

It still painful to keep reading the propaganda related to Cannabis. It's like the glass full or the glass empty. Drug companies are very hard at work... discrediting the single natural plant that have hundreds or more of positive uses. Of course nature is a complex organism and every abuse and lack of knowledge have consequences, as everything : http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_poisonous_plants . Someone that have serious mental problems can be exacerbate by everything. Anything can be a trigger. Let's read some good news and true news : 700 and plus Cannabis Studies around the world / Compilation ( since this compilation dozen or more international official studies have be additionally performed : PDF document -->>>> http://marijuanacourses.com/700-cannabis-studies-2012.pdf Follow the propaganda / money : Anti-Cannabis Academics Funded by Prescription Painkiller Manufacturers By Sara Dilley — 9/8/2014 Legalization opponents have turned to academic researchers in an effort to keep prohibition alive. If you’ve tuned into the news recently, you’ve probably heard academics make vague claims that marijuana is too dangerous, too risky, and too untested; that it’s unsafe for medicinal use. You may (or may not) be surprised to learn that many of those key researchers are actually paid by Big Pharma.

This week, VICE proved that the leading academic opponents to cannabis are paid by drug companies who manufacture prescription painkillers. These include professors from Columbia and Harvard Universities, as well as one private practitioner who is certified by the American Society of Addiction Medicine.

Dr. Herbert Kleber of Columbia University has warned against the use of marijuana in the press, citing that it may cause “wide-ranging addiction and public health issues.” What he neglects to mention is that he has served as a paid consultant to leading prescription drug companies, including the maker of OxyContin (Purdue Pharma).

Dr. A. Eden Evins of Harvard Medical School is another anti-cannabis academic with ties to Big Pharma. A member of Project SAM, an anti-marijuana advocacy group, she is also a “consultant for Pfizer and DLA Piper, and has received grant/research support from Envivo, GlaxoSmithKline, and Pfizer.”

This news confirms beliefs long-held by cannabis activists who suspected painkiller manufacturers of financially supporting anti-cannabis legislation, and it’s no surprise. Cannabis is known to effectively treat chronic pain without the dangerous side effects of opiates, as demonstrated by the 25% decrease in painkiller overdoses in states with medical cannabis access. Drug companies have released chemicals drugs that killed ( and still kill), millions of people, and we still believe that a plant that have been successfully used for thousands of years is more dangerous ? http://www.marijuanadoctors.com/content/ailments/index MORE:

Posted by Google Plus icon Fuzzie Jenkins on 03/12/2013 in Medical Marijuana Studies

Drug overdose deaths increased for the 11th straight year, federal data shows. Despite growing attention to the risks of prescription pill medicines, most accidents involved the ingestion and overdoes of these pain relievers. A report by the Journal of the American Medical Association reported that pharmaceuticals, especially opioid analgesics, have driven this increase.

In 2010, the CDC reported that there were 38,329 drug overdose deaths nationwide. Medicines, mostly prescription drugs were involved in nearly 60 % of overdose deaths in that year. Opioid drugs such as OxyContin and Vicodin contributed to 3 of the 4 medication overdose fatalities. Anti-anxiety drugs like Valium were another common cause of medication-related deaths, among 17% were suicides."
