Many Iranian women are quite stunning. It is a shame to cover them up, if that isn't their wish.
To my eyes, about 80% of the Iranian women at the World Cup weren't wearing any head coverings. The Clerics in Iran are out of touch.

I would say it is more of a case of 1. the complete rejection of western values 2. the enforcement of a patriarchal society and 3. a means of social control by the mullahs, kind of if they can make women wear the hijab then society will do anything else they demand. The clerics know full well what people want but for complex reasons refuse to allow any of it.
