One less mindless killing, at least.

Legally speaking Holmes was sane, realistically speaking Holmes was mad as a hatter.

Fear not; someone will get him in prison....especially if he killed any KIDS.

2 ( +3 / -1 )

He deserves the death penalty no doubt.

Keep him in solitary the rest of his life. Then he'll know true insanity. That's a much harsher punishment than killing him.

I would let a jury comprised of relatives of all those he killed ..to decide his fate...life in jail or death sentence. And whatever THEY decide by consensus vote...will be real justice. AGREE?

No. The same logic would justify the burning to death of women in India who commit adultery because they had stained their families' honor. Surely it's a fundamental principle of any civilized society that we give up any right to revenge. In return we expect safety and security when we go about our lives. The anger and grief of the victims' families in this case is understandable. But to let them exercise revenge would be unthinkable.

Totally DISAGREE. An eye for an eye leaves us all blind.

The Charleston relatives are moral giants:

"Everyone's plea for your soul is proof that they lived in love and their legacies will live in love. So hate won't win", a relative of one victim told the suspect

No, for the reasons the above two posters gave.

So he gets the slow puncture death penalty at the expense of the taxpayer and the squeamish get to feel good about locking an insane man in a cage for at least half a century. The poor man would be better off euthanized.

@Madverts, you make some thoughtful comments.

The poor man would be better off euthanized.

Perhaps, but should we care about the poor man's situation?

I'd hate to have a dog put down, but if that dog went berserk and killed people.....

Locking an insane man in a cage for his eternity and experimenting drugs on him by force is what some people deem "humane".

I am not one of those people.

Sane or Insane? He will have plenty of time to think on the evil he has committed.

I bet he won't last one week in gen pop.
